I have two PCs I have one that I use just for sims2 but I haven't been using it because it's so horribly slow.

anyway.

I need to like, uninstall norton on this computer, I don't even use the internet on it and I'm always getting these popups telling me I need to update, why? I dont even use the internet! And I can't find the place that I need to do that, I went to the add/remove programs thing and its still not working.

Also I can't uninstall any of the windows programs on this computer, like microsoft word and stuff, theres always an error when I am trying to.

I want to FDisk but I don't think I have the disks for that, it's XP and when I was updating it to XP I accidently installed it twice, also I don't know how I'd reinstall the drivers on it, I don't have the disks, plus I just got a DVDR on it and I dont know how I'd install that agian.

Yeah I know I should call my computer guy, yeah yeah, but he's not reliable and always leaves halfway through working on it and we dont see him for a few months.

So I need someone here to help me how to fix this, I want to get the computer bare minimum to just what I need for the sims, which sounds nerdy and everything but the computers not really good for anything else.

So help? How can I uninstall these things? sad.gif

you can add me to msn if you think you know how to help, my other friend that usually does that is like in the middle of a mental breakdown so I really don't want to bother him with this. :/.

Norton Anti virus needs to update your cpu to combat new virus threats..?

Have you tried to restore your cpu to an earlier date..? Thats all I can really think of at the mo..!
Jeenuh
the thing is theres no way for it to get a virus because I DONT USE THE INTERNET ON IT. plus its out of date so it's always telling me I need to buy a new subscription and stuff.

I already did that, it did nothing.

How about press start click run and type msconfig then ok. You should click on WIN.INI where upon you will be able to disable files and any other programs you wish failing that I'm not to sure..?

Also do as above but go into 'services' rather than WIN.IN...? Worth a shot..!
Jeenuh
hmm, that worked to kind of disable all the stuff I was getting at startup. :S

the stuffs not gone though. :/ I usually just exited that stuff out in processes.

Well you really need to download a removel tool from symantec..? This virus sounds like the cause to your problems...? It corrupts files...!
dunderhead
These downloads are free if you have WinXP Removal tool

when my mom wakes up i might just ask her about fdisking it, she might have the disks I dont :/

i really dont know what to do at this point because I've pretty much deleted everything on the computer and I still have problems.

I couldnt download something because the computer doesnt have a modem :/

Hey, thanks anyway though, it seems to be going a bit faster now so it wasnt a total loss.

I'm not sure my mom will have the disks though so I unno. :/

Wow... I can see why the thing would be slow ohmy.gif

I'd just wipe the whole HD, format, and install Windows again.

Here's your boot disks: http://www.bootdisk.com/

Good luck.
