Okay I hvae part of the verse down. I make an Am chord, pick the A and D strings and then strum everything but the first E chord. Same thing for C but I make a C chord. My problem is that it says to next make a Dsus2 chord. I make one and then do the same process but it doesn't sound anything like it should. Any help here? I have a few more question when this one is awnsered. tongue.gif

I haven't actually heard the Johnny Cash version of Hurt, but the song is still awesome. I'm not really experienced (since I'm self taught) but I know my basics. If that part sounds incorrect, then look up the tab on mxtabs or ultimate guitar and compare it. I hope that's helpful. If it doesn't sound like the song, it might be an error in the tab.

Good luck in learning Hurt. I myself chose to sing and play Hurt (the Nine Inch Nails version) on the piano in front of my music class for a musical performance.

Well, I couldn't find Trent's version but Johnny's sounds basically the same except he altered a word.

You've got the first bit wrong for a start! ...

* You pick the A & D strings when holding down in Am
* You then strum the G, B & E strings

* Then hold a C chord and pick A & D
* Strum G, B & E

* Then hold a Dsus2 chord and strum D & G strings
* Strum B & E strings

Lol, if you had the first part wrong and were repeating the process for Dsus2, no wonder it sounded wrong.

Your problem is that you're playing the chord as it's known, ie. with an Am, you strum everything BUT the bottom E string.
They only give you the chords as a guide to save you the hassel of continuously changing fingers and strings. Play it like it says on the TABS, NOT as you know the chord (only hold the chord shape).

Hope this helps. original.gif

Wow, it's anything but hard. It took maybe maybe five minutes to master Smoke on the Water, which I learned because it's a cool song. You don't need lessons, they are a waste of money. Their are pleanty of sites on the internet like http://www.actiontab.com or http://www.guitarnoise.com . Just search around the web, that's wher eI've learnt everything. Excluding a book or two and watching my father play since I was born.
Tornado, I AM doing that. I know I may sound like I'm trying to argue but it sounds really bad. I've tried retuning it, tuning it lower, adjusting the settings on my amp and guitar. Maybe I just wasn't meant to play the last chord of the verse.
