Ive been having some real difficulty with some pop-up ads that keep coming up. My Internet explorer can be set to block all pop-ups yet they still keep coming up. Ive ran lavasofts ad-aware program, but it cant find anything. Ive also run a virus scan, and still nothing. It seems as if some ad-program hijaked IE and somehow runs along side it. Also the ads only pop up when im in Ie explore, and theyre random! Its not when I open a website, the ads pop up independently of what websites I go to.

Im wondering if anyone knows of any good programs that could get rid of it.

Thanks.

Another good program is: Microsoft® Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) it was able to remove some stuff that LavaSoft Adaware & Spybot S&D couldn't remove. I use all 3.

You are supposed to use multiple programs to get rid of the ones the others miss. Just because it is Microsoft doesn't mean it is good. I constantly remove spyware/viruses from computers at my work and that program is one of the worst but it may get better in the future.

Some good programs, most you can get off download.com:

Ad-Aware
Spybot S&D
Spyware Doctor
Spysweeper
HijackThis (Copy log onto hijackthis.de if you are not sure what the registry values mean)

Most likely they are coming in from an unprotected port…no spy ware or anti-virus software will help. You must protect the port. You can do so by following the instructions below:

Click on Start
Click on Control Panel
Click on Network and Internet Connections
Click on Network Connections
Whatever connection(s) come up…Right click on the connection
In the menu box that pops up Click on Properties
At the top of that box Click on Advanced
Check the box that says: Protect my computer…..
At the bottom of the page Click on OK
Make sure you do it for every connection!

Let us know how it turns out!

Another thing you can do is use a different browser. Firefox is good. So are many others. Regardless of your browser...protect your ports.

My mate had exactly the same problem last week and it ended up really slowing his computer.
He did a system restore(performance and maintenance in control panel) that went back before the problem(mid August)and everything seems alright now.
Sorry,im not very good with computers.Good luck though. thumbsup.gif

I never said it was good because it was Microsoft, I said it was good because it removed some difficult spyware that I was unable to remove otherwise, with the other programs that I use ( Spybot S&D & Lavasaft Adaware). I use all 3. Plus I have often d/l other tools, to remove specific threats.

If the problems with your computer only seem to happen when running IE, try downloading Mozilla Firefox: (an alternative web brower created by Netscape)

Firefox

Better security than IE, runs better, and is overall...well....better.

I don't even think your problem is that complicated at all.. did you recently DL any free programs that made you sign(or click) an agreemant?.... these programs are free for the fact that they DL some adds directly to your hardrive and are set up to display once in awhile while you surf the net. A simple Mcafee virus scan (well, an advanced one) will give you the option to remove it... but if you do, I would remove whatever program you DL'ed as well because you did enter a contract stating that in order to use program X you had to look at so many ads once in awhile.. a fair trade off... but can be annoying... hope that helps!

you've also got to beware of jumping viruses. they change directories when you run a virus scan, then replicate. those have to be removed manually, and are a pain in the butt. i would not recommend doing it yourself if you are not sure of how. it's really easy to ruin your system that way.

Bad thing about it is, as soon as software comes available to prevent pop-ups, the creators of the pop-ups find a loop hole...
If there's a will, there's a way.

First get an apple with tiger and use safari, works like a charm

Why don't you try Google Toolbar it blocks a lot of popups for me original.gif
