Hello I'm new here but I was wondering what everyone thinks about Synchrocinity or "meaningful coincidence".It seems happen to me alot of the time.I also wanted to know if yall seem to notice a time pattern it occurs in.

I don't get that very often, so i suppose for me it's just co-incidence. Have you kept a record of these events?

A simplified version of Jung's theory on synchronicity goes something like this .

Things happen to us for a reason and on most levels we will not even notice the common similarities but if we are really to take stock of the things that are happening around us, we will notice that every day, seemingly unexplainable coincedences are happening .

Strangely enough after saying that that sort of think doesn't happen to me, yesterday i was off to meet some friends in epping forest. As some of you may know, epping forest is quite a big place. I had been to this spot a couple of times before but not for a couple of years and it had changed quite a bit since i was there last. I was just coming up to a crossroads in the path, and was about to carry on going straight when a stranger came from the left hand path and asked me if i was looking for my friends. i asked him where they were and he indicated they were down the left hand path. Sure enough i found them.

If he hadn't of stopped me at that point at that moment i would never of found my friends. kinda wierd huh?

hmmmm... i'll keep a diary.

No I haven't kept a record i'm going to start, but I've noticed it takes only a day or less for the coincidence to appear.

that was quick.... i was typing on this very board and i decide it's getting late and decide to go to bed. i was just heading to my room when i hear my dog sneeze. (he sneezes some times) i go downstairs to see what he's up to and he took the gate down and would have gone upstairs and peed all over the place or something had he not sneezed that very moment. it isn't much, but it's a start.

can these coincidences happen in names? My friend in college was telling me about how her best friend Kelly married her other best friend Patrick. I just married my husband and his name is Patrick...mine's Kelly...kinda odd. On top of that my other best friend is getting married (we think) and her husband's name is going to be Jason...my ex's name was jason...coincidence????

Cat dewitt , I had a best friend in High school who's name was Kelly , her Brother was called Patrick and she married a guy called Jason .

Maybe coincedences are more common than we realise ..

i think it is also likely that we can find patterns everywhere we look

The Topic is about Synchronicity or Meaningfull coincedences .Dr. CarlG.Jung theorised that we are constantly affected by meaningfull coincidences as a side effect from the collective unconsience.
Here is an example ..

a simple way to explain the synchronicity is this. It's all just regular cause and effect. But when you look at it in reverse, in your memory. All kinds of explainations can then be created. For example......I am walking down the street. And a man stops to ask me for directions. I then stop to help him. As I turn to leave, I walk down the road to the right, when a piano falls from the sky just feet ahead of me. I then think.."oh my, if that man never stopped me, I would have been crushed! It must be a sign" But say for instance the man stops you and then you walk down the road to the left. The piano still falls, but you don't know about it...therefore the "sign" is not recognized and instead a savior, the man is just some guy asking for directions.....

But, since you see an effect, you can then overanalyze the cause....

either that makes sense, or I am just very tired....

With a RE: to the thingy above and the dude and the piano (lmao)... but the point is you did turn right on that road, not left. Surely that must account for something ? I personally, agree with it. Way too much has happened to me that sparks this long chain of events that (mostly end up) working in my favour. Not that I'm complaining you understand...

As far as I can see, cause and effect does not explain synchronicity at all. The example you gave, Dust, was not an example of synchronicity. If the man you had met had been called Mister Steinway, then that would have been synchronicity - and a fairly mild example at that, if you look at the outrageous coincidences that are on record.

Well Kismit I have a few books that talk about Synchronicity.

The first one is "Synchronicity The Bridge Between Matter & Mind"

The next one only has a chapter dedicated to this topic but the book is callled"The Mammoth Encylocpedia of the Unsolved"

The last book I have has only 4 pgs on Synchronicity but it's still pretty good, it's called "The Big Book of the Unexplained"

Thats all though Im always on the look for more books.

when your thinking about someone that energy can be picked up by the other person say,
when you ring your best mate or boyfriend (this happens to me all the time)
the phones engaged..then you ring again, or you get a call off the person you were ringing only to hear the..i was just ringing you and it was engaged.

when you know that somone you are expecting is at the door before they knock.

when you talk about someone and then see them the next day..

there are so many things like this that happen...

