In a recent interview promoting her latest flick, Kirsten Dunst co-star of the Spiderman movies let slip the villians and their actors in the 3rd installment of the series.

QUOTE
During an interview this weekend promoting Elizabethtown, Kirsten Dunst confirmed rumors to Zap2it that Thomas Haden Church will play Sandman and Topher Grace is Venom in director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, opening in theaters on May 4, 2007.

"We have really great people though as the villains in this film, Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace -- Venom and Sandman," said Dunst, who plays Mary Jane Watson in the Spidey films.

"Maybe I wasn't supposed to say that," she added before reversing her claim. "It's the other way around. You're right," she conceded to a journalist.

Dunst has yet to receive a script for the third film that will begin shooting in January. "But I know the general story. There's a lot that they're trying to fit into this one."

Hrmmmm.

*drools*.... I've been hoping and praying that Venom would be in the third one...

Yes, but Topher Grace as Venom? blink.gif

But I have a feeling that they wont bring the Goblins in because everybody will be like "Goblin again," so I could see Man-wolf, Lizard Man dou, or Sandman, Lizard Man dou, and if there smart either Venom, Sandman dou, or Venom and somebody else

edit: I forgot aintitcool.com confirmed Sandman is one of the villians and speculates that maybe Hob Goblin no.gif is the other. I hope not, I hope its Venom and Sandman.

I knew it ohmy.gif But she did not see the script yet so it could be false! i don't know how they going to pull off Venom and especially Sandman. Its going to take some very hardcore CG to pull it off. I guess they might bring in the people who did the mummy for sandman. laugh.gif
Shakezulah
I like Topher Grace as an actor, but I honestly can't see him as Venom. If they pull that off well, that will just blow my mind. But I'm sure it will turn out great.
AztecInca
^I agree, how can Topher Grace possibly pull off Venom, unless the Venom in the movie is radically different from the Venom in the comic books.
TooFarGone
I can see him as Carnage...small, weak, yet incredibly angry and evil.
Diary of a Monster
have you guys ever read ultimate spiderman in that the origen of venom is a little different. in that he is the same age as parker and they were old friends. It turnes out there fathers worked on the same project together the symbiot. It was suposed to cure all diseases.so parker mistakenly tries it on and once he realizes that its trying to take over he gets it off almost killing himself in the process. He then tells brock that they have to destroy it but brock doesnt listen and puts the suiton and the rest is histoy.
the symbiot becomes stronger with brock because it feeds off of his pure hatred of spiderman
kthxbye
I have no idea who or what Venom is, but I <3 Topher Grace so it's all cool.
panther10758
From what I have read Osborn will become Hobgoblin but not sure when. This dosnt follow comic but its could still work. Venom is fan fav and they really couldnt wait to bring him out or possibly lose some audience. CGI will play a big role in this film with both Venom and Sandman if done right this could be really could if not film could take down franchise. It will be interesting to see which venom origin they use since Secret Wars is out.
Byuu94
If done right Venom should be fine. Don't know abut Tropher Grace, though.

That storyline appeared in the 1990s Spiderman cartoon. Was done pretty well to if I recall yes.gif

If Osborn becomes GG or HG will matter little I think should still be good

I have never heard of the sandman before.

Thankyou friend. I am eagerly awaiting the new Spiderman game, it looks wicked.

I think I saw a picture of him on google images.

I think Topher would mke a great Venom. thumbsup.gif He and McGuire favor each other, and from what I remember Venom was a Spiderman "what would happen if" sort of thing. He's almost the dark side of Peter Parker, and whereas Spiderman is the 'everday guy' hero, Venom if the 'everyday guy' villian.
Mr Ed
I always thought of Venom as more than the everyday bad guy.
I see your point though. tongue.gif
Conspiracy
they should have that rhino dude in it to o.o
rickfury188
I can't really see Topher Grace as Venom, but then again, I can't see Kelsey Grammar as Beast. You just have to hope and pray they don't screw the already awesome franchise up. I hope Raimi knows what he's doing.
panther10758
Where Beast will NOT look like Grammar Venom will NOT look like Grace if thats any help but I do agree casting seems odd

Sandman and Venom = Great visuals and kick ass action

But Venom, Topher Grace is not. Eddie Brock is a body builder... He's big, bulky and tough looking. He's an every day guy. He's a guy who hasn't always had many breaks in life. He looses his wife and his life reaches rock bottom because of Spider-Man so when he gains the power that the alien symbiote gives him, the joint hatred he and the symbiote share for Spiderman take over to create the twisted, menacing Venom. Nothing about Topher says that...

