I was wondering if anyone here is a big fan of Rammstein (the official website)
They are very industrial and metalic, but their songs have such power and the lead singer, Till Lindermann, has the most low, powerful voice, they are german by the way and their lyrics are on this site

They are amazing live and ill post pictures and info on them once this thread gets going!

their still around?

I love Rammstein and I have to say that I made a 109 in AP German because of them, lol. My favorite album is Sensucht....those were the days.
Their videos DVD was excellent with "Du Riechst so gut" being the best vid. Perhaps I have a soft spot for wolves. Man, I'm going to get "Sehnsucht" stuck in my head now.

I can't type what I really think...

but I will say in my opinion as a musician, that is not industrial, it's crap....
Yelekiah
Well I guess it's more electronic since it's German music. Industrial to me is more like Slipknot, so it's a misnomer.
I'd like to add that their lyrics are well-written, and the lead singer has a good stage presence. You can't escape the fact that they are excellent performers with the pyro.
distortedpandy
slipknot......industrial? blink.gif

........k, I wont say another word b/c that would throw this waaayyy off topic...
Yelekiah
You don't have to because they call actually themselves Industrial.
but back to Rammstein...
Pharoah
Never heard of em'. I like classic rock, Queen, Pink Floyd, Ozzy Osbourne, Chicag, etc. original.gif

Good point. Then they are essentially neo-Industrial. I think that's more appropriate.

excuse me for leaving out the sub-catagories..

anyway back on topic,

in my opinion, rammstein, crap....

pandy, over and out.
Shakezulah
Rammstein is OK. They have a few songs I like, but most of the them annoy me.

O yeah, and in NO way at all, is Slipknot industrial in any form. I've never heard anyone refer to them as such. Industrial metal is bands like Static X and Spineshank.
Yelekiah
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrial_rock
if it popularized nu-metal then they are a subgenre of the original Industrial. You can call them a neo-Industrial band if some of their songs are according to that.
And Rammstein is also in the subgenre of Industrial music.
edit:Actually, it really doesn't matter considering that Nine Inch Nails is considered nu-metal and then at times Industrial. The same applies with Rammstein, so all these genres sort of overlap each other at times...
Claizen
Rammstein.. Really wierd. I seen this video of them performing live, I cant even say what they do on these forums... Its just too gross..
coldethyl
i really like the song and video for 'sonne'. that one just grinds. my brother-in-law is a huge fan though.
ATDI
heh, I always thought of rammstein as kind of a novelty band. The kinda band you would here in crappy action movies.. *cough* XXX *cough* and such. Theyre actually kinda funny to me.
Talon
I've only hear two or three of their songs, but I liked what I heard.
Baku
I dont really think hard rock is music but those guys are an exception they just rule!

Horrible. If you want to feel unique you don't need to listen to a band that doesn't speak english....That makes just about as much sense as listening to enya or the macarena. Try reading a book written by an intellegent person, or music written by an intellegent person such as The Decemberists, or Bob Dylan, or Elliott Smith, or Nick Drake....Metal is for uneducated morons who only listen to what is fed to them by society...I'm pretty sure you'd like the rock band Muse, I promise they're a whole lot better than Ramstein, and they can actually play their instruments.

Actually, quite a few people listen to Rammstein to help with German pronunciation. In fact, one of my old German teachers brought it in, so I guess that means she's an uneducated moron.
My best friend finds Rammstein's lyrics to be both visceral and intelligent. He's right. Also, I might add that he has a Master's Degree. wink2.gif

Yeah, I bet she also listened to Falco...And David Hasslehoff. I don't find anything intellegent about their lyrics what so ever. They're about as contrived as the songs they sing on Barney.

Actually she doesn't like Hasselhoff since she's a prude, but a good deduction anyway.

Really shows what you know about metal. That is a very stupid and ignorant comment. It also doesn't make very much sense. Considering that 90% of metal bands are underground or less known, it really seems like more of a choice people make to listen to them, rather than being "tricked" by society to listen to. Also considering that 90% of todays "rock" bands is all mainstream garbage, that really seems more like the genre that society does its job with. Also, I have no clue where you got the idea that metal bands can't play their instruments. The only logical explantion I can come up with is that you're too blinded by your ignorance. Infact, metal bands probably show more musicianship and ability more than any other genre of music. I listen to metal, so that must make me an uneducated moron, huh? I'm sorry, the only moron here is you, for taking the time to come into a thread to put down a band that is in a genre that you apparently know NOTHING about.