Well I've been trying to keep a diary but it's a little hard since you don't know

when their going to occur, so far I have 5 cases that have times documented,I've

had more but they were too far back to remeber exact times so I did not add them

to my diary.Still at it though.

This is a topic that is really amazing to me, because I always seem to have strange coincidences that have some sort of significant meaning during the time.

For example, I had some question in my mind about an idea I had about the universe, and I wanted to know if it was true. So basically, I asked for some sort of sign that would tell me if it were true. I'll never forget this. Maybe it won't sound weird or cool to anyone else, but it meant something to me. We were having a staff meeting at work the next day, and it happened to be my birthday. My co-workers are extremely caring people ( we all work with animals so I guess they'd better be) and someone went out and bought cup cakes for me. When I went over to get one and pass them around to everyone else, I saw that each cup cake had a plastic lady bug embedded in it. My nick name growing up was "lady bug". No one else knew that!! It hit me really hard in that moment that that was my sign I had asked for. Then of course, I couldn't really remember what I had asked in the first place!LOL, but it was really cool, and things like that happen to me all the time.

My question is whether other people experience this too, could you share a particular example, and what do you make of it?

that sounds a lot more like a standard coincidence then one worthy of being called synchronicity. maybe i missed something, maybe you forgot to mention something, i dunno. but seeing plastic ladybugs when your nickname was ladybug really...doesn't mean anything. that's simply a coincidence.

have you heard of jung's story of the scarab? that's a good example of synchronicity.

I run into this phenomenon alot. So frequently that I can almost test it.

For example, if I'm thinking about someone I haven't thought about in a long time it usually means they are going to call that day or the next.

If I learn a new word, or gain a better understanding of a word, it usually means that I will hear it that day. Either on TV, radio, or I'll hear someone use it. I'm the type of person that when I hear or read a word I'm not sure of, I take care of it right away. So its not like I just didn't notice the word because I didn't know it, because if I would have heard it prior to, I would have looked it up. So to hear the word after I just learned it seems syncronicitous.

During my daily activities, very frequently, I meet people that are in need of some type of assistance and I'm always able to help them out. Its gotten to a point where it seems like synchronicity that I happen to be around when these situations arise. And the people that I end up assisting seem to have alot in common with me.

Due to my job I always have to start conversations with people, it seems that most of the time when I grab a topic off the top of my head, the person always says "I was just talking about that", or they say that "So and so was just talking about that". I'm not talking about current events here either or things just printed in the paper, I'm talking about things I'm interested in, sometimes very unique things that you don't just bring up through normal conversation.

I have a list of things that I would like to ask people that I encounter in synchronicitous situations. I have, as of yet, not figure out away to ask these questions without sounding like a wierdo.

I would like to know certain things like birth dates, full names, family backgrounds, likes/dislikes...etc.....Just to see if there are other similarities that may ellude to why we encountered each other in that capacity.

I thought that to alleviate the thought of "weirdness" I would just start out by asking the person if they've ever heard of synchronicity, but I'm afraid the answer would be "I was just talking about that the other day"

I haven't heard a lot about this, but I've had a few instances of it...but I'm not interested by it...SP takes all my attention. It's a mistery of my life I cracked a week ago.

i have synchronistic (i don't know if that's even a word) moments all the time and it can be rather annoying, because by the time i notice it, something terrible has happened that can't be prevented anymore. it was because of this i got in a conversation with my philosophy teacher about my theory that if there's a god and sychronicity is an actual thing, then god can be a real prick.

as they say, "god pisses down your back everyday, but drowns you only once."
