Full Version: what would you bring?

Hurricane Katrina got me thinking. Given warning of a disaster, and evacuating your home was inevitable, what would you bring? It doesn't even need to be a hurricane, even a tornado or your home catches on fire.

It is early morning, the sun isn't even up yet, you are asleep, when the alarm sounds.
You have 10 minutes to grab what ever you can. There is no question to whether or not any life forms make it (family & pets) no one will die, or get injured. However, your home will no longer be there reduced to a pile of rubble or ashes, there will be nothing to scavenge through, what you can grab will be all that you have.

What would you take? What would you grab first?

What would I first grab? Back pack throw all my school crap out. Get batteries cd player a cd only 1. Some water bottles some food that I'd be able to eat. Plus a few pics that I keep with me all the time and I think that's all I would have time for.

There's nothing I own that I couldn't replace....... But I'd never forgive myself if I didn't grab my camera and record the events that followed......grin2.gif

Probably grab my wallet too wink2.gif
Euphoric Deception
My wallet, games, and cellphone - stuff them all in my backpack and throw them through the window. Why not make a dynamic exit when the house is going to burn down anyways?

We went through this a couple of years ago. Massive bushfires were heading our way, so I packed some bags and took the kids to mums.

Basically pictures, they can't be replaced, a couple of bits and pieces I loved and then all the boring stuff insurance papers bank accounts etc.
Also some clothes each and some toys for the kids that way if we did get burnt down we had some of our own stuff to tide us over until the insurance paid up.

My wallet, debit card, check book, the baby's diapers, my dad's guitars and my Ernie Banks autographed baseball.

I realized I never answered the question. laugh.gif That would be a hard decision and one would be to panicked to think I would guess, even now every time I go to leave I am always running back in because I forgot something.

I would probably go for film negatives, they are easier then actual photos. Wallet yeah, $ is good to have. My book of shadows, my pillow I know it's sad but there is just something about that thing not to mention the pillowcase is the first sleeping bag I ever had baby size. my moon wand (sailor moon replica)

Most of this stuff is already in my backpack, well not the film negatives and pillow. I have this box of stuff in a rubbermaid container in my car I have had it there for years
I sort through it from time to time. In fact on a general basis in my car I have a blanket
granola bars, which are constantly being replaced, some bottled water 2 coffee cans with a larger size candle in it (If ever stranded in winter the candles create enough heat to break the chill and keep window's defrosted). and I usually end up having at least two changes of clothes in my car from bringing them to change into at work, then being lazy and not changing then they just stay there.

I would only grab things that I knew my children would need. Some clean clothes, water, food, diapers, blankets, and a one toy for each of them so that when time comes to only sit and think they at least could get their minds off the bad things happening.
Super Pancake
I'd take water and food extra sox and under wear, then burn my house down, too destroy evidence that I existed, and become the Alias.
