Greetings,

I don't was to sound foolish...or to waste your time; however, someone told me a story that is truly unbelievable. They are swearing to it's truth, and say nothing will be going public, due to the mass hysteria it would cause...my heart says just someone playing a joke on me (wouldn't be the first time) ...but I take things like this more seriously....I've learned that anything could happen. Anyway this person told me that there is a giant mass - coming our way. It's hugh and will break up somewhat when entering our system but still it will do much destruction (that few will survive worldwide). I figure it is a hoax...but some other people have reported seeing it in the southern / southwestern skies - it is say to be enveloped in a hugh black cloud. But I wanted to check it out. They say it's been there since around 1979. They say if you look you can see it now through a telescope...but soon, everyone will be able to see in in about a week or so (I think without a telescope)...I will look, but I'm not even sure what I would be looking for. So, I'm looking for others who might of heard of this and possibly know how to verify such a event.

Again, I'm not trying to be disrespectful and I'm sure this note seems crazy, but if you would respond to me, I would be thankful. Of course a few that are taken in by this then start saying other stuff....like govt officials reporting to CO - they apparently know about this thing.

Thank you for listening.

Regards,
Jan

welocme janiemille!

no, you are not wasting our time. I have to say that whatever that thing is, i don think its real. How can people see it if its suppposed to crash to earth! Unless it was capture by earths gravitational pull (and it was not) It was just a story made up to scare ppl

That's what I was hoping to hear. Some people make things sound so real...it mixes people up.

Thank you.
indeed
I agree with frog, sounds just like a story made up to try and scare people.

There are that many amateur astronomers im sure one of them would have noticed this and the word gotten out to everyone within these last 25 years.

To put you mind at rest just wait a week and look south / southwest, if you cant see anything you know it all a story. Though personally I wouldn't even waste the effort, seems like every week a new end of the world story is made up.

Thank you all for your reply. I wasn't in a panic about it...it was just that a little over a week ago on a business trip a stranger told me something that scared me a bit (not about a space blob..but some earth changes coming up this month)... so when I got this information delivered to me, I wanted to check it out with other people....thanks again.

ur welcome...i bet u will like UM...its a great forum...with nice people

how could u see the thing with a normal telescope if it hasn't even entered our solar system yet. U need some bloody multi million/billion telescope to see pluto well, how are they suppose to see this otehr thing with a normal one which hasn't reached yet (if it had reached, the press would be going nuts about it).

Anyways, predicting if an asteroid or wateva is gonna hit earth isn't that hard. U gotta take into consideration the position of the earth in the solar system upon which the asteroid or wateva reaches our planets path. Not too difficult, but is when the bloody thing is far out as being out of our solar system, Lol.

Take planet X into consideration. Apparently, its suppose to be the planet after pluto, we know really not much about it. And the only way the BEST OF THE BEST telescopes saw it was by a shadow or something, now one has seen its surface (from my knowledge). And yet, we still no nothing about it, and how are we suppose to know about asteroids out of our solar system if we can't even understand/see planet X yet cause of the distance.

I wouldn't worry at all mate, wink2.gif, it seems farfetched. Anyways, believe it or not, the US government are apparently already preping up for such worries, some name, i forget it. It was on the news at one stage, about some space thingo (not that there has been any reports of any).

Thats my 2 cents anyways. Hope it makes u sleep easier. Cause i wouldn't be worried. But that doesn't matter, cause im the dude that doesn't care if i die, It can take my body, but neva take my soul AHAH! grin2.gif

I have said it before, but it's 1 in 200,000 that something "hits" the earth. Remember what happened to Jupiter? It was 6 or 7 enormous asteroids that hit a few years ago... Just one of them couldlve killed us all... unsure.gif "Not If, But When"...

Sounds like a variant of last years silly 'Aussie Bloke' hoax.

Something will hit the Earth sooner or later. It has been proven by scientists according to the probability law. But the chance that "something" to be big enough to do real damage it's not very big so we can all relax. original.gif

Yeah well, I'm not saying I don't agree with Scientists, but I dun care for the way it seems they can almost figure out anything. Even that something WILL hit the Earth. I wish I could live for a long ass time just to proove them wrong. =D

Someone got hoodwinked by an article published in the Weekly World News - think National Inquirer. rolleyes.gif Suffice to say its rubbish, you can relax. thumbsup.gif

It is prophesied in the Bible that stars will fall from heaven, one of which is called Wormwood and will poison the water, and many will die. That will be the beginning of
the sorrows of the earth.
But those who have the seal of God on their forehead, will escape these sorrows.
Revelation, chapters 9-10

That’s was just one of the seven seals, there are many more. The seven bows, blah blah. The birds will eat the flesh of men. An angel standing in the sun… it goes on and on…

Anywho… Who’s to say what’s heading our way through the galactic emptiness? But on the same note I did watch Armageddon the other night. Great film.

What I was thinking was, this question that was asked is like a merged topic - it takes probably more than one section to unravel.

Obviously it is an 'Urban Legend' someone was trying to get started and never really succeeded. Not exactly anyway...

There was talk of a 1500(?) foot wide asteroid that is due to hit Earth in 2028/2029(?). I think they said there is a 1-in-300 chance of hitting, but the risk could be eliminated once the astronomers know more about it. Who knows? huh.gif

Sorry, not trying to scare you here, but there's always a possibility.