I can see him as Ultimate Venom who is more similar to Peter Parker than his 616 counterpart. Which is one reason why I think they have chosen Topher. Rami said that Topher was chosen because he is a good actor and right for the complexities of the character he will play. They have picked Topher because he is similar to Tober MacGuire and they can play up the old school friend angle, like his origin on the Ultimate Venom character. I haven't seen Topher act in anything other than That 70's Show but I just can't see the fit at all.. Topher just does not seem twisted, menacing, evil, angry, complex etc at all...

It is also too early to introduce Venom. He can't be done justice in 1 film, his backstory would take more than one movie to explain, unless they go with something similar to the Ultimate origin (in which the Venom suit is a cure for cancer gone wrong). They are also trying to fit too much in... There's Sandman who is likely to be more than just a minor villain considering they have got Thomas Hayden Church to play him, there's Harry and his story and the possibility of him turning into Green Goblin 2 or Hobgoblin, there's Aunt May stuff and then there's the cheesy obligatory Peter and MJ stuff.

There is also Peter in the black suit. This is an iconic moment in comics and something that Sony Execs would be stupid to miss out. Millions of fans would cry out if this was ommitted... So You have to introduce the concept of Venom, Have Peter wear the black suit, have the suit pass on to Eddie and have Eddie become Venom... Too much for one movie!

It is also too early because they haven't finished off the Goblin saga - The story involving Harry walking in his fathers footsteps and becoming Green Goblin 2 (or Hobgoblin as it most likely will be in the movie) and final fight between the two once best friends... You can't have the intensisty of that as well as Sandman, MJ stuff and Venom.

So what are they doing? Are they gonna have Eddie become Venom at the end and leave him for SM4 or are they gonna have Harry behind the scenes and finally become the Goblin in SM6? But that would be too drawn out and this could be Raimi's and these actors last movie... It would be much better for Raimi to finish the saga he started and then have a new director start up the Venom saga for SM4 - SM6.

At the end of the day though I can put up with Topher as Venom. I mean it hasn't even been made official by Marvel or Sony. It could all be a sham to put people off. But If Topher is Venom, as wrong for the part as he is, he might turn out ok and I can put up with it... But I would have much rather seen Liev Schreiber (Cotton Leary in Scream 2) play Eddie Brock/Venom.

In another recent interview with MTV Kirsten Dunst let more slip saying that she 'thinks there are 2 and a half villains in SM3...'

Now I'm thinking that Sandman will be a big or main villain, Harry will be another villain either changing into a Goblin or pulling the strings behind the scenes and Topher will will be introduced as Eddie Brock - hence half a villain. Either that or Sandman and Venom are the two villains and Harry counts as the half a villain.

She also mentioned something about a ressurection, which could mean either Norman returns as the Green Goblin or in the sense that Green Goblin (2) returns as Harry.

It should be noted that Kirsten Dunst has 'messed up' before. In an interview before SM2 started production she let slip that Doc Ock and The Lizard were in the film and we got Doc Connors but not his alter ego, The Lizard. So maybe when she says Venom, really, she just means Eddie Brock.

I'm thinking that Harry will have a hand in creating Sandman and maybe even Venom. Now as I said Venom can't be done justice in one movie so I am hoping that if Topher is Eddie, that he will become Venom at the end of the movie as a cliff hanger and be the main villain in SM4.

At any rate, if Sandman and Venom are indeed the villains we will be in for some kick ass action. Aerial battles with Spidey and Venom and Sandman will be stunning on screen as nothing has been done like it before.

