Yes, on this planet. Do we really do the right thing implementing Earth-like- conditions for life on the rest of the Universe?
Could it be that we will miss a lot of relevant information while searching for "things" that resemble what we recognize from Earth- life?

Will we even know that we've encountered ET life when we finally "find it"?

I think todays science is crippled by this...following of the Paradigm that defines how Earth life is. Seriously crippled and naive.

I agree. All earth life that we have discovered needs water but there's no good reason why other chemical systems of life aren't possible.
