Reading through Hoagland's website, I was amazed at the level of silliness of much of what I was seeing.

I am not a big fan of one Richard C. Hoagland(you know, the guy that claims there are aliens(face on Mars) on almost every planet in the solarsystem). His claims are grossly wrong, and generally easy to show as such. His analysis is flawed, his conclusions faulty, and his claims of conspiracy unfounded and unsupported.
Let's say that NASA really is a massive Masonic-Illuminati-whatever conspiracy, as Hoagland claims. If that were true, is it really likely that they would ever release pictures at all?
If they knew about evidence of aliens on Mars, then why not just launch probes in secret?
The far more likely conclusion is that Hoagland is completely wrong. If he were right, we'd never see these images to begin with. So like the claim above, some of the best evidence that Hoagland is wrong is that we see the images in the first place!
Like many other woo woos, Hoagland has suffered from pareidolia.
"People are always seeing faces in inanimate objects. We see them in clouds, in smoke, in random patterns on walls and floors. The technical term is "pareidolia". The reason behind it is pretty clear: as humans, we have evolved to recognize familiar faces. We see our mothers mere seconds after being born. We know by sight friends, family, enemies. We read a lot into faces, and our brain is hardwired to fit faces to patterns. It takes remarkably little information to see a face; think of those "Have a Nice Day" buttons that only have two dots and a crescent, yet we see a smiling face in them. Amazing. Natural, not paranormal at all, but amazing nonetheless."