But we can also expect another average film... Both Spidey films have been fairly average. They have kick ass action as Raimi is a great visionary director but you can tell he is a B-Movie style director (and his style does suit Spider-Man which makes the action so great) but, especially in SM2, there have been scenes, mainly to do with MJ and Peter's love for her that have been down right cheesy... That is where the likes of Sin City, X2, Batman Begins and Blade hold up over Spider-Man because it is an entertaining movie but on mutiple viewings because of the cheese factor, it does get rather irritating/boring, unlike X2 etc which hold up well.

Anyway, as long as we don't get another burning building... rofl.gif As it is, right now, I am looking more forward to Ghost Rider, X-Men 3 and Superman Returns than I am Spider-Man 3.
Cadetak
I think there gonna kill off Osborn...maybe. What about Doctor Connors aka Lizardman. Were the hell is Gwen Stacey?
Cadetak
I also think Eddie Brock not Venom will show up and they will use the Ultimate story line. Also note the astronaut guy was in SM2. And Lizardman. All things point for Venom atleast Eddie.

For Example:
1. Doctor Conors(Lizardman) would help Peter with the Venom thing. Maybe connors would think that it could regenerate his arm...becoming lizardman (probly for SM4)
2. The astronaut guy would bring Venom into Earth...maybe Carnage too?
3. If they use Ultimate Eddie it would play perfectly into the whole "friendship" theme of the movie. Peter has to kill is best friend and his old best friend comes back.

AS for Sandman...I see him as a sidekick, maybe Harry's hitman to kill Spidey, idk.

Maybe even Doctor Strange will show up...I wish!

panther10758

Wasn't she the girl who was cooking for Peter's landlord in part II? There was definitely a "spark" between them, so I assumed she would turn out to be Gwen.

'Course I haven't seen the movie since it was in theaters, so I could be waaay off. laugh.gif
Cadetak
I dont think that was Gwen stacey. Peter mentioned a name. You gotta remeber that Peter had multiple girlfriends including the Bugle secretary, Black Cat, and Lizy from his highschool. Could be anyone. But Green Goblin kills Gwen so idk if she will be in the movies.

panther10758
Actually Gwen Stacy is killed by The Jackal if I recall correctly. Gwen comes back sometime later as clone.
Weird_Al_Wonnabe
they should be the main baddies, but they should like slip in glimpses of rhino or shoker, they rock
JennRose
I remember some blonde actress saying she was in talks to be the Black Cat, so maybe they will develop that storyline. I can't remember who it was, though now. hmm.gif
Cadetak
In th Amazing Spiderman comics Gwen Stacey was thrown off a bridge by the Green Goblin, SM tried to save here with his webs but when she was being pulled up she broke her neck on the bridge. Like Uncle Ben, Gwen Stacey Never came back in person.

I dont think that was a Gwen cameo in SM2, all my google searches say how everyone wanted her o be in it so...

Also the astronaut guy becomes Man Wolf after a space trip.

The villians for 3 are endless...Can you say Sinister Six?
Weird_Al_Wonnabe
I rekon the fantastic four and spider-man should be on a film together, like in the comics

Oh, and by the way JennRose, the black cat is a heroin, not a villain
panther10758
she us actually a lil of both lol

Every Marvel hero meets every other marvel hero ... just about. All th major ones atleast. There are evn some instences were marvel heroes meet DC heroes.
panther10758
When did a DC hero meet a Marvel hero I dont recall reading that?
Cadetak
I read an old Justice League Versus' Avengers Comic(it was liek a book comic) which was maybe from the 80s. The fought eachover oveer various objects in each universe because the both believed they were saving the world. At the end they team up to fight galactus. It was cool to see each version of the characters. Thor vs Superman, Captain America vs Batman, Green Arrow vs Hawkeye, Flash vs Quicksilver, etc.

There is also a "what if" one where like it was one universe. Superman/Hulk, Daredevil/Batman,etc. Was called Crossover Classic more new then the other one.

Yes, but Topher Grace as Venom?

