As I have said in the past I have never seen a ghost. But my wife and kids have and I have seen object move by them selves , lights and buzzers and thing turn on at off for no apparent reason , and heard unknown sounds. Usually this happens sporadically and harms no one. We really haven't had any thing happen in our home for a couple of years now. Well things got strange again Tuesday night and I thought I would share as others have done.
My wife and I live alone ( except for two cats) in a two story house built some time in the late 1800's. I have two sons in town who stop by, and some time sleep here if they party to much. We are 5 blocks from the main street. We leave the front door unlocked just in case they need to come in. Small town so we are not scared of intruders. Usually!
At about 3:00 am tuesday night (wednesday morning ) I heard heavy foot steps in the hall out side my door. Thinking it was one of the boys I didn't bother getting up. The next morning the cats were in bed with us. Wife is allergic so this is a no-no and the hall door and bedroom doors both closed tight. I asked the boy who stopped by a day later who stopped by. Neither one, they were both out of town. HMM! So to make my wife ( and me) feel safer I bought an Infrared alarm for the hall way. Walk by even in the dark it makes a loud noise. Any way today in the late afternoon my wife heard the alarm go off up stairs. 3 or 4 times. When she checked it , the sensor was shut OFF. I had it off when I woke.
Now she's really bugged , how this can work while off. It shouldn't. And no the cats were accounted for. Well if anything else goes on I pass it on, normal or not.

thats so creepy
but you know, I heard once, that you should ignore it and not get scared because if it is paranormal, it will feed off of your fear and therefore get stronger.

An overactive imagination and an broken alarm, maybe?

Thanks for your story Roger.
If they scare you, you should talk to them and let them know.

Thanks guys ( and Gals) I my self would like to find a logical , sensible , reason for the alarm part any way. If you cant trust a machine who can you trust , right! What I am doing now is moving it (the sensor) to other positions to see if this has an effect while on. Still would not explain it sounding while OFF , but first things first.
Now today it worked as supposed to. I have tested sensitivity , and confirmed the power. See whats happens.

I suppose it could be possible that the on/off switch is faulty. But in light of you having heard those footsteps, and your cats getting into the bedroom, it does make one wonder.

I recently bought a house and we considered getting an alarm system. We had consultations with three of the leading companies. It's my understanding, from the info they gave me, that these alarms are extremely sensitive. My vote is for faulty and oversensitive alarm in this case. There is an outside possibility that paranormal activity is affecting the performance of mechanical objects in your home. This has been known to happen. It happens in my old house. I go to bed with lights off, they're on in the morning. Sensor lights go off and on all the time. If you find that other electrical objects suchs as clocks and lamps are affected then you probably have something other than a faulty alarm.
You have said that this sort of activity is not unusual for your home. What made this easier for me was to research the history of my house. I live in New England and basically all of our houses are old out here. I traced the deeds back and found out just who has died while living in this house. I already knew before I moved in who it was (I have other abilities) but it did confirm my suspicions. Knowing who was there and how they died and the history of the land on which your home sits, may be quite helpful to you. If you do have continued paranormal activity, you can then speak to him/her using their name. Therefore, he/she would feel acknowledged and sometimes that can stop the activity altogether.
Good luck to you.

We used to have a door bell that would be triggered by electical storm activity. And our current car alarm seems to have a very sensitive trigger when extreme heat/cold is subjected to it. Eg, if it has been a cold morning and the sun heats the car up it will set the alarm off. Or likewise if it is still warm inside the car but it gets extremely cold outside.
Anyhoo, about the paranormal activity, who can prove it??
But I have heard that poltergeist activity can actually be energy transferred to the environment by a pubescent teenager. How old are your kids, and does the activity happen when they visit??

Thanks to all for your impute. To answer Rainbow Rowan first my children are now grown ups. Two live far away with thier own families. I have 7 grand kids who visit on holidays and once a month or so. Two live in the same town are 21 & 25 years old and I have talked to them about this. Neither has been here at night. My 21 year old son though told me of things that happened to him while I was working my night shift job. About the same as my current happenings. And two of my Grand Daughters have and my oldest son have seen my wife's father in the up stairs bed room. He
past on in 1986 and the girls were born after. They were both 3 years old when they seen him. Lexi also played with a boy named Kimmy. My sisters son, who died in a house fire in 1980 was named Kim, THAT Freaked me and upset my Son in law who's Catholic. He believes its demons. I dont.
What Mariposa said I found to be a factor in the alarm system. Police car radio's and Citizen Band radios set it off, so I gave took it back. Good catch, thank you.
But last night I had the feeling of some thing or some one in bed with me. I have a TV next to my bed that i watch before sleeping.I felt the bed move like some one sitting behind me, but no one there. My wife has had this happen before , but its new to me. I am not working night any more, so now I am getting it.

I'm very interested in your experiences ROGER, because as you likely know, I've been having very similar experiences in my home, especially just lately. Last night, as I sat here at my computer, alone because everyone else was asleep, I felt a hand put pressure on my arm. There was no one there. I'm interested to see how things play out at your house.

I can sympathize about the strange electrical happenings: Recently two five-disc cd players (Different brands), in two rooms, have both randomly turned on and started switching discs over and over again. The first time was in the computer room, at around 11-11:30 PM, and the second time in my bedroom at 1-2 AM. Suffice to say it scared the hell out of me both times, but nothing has happened since and fortunately I'm moving.

I some times think the modern technology is getting so complicated that one machine interferes with five others.
P.S. My wife likes your avatar Angry Crustacean , says It makes her hungry ! LOL's
And doors always shut , windows closed , I live in Wisconsin and it's getting cold outside.
I think Earth chic's unseen visitors are bringing the weather down here for Halloween.

Ha! Ha! Not this year! We've had unseasonably warm temperatures the past 2 weeks and it's expected to continue for a while. In the 27 degrees Celsius range (that's about 82 degrees Fahrenheit). We've got every window in the house open. It was a very warm Thanksgiving yesterday, and t'will be a very warm Hallowe'en. We're loving it!
