THE DEVELOPER BEHIND one of the most successful videogame franchises of all time has shut its doors this week having run out of funds for future projects.

Cyan Worlds Inc. developed the massively successful Myst which sold over 12 million copies worldwide and was the best selling videogame until The Sims. Now having run out of funds for future projects the company has laid off all but heads Rand Miller and Tony Fryman.

The company's final game, Myst V, will probably still see the light of day but what will happen to the company itself remains unclear. It might well be sold on as has happened to many companies in the past, such as Atari, with a new company essentially being built up around the old name and reputation.

For now however there are a lot of ex-Cyan employees looking for new jobs.