I've only seen Grace in That 70's Show, where he's pretty cheesy, but remember Ashton Kutcher? He was that übercheesy Kelso in That 70's Show, then he went and pulled off The Butterfly Effect in an amazingly!
Cadetak
Yes but Venom is a big guy in the regular comics, but in the Ultimate comics hes like Peter. It has to do with his physique. Just like how Ashton Kutcher was going to play Superman...

There was that whole Marvel vs. DC line..

Topher Grace is in the movie, but he hasn't been listed for a part. Hopefully he does good in this, and as someone else mentioned, maybe they'll get a different director if they leave this open for a sequel, since Sam Raimi himself said he wanted to only do a trilogy.
panther10758
Last I read Rami IS directing but no mention of additional films. Dunst has been wrong before if we recall The Lizard oops she gave. We (briefly) saw Dr. Connors but no Lizard. We may see Eddie Brock but no Venom but time will tell
panther10758
I got this from moviespoilers.net

The third movie will follow the further relationship developments between Peter and MJ as they struggle to balance their lives and their relationship.

Thomas Haden Church has been cast as the main villain in the movie, He will play Sandman. The character was a prison escapee hiding out at an atomic testing facility when a explosion goes off. His molecules fuse with sand, giving him shape shifting ability along with various other skills.

Topher Grace has been confirmed as starring in Spiderman 3, he will play the second villain in the movie - Venom.

Harry Osbourne will become the Hob-Goblin in Spiderman 3. (Not the second Green-Goblin as in the comics.) This doesn't happen till near the end of the movie though.

Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire will both reprise their roles, but have said unless the script for Spiderman 4 is awesome, this will be their last appearance in the franchise.

JoeBean24
Although i do not believe grace on his own would be a good venom im sure that his villian persona will not resemble him im sure that some cgi effects will be in work, so perhaps the actor will just be the human face. venom rocks!!

Well you could see that coming, it was only a matter of time before a new spider-man had to be found and hopefully when it does happen the new one lives up to his predecessor!
Cadetak
I just read Wizard magazine this month and they had an interview with the director...he didnt say much. But the magazine brought up some interesting points. Like Church and Grace could be playing the same character, as in the shape shifting chameleon. Or Grace will be playing a MJ love interest.

Here is a list of all the rumored villians for Spiderman 3 and why:
Venom-We've been asking and its the next big story arc
Sandman-The director and Tobey maguire like this character. Nice CG effects.
Green Goblin 2- Watch the end of SM2
Hobgoblin - Harry in the comics beomes Green Goblin 2 but the movie could stray away from the comics. Or Church will play him.
Black Cat-Love triangle. Her cameos were cut from SM2.
Lizard-Connors had a cameo in SM2.
Man-Wolf-MJ left him at the alter. He could also be the guy who brings Venom to earth.
Mysterio-Some say Grace is a good fit for the role
Electro-IDK why people think him.
Dok Ock- We didnt see him actually die
Chameleon-would make a good second villian.
Sinister Six-IDK

Other popular spidey villians are: Scorpian, Shocker, Rhino, Morbius, Hydroman, Kraven the Hunter, Carnage, Vulture.

Catching on and playing along with the intense speculation over who will be the villains in the upcoming Spider-Man 3, Sony has launched a Villains Gallery at the film’s official website.

While the studio’s not saying boo about anyone one way or the others, aside from admitting that there has been serious guesswork going on. The gallery’s opening page reads: "There has been a lot of speculation about who the villains will be in the upcoming Spider-Man 3. We're not going to spoil your fun but here are some of the candidates."

The list of possibilities (all are shown with comic-book art and character profiles) include: Carnage, Chameleon, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Green Goblin, Hobgoblin, Hydro-Man, Kraven the Hunter, Jackal, Lizard, Mysterio, Rhino, Sandman, Scorpion, Venom, and Vulture.

This is the first “official” word from Sony about the film since the announcement of Topher Grace joining the cast in May, and of course, will be seen by some as Sony muddying the waters to renew speculation to a wider field of candidates following reports that Kirsten Dunst, who plays Peter Parker’s girlfriend Mary Jane in the films, revealed the villains of the film to be Venom and Sandman during a recent press junket for another film.