Have a nice day. original.gif

Have you tried the new Alt+f4 function? It's really good thumbsup.gif

Have you tried reading a book, other than Stephen King? Have you tried listening to good music that isn't blasted up your arse every 5 seconds by clear channel entertainment? Have you tried listening for meaning in music? Have you tried listening to an artist that doesn't pay into the payola system and actually has a mind or minds of their own? Have you ever not been a total disgrace to the idea of free speech?

You are [attachmentid=19248]

People come in here to discuss Rammstein and their performance, etc. If you'd like, you can start your own thread about Stephen King and free speech. No one will stop you.

Great to see that that's your last post. Thank god.
Now back to intelligent conversation...
My favorite videos are Sonne and Du Riechst so Gut; I always like how they take thematic elements into their videos.
Shakezulah
daydream, I know you probably won't post in here anymore or even look at this thread, but I feel the need to reply one more time to the complete and total BS that is in your post.

QUOTE

I don't know what the hell Stephen King has to do with anything, but I can say that I've never read one of his books in my life.

QUOTE

Yes. I always listen to good music. Never anything bad. It's not my fault you're too close-minded to different kinds of music to accept that different people have different tastes.

QUOTE
Have you tried listening for meaning in music?

Again, you evidently know nothing about metal. Most metal bands take a very subtle approach to the meaning in their lyrics. I don't know about you, but I'm smart enough to understand it. rolleyes.gif Go listen to Killswitch Engage and tell me that they don't have some of the most meaningful lyrics you have ever heard.

QUOTE

This, again, brings up the fact that most metal bands are underground, and sign with labels and companies that let them express themselves more freely. Some bigger labels (i.e. Roadrunner) let bands do that anyways, thus allowing them to become more popular, but that doesn't necessarily mean they don't have minds of their own. Apparently, what you think of as metal, isn't even REAL metal. Most of it is what we call "nu metal", which is 99% mainstream, and allows people like you to make false generalizations about what all metal is like. Trust me. You have NO idea what metal is. thumbsup.gif

QUOTE
Have you ever not been a total disgrace to the idea of free speech?

I have never been a disgrace to the idea of free speech. Let me tell you something. EVERY band uses the idea of free speech, thus allowing them to alk about whatever they want to, wether they swear, or not. Swearing profusely doesn't disgrace the idea at all, but only enforces it's meaning. Or else, what would free speech be if we couldn't talk or sing about the most vulgar and offensive stuff on our minds? I'm not saying this is what makes a band good, so don't take that the wrong way.

The lesson we learned here today, kids, is to not talk about things we don't know anything about.

If you feel the need to come back here, making some lame, stupid statement on why metal is for "uneducated morons", as you put it earlier, I'll be right here waiting.

To get back on topic, I know that Rammstein has a new album coming out, and that they have a single from it. I heard part of it the other day and it sounded pretty good. Does anyone mind telling me what it's called?
JennRose
I remember a big fuss being made over this band when the Columbine shooting happened; the killers were big fans (and not of Marilyn Manson, like everyone seems to want to say rolleyes.gif ) I checked them out for curiosity sake and can safely say that I will probably not revisit them anytime soon. thumbsup.gif Totally not my scene, but thanks for asking.

puh-leeze another example of 'if you don't like what i like, you're wrong' syndrome. sleepy.gif
he prolly listens to techno....

anyway i think that the 'sonne' video was genius. i probably wouldn't have listened to a song in german if it hadn't been for that compelling video. i ended up really liking the song and paying a lot more attention to their other stuff.
Xylaphonic
Well, I think their songs have very good meaning and you can learn alot from them, I love sonne, the first rammstein song I heard, I went to see them and they were amazing! The fire and the whole crowd singing along, best time of my life!
SnakeProphet
Rammstein's not bad, I like "Sonne" and "Engel", and their new one : "Benzin".
