That's enough bickering. Charlie if you have nothing substantial to add to a discussion other than a snide remark, then don't bother participating.

What part of 'enough bickering' are you having a problem understanding? There won't be another warning, any more irrelevant, childish remarks will result in consequences you won't enjoy. Is that understood?

Contrary to what you believe, there isn't a justifiable defense to the belittling remarks people are giving you grief over. The discussion was fine until you had to inflame the issue with a mean spirited comment. Suggesting that someone is 'on drugs' isn't an acceptable or credible response, those impressions are better left to yourself. You might want to keep that in mind.
The warning was for everyone, but don't become too comfortable, you were the catalyst in this particular instance.

In my opinion the whole point to religion was to answer questions that had no "real" answer.
And back then seeing something huge, flying over your head would be a question that couldn't be answered: So yeah, I agree that the whole christian religion is based on extra-terristial visititions, and in one known case interplanetary-breeding.

QUOTE(snuffypuffer @ Sep 17 2005, 04:40 PM)
I'm thinking maybe the God spoken of in the Old Testament is the embodiment of all the forces in nature that mankind at the time didn't fully understand. The Old Testament stories had been passed on as part of an oral tradition for hundreds, if not thousands, of years before finally being written down. As such, by the time they finally got committed to written language they'd probably been heavily embellished.
Another thing I don't like about the gods as aliens theories is that they completely discount the capacity for imagination ancient people had. They could have been sitting around a campfire making up stories as easily as any of us today. That's why I don't particularly like this theory, it doesn't give mankind nearly enough credit.

Genesis 18:
1 The LORD appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day. 2 Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground.
3 He said, "If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, [a] do not pass your servant by. 4 Let a little water be brought, and then you may all wash your feet and rest under this tree. 5 Let me get you something to eat, so you can be refreshed and then go on your way—now that you have come to your servant."
"Very well," they answered, "do as you say."
6 So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah. "Quick," he said, "get three seahs of fine flour and knead it and bake some bread."
7 Then he ran to the herd and selected a choice, tender calf and gave it to a servant, who hurried to prepare it. 8 He then brought some curds and milk and the calf that had been prepared, and set these before them. While they ate, he stood near them under a tree.'Sure doesn't sound like the forces of nature to me!

11 As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. -Kings II, 2:11
4 I looked, and I saw a windstorm coming out of the north—an immense cloud with flashing lightning and surrounded by brilliant light. The center of the fire looked like glowing metal, 5 and in the fire was what looked like four living creatures. In appearance their form was that of a man, 6 but each of them had four faces and four wings.
15 As I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the ground beside each creature with its four faces. 16 This was the appearance and structure of the wheels: They sparkled like chrysolite, and all four looked alike. Each appeared to be made like a wheel intersecting a wheel. 17 As they moved, they would go in any one of the four directions the creatures faced; the wheels did not turn about [d] as the creatures went. 18 Their rims were high and awesome, and all four rims were full of eyes all around.
19 When the living creatures moved, the wheels beside them moved; and when the living creatures rose from the ground, the wheels also rose. 20 Wherever the spirit would go, they would go, and the wheels would rise along with them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels. 21

The "eyes all around" were likely windows, I think. Thing is, I've always wondered what this had to do with God. I think it made its way into the Bible simply because at that time they had no other way to explain it. It was beyond the scope of what they knew.

One that could be looked at as possibly being an alien encounter, is the account in Exodus of Moses and the Isrealites following a cloud pillar. Exodus chapters 13 and 14, I think. But I'm not so sure about that one. And then some people believe the star that guided the wisemen was an alien craft.
Edit: fixed my typos....it's 3:00 a.m. here. LOL.

I think that was a dream or vision though wasn't it, not something that was really physically present.

If anything in the Bible could be an alien craft, it would be that wheel (those wheels). It just doesn't seem like a form of communication that God would take does it?
Yelekiah
Sep 19 2005, 06:45 AM
Correct. I was never sure what to make of it since a great deal of the Bible is symbolic. But for the longest time I thought it was so bizarre.