I think it's fairly safe to say that both the Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus won't be used. Harry Osborn would more than likely be the Hobgoblin (so it doesn't seem so much of a re-hash) if he were to follow in his father's late footsteps, and Doc Ock is presumably dead, although no-one is truly dead in the world of comics... well except Bucky.

Carnage is the spawn of Venom, therefore Venom would come first. Electro and Hydro-Man would be cool but the latter isn't a classic villain and Electro hasn't been connected until now and since his powers are electrical he might be too similar to Dr. Doom to go with. The Lizard would be quite visually cool but would make most sense in a spidey film, where Kraven was included and I can't see Sony taking that route yet. The Rhino, Scorpion and the Vulture are good secondary villains but probably not enough to be the villainous fulcrum upon which the film would revolve around. Same with Chameleon although IMO he's a rather boring villain and has nothing going for him in terms of actions/power scenes. So, again, not this film. The Jackal? No way; not after the Clone Saga.

Mysterio would be an excellent choice, but unlikely. This would be a good choice for Spider-Man 4 provided they also used a good supporting villain in, perhaps, a similar style to Batman Begins with the Scarecrow, such as Scorpion or Rhino.

So far, I've eliminated Carnage, Chameleon, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Green Goblin, Hydro-Man, Kraven the Hunter, Jackal, Lizard, Mysterio, Rhino, Scorpion, and Vulture.

That leaves Hobgoblin, Sandman and Venom.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say... Hobgoblin and Sandman. Venom would be an interesting choice, but Sam Raimi has never really expressed a particular interest to cover this character before, and I don't expect him to start now. He also has a fondness for classic golden age villains (such as Sandman) which (while you could argue Venom is a classic Spidey foe) Venom isn't a golden age foe. There's a lot of back-story to develop in using Venom and that would probably become muddled in the inevitable Harry Osborn arc.

Both are intense, primary villains with intense, primary stories to tell - they would simply get in each other's way. There is no reason whatsoever for Raimi to drop the Osborn angle or leave it for a later film. I can't see Raimi staying on beyond Spider-Man 3, and it would make sense, from a story-telling perspective if the entire Osborn story were told within that time. Makes for a trilogy, wouldn't you agree?

Venom will be used, but not yet... If Topher will play a villain it will be someone else, perhaps Electro but there isn't really anyone I can see him as except Electro, Mysterio, Spot and Beetle. Most likely though, he will be playing Eddie Brock and possibly become Venom at the end of the film but Venom won't be the main villain in SM3.

Jake Gyllenhaal for Peter Parker in SM4-SM6!
panther10758
Carnage, Chameleon, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Green Goblin, Hobgoblin, Hydro-Man, Kraven the Hunter, Jackal, Lizard, Mysterio, Rhino, Sandman, Scorpion, Venom, and Vulture.

Here is my take on this list

Carnage-No Venom must come first they wont introduce Carnage without Venom

Chameleon -No he is a lesser known Villain and could be a scondary villian but a weak one

Doc Ock- Yes but not yet I look for his comeback in spidey 4, 5 or 6

Electro- maybe but he too I feel would be a secondary villian

GG- No I think they will stray from comic story and let Harry become Hobgoblin maybe in Spidey 3 but more likely in spidey 4

Hobgoblin- see Green Goblin

Hydro-Man- Not likely not a well known villian or popular one at that

Kraven- Yes and maybe in Spidey 3 as set or cameo like Dr. Connors

Jackal- Naw like previous post not after clone saga

Lizard- I said right after seeing Spidey 2 that 3 will have Lizard I still stand by that

Mysterio- Maybe Topher would be a better Mysterio than Venom Dunst slip may have been to trick us

Rhino- Not yet needs set up. Set up could be in Spidey 3 but no Rhino yet I think

Sandman- Very likely he is one of Spideys long time enemies and would be great to see I think yes we will see Sandman

Scorpion- Not yet I think JJ's hatred of Spidey needs to be developed more first after all its JJ thats creates Scorpion in a way

Venom- Leaks say yes but I think maybe the set up for Venom but no Venom least not fully yet.

Vulture- As part of Sinster Six yes but not for a film or two
