Perhaps the one with the last egg kept it in the basket

A mother, a father, a grandfather, a sister, and a brother took an egg/
BUT
The grandfather is both the grandfather, AND a father. <---2 people.
Thus, only 5 eggs were actually taken. It's a brainteaser type of thing.
(Hope I explained it right)
Homer's answer is also good.

That's hardly very satisfactory. I mean, what about the mother ? She's a mother and a wife. The father, likewise, is a father and a husband. The sister is a sister and a daughter and a grand-daughter, and the brother is a brother and a son and a grandson. The grandfather, moreover, is a grandfather and a father and a father-in law. And this is excluding all other inter-clan relationships.
As far as I can work out, on this logic the question should be there are 6 eggs in a basket and a bare minimum of 13 people take one. However either all 6, none, or any number of eggs in between are left, and yet everyone has an egg. How?

Alright, how about
Person 1
Person 2
Person 3
Person 4
Person 5 (pregnant)
^^^
2 people.
So the pregnant lady took an egg, and in eating it, both her and the baby have the egg.
The people are not related.
