Event Horizon
Some people claim to be able to see into the future or predict an event before it happens, so does this mean that the future is set there is no free will in it, that that our lifes are just being played out like a book or something
different
there is a big debate on this. i think that we see what is coming up that will most likely happen and it is not set in stone
rose_ashes
they see what will happen assuming no one does anything about it to stop it.

for instance, just say a psychic knew beforehand that a murder would be committed... they could stop the person from being murdered, thus altering what the future would have been, had they not intervened... but then again, that would make it imaginary, because the psychic DID intervene and therefore that outcome never would have happened.

The funny thing about people predicting the future is that if they tell people what they saw, the event turn out the way the phychic saw it. If they tell they saw it after the event happened there is no way to tell wether they saw it or not. A vicious cycle.

The thing is if you predict the future in any way no matter how small, you might change the predicted outcome, then everybody would call you a liar.
I believe some things might be set, but most of the future is changable.

I have had experiences like this and agree. I believe when you have a Deja Vu, it is because you have some how seen the future. Whether it be in a dream, or at some other time, you saw the exact same thing before. I have actually changed the outcome of a Deja Vu several times. Once you learn to do this, you can change them any time you have them. It is very strange. I didn't even believe it was happening at first... For example : When I was 17, me, my mom, and my sister were driving over an overpass...a Deja Vu started...and I knew that a huge Semi was going to be on the other side of the overpass pulling out in front of us. There was no way for me to see the other side of the overpass before, and I swear this is true. I yelled at my mom to slam on the brakes(that is the point the Deja Vu ended because I changed the outcome that I knew was coming), and we stopped just before hitting the trailer of the Semi. I know all the Skeptics out there are going to say I am full of it, but I have 2 witnesses (mom and sister). Afterwards, they were very frightened, and wanted to know how I knew the Semi was there. I explained it to them, and they knew that there was no other way I could have known. Ever since that point, I have been able to change Deja Vu's. Most of them are meaningless, but I can change them. Very Strange. As for a "Set Future"? I don't think it exists.

I still subsribe to the generally accepted theory that Deja Vu is just your synapses firing twice by accident. As for the semi incident, it is pretty amazing, but it could still have been a coincidence. I'm sure there's been many a time when other people have suddenly shouted something from intuition such as this, and in the end nothing happened and everyone just thought they were crazy. laugh.gif

I think that people who claim see visions, see probabilities, and not an actual set future. you have choices. It's like a web.
What they see is only the likely outcome of a single choice.

Yes, I agree with this theory, the furute is NEVER written. From more than 1 year I have seen many "futures", the english for example did a good job delaying the attack on London, sadly they continued their policy and where hitted but if they retreated the troops on time another shoul be the story. Also, I had tons of dejavu for everday life before the "explotion" of these other psychic habilities, I used them a lot to change my stuff (normally I have a tendency to say very bad jokes or being too sarcatist, it help me to avoid bad moments, lot of them)
Is interesting this debate, original.gif

This seems like a fallacy. For example, if time travel were invinted tommorow, and you went into the future twice, you think you would arive in two completely different futures? You will inevitably do whatever it is you're going to do, and that dictates your future. As you will only have one chance to make each choice, your future is predetermined to that extent.

Unless you are only going to a likely future and not the set one. The possibilities are endless.

I don't believe it was a coincidence. Things like this have happened to me more than once. As for my synapses firing twice? I doubt it. If my synapses were firing twice, I don't think it would be possible to change the outcome. Like I said. While having a Deja Vu, I know what is going to happen. Example: I walk into the kitchen and open the fridge. I can either select pickles or carrots as a snack. I pick carrots. The Deja Vu starts and everything is EXACTLY like it has happened before (in a dream or a premonition....who knows). I know exactly how the Deja vu starts and ends. If I do nothing, the Deja Vu plays out just like I saw it before. If I chose to change it, I can grab pickles instead of carrots. Confusing, but do you understand what I mean? I have tested this like 50 times. It works. Also, the more often I change Deja Vu's, the more often I have them. Very strange. The only 2 things that could be causing this are : 1. It is real and I am changing a dream or premonition of the future, or 2. I am going insane. original.gif

Good question.

I... don't know. I think it was set in stone at the beginning, but we're just too stuborn too follow it and are creating more 'words in the stone' as we go on... grin2.gif
