I heard it is the worst storm ever because of the insane costs. Something like 25 to 26 billion dollars... of course you can't put a price on those people suffering... Hell... I'm sitting here with hot coffee, sitting on the computer with you guys, watching the news and I'm thinking "Dang... do I have it good right now. hmm.gif"
BurnSide
The death toll right now stands at 70. But most areas haven't even been searched.

Everything in it's path has been flatterned.
So sad. So powerful.

I have a feeling my aunt & uncle's house has been decimated......they're dreading going back.....can't blame them..... sad.gif
BurnSide
People are being urged NOT to go back.
Power being restored is 6-8 weeks away. There is nothing in the affected areas to return for.

20,000 people will be left homeless.

I think they're going to stay with my mom in MO for a little while....they live in Ocean Springs...my cousin has/had an apartment near the beach in Biloxi.....

What i find AWFUL is the scam of the insurance companies here.
Alot of people have Hurricane insurance, but that does NOT cover floods. 1 in 5 people have flood coverage.
Firien
I cant imagine what people are going through, losing everything..and having to stay away for who knows how long. right before everyone starts school too.
Michelle
A lot of ours friends have lost almost everything. Chattanooga is lucky, we only have tree braches laying all over the yard and thousands of people were without electricity yesterday.

It will be like last summer when we had people staying in campers in parking lots all over town until they can get back home. The good thing is hotels and most places give them a huge break in price and accomodate pets when normally they don't.

You know, after last hurricane season, Allstate refused to write any new homeowner policies in FL.

Lila, have you heard from your cousin yet? hmm.gif

Juts goes to show how truly powerless humanity is against nature. And we are worried about recycling tin cans... pshh
BurnSide
You can really see the nature of humanity in a crisis like this.
The majority of people are wondering around breaking into clothing stores to steal several expensive pairs of sneakers and sports jackets.

Thank goodness. I was hearing awful things about where he was.

thats terrible. While watching the news earlier i was stuck with a lingering question that needs answerd. I know this may sound silly but since hurricanes have either male or female names, How do they determine weather its a boy or girl? And also who names them?
Nadia Blue
I don't know. They start out with a list at the beginning of hurricane season. Who makes the list, I don't know. When the storms become tropical depressions, then they get named. It goes by the alphabet. First storm starts with "A", second "B", etc.

No, what really happens is the people at the National Hurricane Center name them after their ex's. Since there is now more gender equlity with women in the working as weather forecasters there too you get some male names mixed in the bunch.

To me its just a sign that Nature is still the dominant force on the planet, not humans.

I heard about this crying.gif and it's one of many storms (though this one was the worst) all occuring at th same time. There was 100km winds in Melbourne which killed a girl, flooding in Asia, flooding in Tasmania, all in the same week.

I just found out one of two friends didn't make it. crying.gif I can't stand it! All the insanity the chaos, people looting, And beating and raping. I just really wanna hit something.

It's enough to drive one crazy! wacko.gif

Or maybe it is kharma?

I was watching the news yesterday evening. There was a lady holding her maybe 2 year old baby. She was crying and saying she hadn't had any water since the storm. She said "My baby's so hot. I can't even wake him up anymore." He was just lying there in her arms, gasping for breath. That baby is probably dead today.

I can't watch the news anymore.

Louisiana was not the only State hit by hurricane Katrina. Mississippi and Alabama were also hit hard.
Raptor
I heard theres as many as 6 more tropical storms coming before the end of the hurricane season, 3 of them could develop into powerful hurricanes. sad.gif

I remember when he was slammed by you same people when he showed up at the devastation from Hurricane Ivan in Florida...too soon. You people then said, 'That idiot...doesn't he know he is hampering relief efforts by getting in the way?! The rescuers now have to take time off to guard his stupid ass.'

How can you go through life so full of hate? I personally thought and still think that President Clinton was a reprobate...but I didn't 'hate' him. I disagreed with practically every policy decision he ever made....but I never 'hated' him. Even when he burned up 78 children in Waco, Tx I didn't 'hate' him. You just have to all get passed your hate...I just don't understand 'hate'. There is nothing that causes more stress on the heart than 'hate'. Get over it.

Funny how everything always comes round to religion or politics doesn't it ... always everyone has the same old axes to grind ... it's either the 'end of days' (dear lord...) or we have to get in a crack about an ex-president...

And that has to do with anything ....?

How long will it be until the conspiracies start floating around ... it was done deliberately by the NWO... etc... etc .....

That's just a prediction based on the current level of activity - nothing to suggest any of them will hit the US mainland, and certainly not the gulf coasts. The most recent storm to develop is TS Maria which is currently way out in the Atlantic but may head towards Bermuda.

He's using it as an example. he saying that no matter how much the gov't has messed up, he's never "hated" them. He's just saying that all you people who are bent on hating EVERYTHING Bush does are pretty hypocritical. Bush flies in right away, you say he's in the way...he flies in a few days after, and you say he needed to respond earlier.

Like Joc said, he doesn't make all the decisions.

Don't get me wrong, I'm as Anti-Bush as anyone could be, but I can see where Joc is coming from, and agree with him.

I don't see how pointing fingers is going to help those who have lost everything and are still dying in new orleans as i type this..........if there are any more storms to hit the country this year it will not be a good thing...Living in a state that does get hit I can tell you they aren't fun, and the clean up after is horrible and takes a long time. Please remember that when you are celebrating the holidays and the new year and even as far as a year from now most of those people still will not have homes.

It's not political or religious its just horrible and sad hmm.gif
747400
That's exactly my argument ... it's not political or religious ... God doesn't come into it ... it's not the right time to grind any particular political axes, either.
BurnSide
Ms Katrina.

You really don't want to be in that things way. As we've seen.
