Mine's Hermione...
Hermione, to me, is a good character to symbolize someone overcoming the self. When she began, she was a shrimpy, mousy little girl who shut everyone out because she couldn't live up to her own unrealistic standards. After Harry and Ron saved her from the troll, it seemed that she lightened up a bit, having people who could accept her. It probably saved her life...
As the books progress, Hermione evolves from the obviously hurting individual she was in book one to the confident, respected, even sometimes funny young woman who was already dedicating her lives to others represented in book six. Not only is her evolution itself so impressive, but the path she takes to achieve it is actually quite interesting.
Adult HP fans tell me that they were often seeing me when they read Hermione, which I take as a compliment. Ones that knew me growing up say that they remember me handling many of her struggles that were relevant to real life when they read how she overcame them. I don't see a whole lot of it, but I do relate to a lot of what she went through- although I do think she handled it all a LOT more gracefully, lol.
