We have had a few foster kids over the years that really got into Shel Silversteins "Where the Sidewalk Ends"
I can do a rather Shakesperian rendition of Green Eggs and Ham, incredibly melodramatic and gets a wonderful giggle from kids...I wish I could do a good Captain Kirk impression; I think Kirk doing Green Eggs and Ham would be incredibly funny.
On a serious note, one of my favorite books of all time that was written for young adults is The Giver, which is a very powerful book in my opinion, for any age. If you haven't read it, give it a go. I think that a lot of it would be lost on kids younger than about 10 or so, but the way the book progresses, it is a rather shocking development for kids to realize as they read(It takes place in a Utopian society that isn't as perfect as you first think)through the book. It spurred many a very thoughtful conversation with out kids over the years...

If you were in your fireman gear, Fluffs, I would pay to watch that.

I was always a huge fan of horses when I was a little girl so I loved books like Black Beauty, all the Marguarite Henry books such as Misty of Chincoteague, and a few of the Black Stallion ones (they were usually too 'boy' oriented

).
I also still have my copies of Where the Wild Tings Are and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.

Mmmm.... lemme remember:
I remember there was a comic-book version of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" that I used to read over and over again. That is, until I read the original version

What else? I always loved the Asterix and Tintin comic-books. I think I read them all. If not, pretty close to read them all

Anything by Roald Dahl was awesome. I really loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Witches

Mmm... this is kinda hard

... I can't really remember now

I read a lot of Bruce Coville books that I remember well. They were some of my first science fiction and fantasy books.
The Neverending Story was really good... the actual book. I am not a big fan of the movies. Not much nostalgia for them as I had read and been read the book first.
My first fantasy series and one of my favorites was L. Frank Baum's Oz series. That includes the book that The Wizard of Oz was based on, which I believe was the first book.
That series deserves a good movie treatment... there were, I think, over 10 books.
As far as books when I was younger... the first book I read was a Dr. Seuss book. I had a lot of Little Golden books and other books like that.
I love reading.
