I was talking to my bro the other day and he asked me "What makes a good conversation?" I was like "Stupid question" disgust.gif ... but then remebered that there is no such thing as a stupid question hmm.gif . I though about it and came up with a few things, then I disided to ask the question to the great people on this forum. What makes a good conversation? What do you think makes a good conversation?

Anything makes for good conversation. I've had great conversations about P.K chewing gum (doesn't matter, I've got P.K *ding*). maybe not the most intellectual, or spiritual conversation, but............

I think the most important element to a good conversation is the company you're with.

Well that's my thoughts at least.

The Topic. laugh.gif
Serioulsly speaking, you need open minded people if it's gonna be a debate but if it's just a conversation, then it has to be clear, interactive, informative and entertaining.

Depends who you talking to

I think anything that interests you in either a positive or even negative fashion makes for good conversation.

Sex Talk, then everything else you want to talk about. Like others have said I think it does depend on the personality of the person your talking to and even the manner your speaking with the person. There are just somethings nobody wants to talk about and somethings people will open up to.

What makes a good conversation?

A couple of good listeners.

Like my man PA wub.gif said. You can talk about anything. I have had good conversations about Baked beans before. laugh.gif

Anything apart from the Hollow Earth or *insert conspiracy theory of your choice here* .... you'd have a way more intellectual discussion about chewing gum. unsure.gif

A good conversation relies more on the people involved than the topic in general. I've had great debates about foolish or trivial things, and woeful yawnfests about huge exciting topics

in my opinion, a good convo consists of actually talking to someone who is intelligent enough to respond...

I can't stand when I'm talking to someone and asking questions and whatever and they have almost nothing to say....ugh rolleyes.gif

Yeah I was just going to say that it depends on the person who you are talking to. Whatever they are interested in then that would be the best conversation if you ask me. Just hopefully you both have something in common.

Looks like everyone is on the same page on this question, because everyone is saying the same stuff. Every now and then I'll post a question where people can post their wisdom along with their comments. You can never know if the conversation was a good one until your done, because you get that feeling like you accomplished something. I'll post another question like this when I think of one... if you guys got any questions like this go ahead.

This is always good. Unspoken conversation.

I think the general consensus is, it depends who you're talking to. I have had very animated conversations about speed bumps, and totally dead ones about world peace (something I'm very passionate about, believe it or not). It just depends who you're talking to. thumbsup.gif

And we like these questions. wink2.gif
Universal Absurdity
One simple question usually leads to pretty good conversation, depending on how intilectual the either person is.

That question is Why? why anything? half of everything learned is done so by asking why. Its a very big question in a very little word.

A good conversation.. my opinion would be anything of interest makes a good conversation however it is difficult to have a good conversation about something of interest with someone that is stupid.

Diagnosis:

Good conversation.
Interesting subject matter.
Sensible not necessarily intelligent individuals.
Something to drink. (preferably alcoholic)

Any topic can make a good conversation. My wife and I have had great conversations about which brand of tire to buy for the car, what our favorite cereals are, are the Falcons going to win this year ETC ETC ETC
~TheArtOfContact~
The poet Robert Frost once had a situation with a best friend walking through a door. They ( as best friends supposedly ) insisted one go first before the other.
Back and forth they went.... insisting and being polite...ON and on and on ECT...ECT>

Of course, I heard about this and wondered to myself "How did they get anywhere?".... laugh.gif
