It happened when I was about six or seven. I was playing in the backyard of our property when I saw this "skeleton" jump over the six foot side fence from our neighbours yard into our own in a single leap. The creature was about 4 foot high I remember. I was so shocked I just watched in horror as it proceeded to run through our yard and over the back fence into the old persons home we lived infront of.
After I witnessed this I walked calmly, or stunned, into our kitchen and told my mother I had just seen the devil. She told me when I was older she found this very strange as I was not allowed to read books or watch tv and movies of that nature and wouldn't have known what the devil was to begin with. But somehow I understood it was the devil, it was just a "knowing".
Even stranger was that after this incident an Exorcism was performed in the church situated on the grounds of the old peoples home. We heard the screaming one night as we got home. My mother phoned the police and a couple of days later they informed us it was "just an Exorcism " and that no one had been murdered.
I was just wondering if anyone else knows of, or has experienced something like this? I have found just one other story like this and it is horribly similar in that the "skeleton" was witnessed by a young girl while she was alone. Is there a title for this creature at all?

well i've never seen a skeleton but when i was 5 i was at my dads girlfriends place (they were having a party or something) but i remember looking over towards the hallway and a "man" (he was very skinny bony even underneath) in a cloak was walking away from her bedroom to the bathroom. i was in the living rom at the time with everyone else but none saw it (but then again they were busy with grownup things lol) the thing is though when i look back on it i don't remember even knowing about things like that back then i wasn't a protected child or anything but still its weird...

Its strange how most sightings are by children. Probably because they know no one will believe them.

Or their minds are just playing tricks on them. You got to admit children do let their fears take over their reality.

Yes, but if you don't know about those things, you cannot fear them, therefore you cannot lie about them.

As you said you were just a kid you probably would not have known when you were influenced by such thoughts, does your mom control all the aspects of your life. Was she their when you went to school, there was never a time where your parents were not their to control what influence your thoughts is that what your saying. At 6-7 you did not know what a devil was or boogey monster in general

Of course I knew of the BogeyMan, but I did not tell her I saw the BogeyMan did I, I said Devil, something I didn't even know about. I am not going to argue with some one that does not believe me, I've done that enough and it's useless. I am asking for people that have seen something like this, or know what it might have been.
It wasn't a person in a costume...it was made of bones. I could see through it. And I highly doubt a 4 foot person could jump a 6 foot fence in one leap anyway.

Was the "skeleton" making any sounds? Were there any footprints, or did you just go into your house stunned? Pretty creepy story though. I'd be terrified if I saw something like that. I guess as we get older, we arent' as atuned to certain things like this.

No, I do not recall any sounds at all actually. I didn't hear it running, or the sound it should have made when it jumped into our yard, just silence.

I don't know about anyone else but I don't remember much from when I was six or seven years old. It's quite possible that your memory has strengthened over time so that what may have been a shadow or something ordinary has slowly turned into "I saw a skeleton". This is normal. Happens to everybody. I bet if we told our parents about some of our memories, they would say that some of them didn't happen as we remembered.
I suppose it's possible that you really saw something that day but I guess that is the problem with children's sightings. You don't know if it's a problem with retrieving accurate memories or if something really occurred.
Personally, I also remember some strange things from childhood but I doubt my memories. I don't know if the things that I experienced actually happened or if it was my active imagination. I know that I now have some very annoying "gifts". I don't know why they call them that since it's more like a "curse" in most instances but I wonder about people who have abilities and their childhood experiences. If you have abilities now (meaning remote viewing, communicating with spirits, etc), has that potential always been there? Did it happen during childhood? Was it stronger then? I apologize for going off topic.

I don't know about anyone else but I remember alot of things from when I was that age. I thought everyone had clear memories from when you were 4 or older. Anyway, it was not my mind playing tricks on me! I don't think I would have mistaken a shadow for a white skeleton that ran across my yard....Is there any people that aren't skeptics...
No, no abilities, just strange happenings.

i have clear memories from when i was 2 ( a few) and 3 ( a lot more then most i think) but i'm just weird i guess.
but yeah i don't think it's just something a child would make in their fantasies that type of thing doesn't even enter a childs thoughts unless the idea was first described or encountered (sorry i'm bad at wording things) by the child at one point. i had never even heard of the grim reaper when i saw the figure walking through the hall but thats what it appears to have resembled in my now experienced (near) adult mind. i mean i wasn't unaware of the paranormal then but i didn't' know about dark or evil type entities so i doubt it was just a figment of my imagination.

I have very clear memories, in vivid detail, from about age 1 1/2 (18 months). In fact, my very clearest memories are from that age to about age 7. After that I have memories of course, but they are nowhere as clear or vivid.
Is there any voodoo practiced in your area?

I doubt there would have been voodoo. Although I am not entirely sure. Most people around the area were Catholic's I think. We are not though.

ok any story that starts out.....when i was 7 or 6 or 9 is going to be a bunch of bs. never have a read a story on here that started with that and actually was a somewhat realistic story. you say a skeleton jumped your fence....how does a skeleton without organs move can you explain that? thats like me saying " when i was 8 i saw my lawn chair run through the yard and jump over the bushes." it would be understandable if the skeleton was actually a man in a skeleton costume, but sorry skeletons and bones are inanimate objects. unless you have some sort of proof behind this story it will remain just that.... a story.
Skeksi

Well it's a story whether it's true or not, actually. Whether people believe it or not is another thing entirely.
"how does a skeleton without organs move can you explain that?"
No, I can't, that is the entire point of asking people whether they can for me, you see?
If it was a man in a costume, as you say, why the hell would I bother putting it on "unexplained-mysteries", it would already have explained itself, would it not?
Once again, I am not asking for people who don't believe me to answer at all. I merely thought maybe someone else had had a similar experience as the one other girl and myself have had.

as much as this sounds like a joke, i swear this is a true story. when i was maybe 5 or 6, we were staying in a hotel. my mom went to go to the office and left me sleeping in my bed. i was dreaming about michael jackson being a devil worshipper or something because he was trying to kill me and put me on some alter. i woke up screaming and crying, and i saw michael jackson standing in the room! zipper covered beat it jacket and all!
like i say, i saw this, it's not a joke, but it is damn funny. kids see crazy stuff all the time, its just the imagination 9 times outta ten. like my experience.
