Has anyone ever heard that the government is always monitoring everything? Phones, computers, radio's, even this? I've heard of a secret underground base that listens to phone calls and starts recording when chosen words (like bomb or president) and then gets analyzed later. I'm pretty freaked out about it. They could be watching right NOW!
JMPD1
Why? Are you doing something that you shouldn't?
Azalin
There is not enough people in the world to track and listen to every single phone call worldwide. Phone companys do record phone calls using systems, so if you want a phone log, you can go and receive it, but Im not sure to the exact degree that they hold every persons phone calls. I think it's a benefit you might be able to pay for.

So in short... no, the government does not scan all phone calls / e-mails / radios and the such. HOWEVER, they do have the power to do it, and they WOULD do it, if for some reason you were under surveillance.

Incorrect. Phone companies have a pay per use "call trace" type of service that can be activated immediatlely after hanging up. This logs such information as originating #, location and length of call. This information would not be readily available to the general public but would require a warrant to release due to privacy laws.

Thanks for correcting me. I know the government has a way to see your phone log. They would more or less record every call.
GreyWeather
heh, paronoia.
I doubt that they actually do do that. as what was stated before, that'd only happen if you are under survallence for some reason and the police are trying to catch you red handed. but yeah, they'd need a warrent first, and they usually last only 2 weeks, sometimes.

Edit

heh, 'do do' laugh.gif

Isn't there some super computer called `THE BEAST` that records and then searches for phrases or keywords...Anyway, that`s what the local 'cult' leader, read youth group, says...Then I thought, that computer would have to have some seriously wicked voice recognition software...Damn half baked theories always spread like a disease among the weak first.
frogfish
yes, they have a search engine that searches everyone's email for a keyword...my Political & Economics teacher told us
Original
I think it seems highly unlikely that the government could do this, it seems a little too farfetched. Plus they would be able to stop the majority of domestic terrorism and criminal acts.

This thread seems more suited to the conspiracy forum to me hmm.gif

I'd say judging by the fact that people are still able to get away with organisingextremeist attacks, viewing child pornography and organising internet suicicde packs the government are not monitoring everything.
And if they are they are doing a very poor job

agreed yes.gif

Azalin, perhaps I misunderstood when you said record. I assumed you were saying the telephone conversation was recorded. They do however keep a record of calls. Originating #, destination #, length of call. This is called billing.

I have heard and reasonably believe that its true that government agencies do monitor calls to a certain extent, but when you think of the sheer number of phone calls (both landline and cellular), email, instant messages, text messages, etc. that are sent every day. I hardly think that anything but a very small percentage ever gets monitored.

Pharoah
I doubt it; we're too boring. Who'd wanna watch us constantly? The government? The governments boring in the first place.

"A closed circuit T.V., to make sure they're all safe" -

'The Fletcher Memorial Home', Pink Floyd.

Or the government could be watching us to see if we are safe... who knows? grin2.gif
pallidin
Well, I'm using voice recognition technology right now to compose this comment. And this is with a puny, consumer grade computer and consumer grade voice recognition software.
Just imagine what the government could do with a billion-dollar supercomputer and specialized software.
mike^_^
well Echelon is real , and I'd imagine they have even better stuff now, that hasn't come out in the public light

with all this "terror" goin on, you'd think they'd be trying to improve these systems

http://fly.hiwaay.net/~pspoole/echelon.html
et's daddy
ok i dont think this is a secret (as ive seen TV shows on the subject)

what youre talking about is the job of the office of the US gov. known as the NSA

i cant say that they monitor all correspondence but they do monitor a great deal

they have super computers set up to monitor phone calls for 'key' words

as for organized crime, it has evolved over the years

meaning the criminals are all not as stupid as the used to be

john gotti never telephoned sammy gravano and told him to whack someone

im sure they have a code they use while on an open line

and to anyone with enough money and limited knowledge you can purchase a device that will let you operate a secure encrypted telephone line

WOW! Lots of speculation...but do you really want to know?

Yes, the government listens to your calls, checks your email, follows you and this is worldwide and Its getting worse.

Camera everywhere, they want to know...what you are doing!

Have you heard of "On-star"? On-star is a form of the mark of the beast. They can track you (as long as your in your car) no matter where you go...

Sure, in a sense there may be some positive effects...you get stuck, in an accident, etc. just push a button and they got you, they know exactly where you are, etc.

Also, I believe this is in Germany, a store is now doing, I believe thumb prints...this the mark of the beast.

Retina scans...mark of the beast.

Have you heard about Digital Angel? They are located in Florida, they have come out with a chip, the size of rice, that they implant just under your skin. This chip is just like those chips that vets put in your dog/cats and they can put your entire info in it. If your pet is lost all they have to do is scan for the chip and guess what...if it beeps, your information comes up for them to see, same for humans.

This chip is worldwide, they have been placing this chip in england, china, some in the US. It is voluntary now...but according to the bible....will be mandatory later.

Whatever you do, DO NOT GET THIS CLIP FOR YOU OR YOUR PET! You will be dammed immediately! It's the mark of the beast.

Further, to my knowledge they that at least 3 supercomputers: england/britain, china area, US. This computer is so fast that it can do trillions of calculations in seconds. Mark of the beast.

Check this out....http://www.jvim.com

Go to their Updated Daily News....it's right on their home page. You will be shocked....

They take headlines from around the world and match them with whats in the bible.

Oh and another form of mark of the beast is....did you know that target and walmart put little tracking devices on all their merchandise and can track their items in the store. But as soon as you leave with item it stops.

They are looking for a way to extend the tracking frequency passed their doors to your house....By the way, I don't shop there.

So? You have no problem with strangers reading your post on the forum, so why be any more concerned if the government was?
Lord Umbarger
The systems name was mentioned in a previous post. It is called Eschelon. It is used by more than just the U.S. I remember that Australia is one of the several using it. What it is supposed to do is listen to an unG-dly number of messages and then redflag the ones that use certain keywords. If your phne call includes one of the keywords then an actual human listens to the message to determine it's content and intent.

It is still possible to fool the system though if you don't use any of the key words. For instance, "The chair is against the wall" could be used as code for "I'd like another beer". If beer was one of the keywords, the message could still be transmitted "under the radar" and not be detected.

I should probably shut up here before I give some idiot a stupid idea.

The chips that Wal-mart and Target are using are called RFiD tags. (Radio Frequency Identification). Supposedly they are only on large bulk items for the moment. They do invision that, in the future, you'd have one under your skin and after you did your shopping you'd just walk out of the store. The store itself would have sensers that pick up your RFiD and tell it who you are. Your purchases would have thier own individual RFiD tags to tell the store what you're taking out. Then, the store would just debit your bank account. Pretty sweet, if not for the "Mark of the Beast" conotation.

I don;t think that all of this could come about just because of the current administration. They really wuoldn't have had the time to put it all together.
It's more likely that each administration has added a brick here and there until now we see the wall. One certainly laid more bricks than the others, and one has definately laid the most recent bricks but, no one president can be held totally responcible. And I doubt that the wall is finished.
It will also take more than one president to take the wall down too, if it's ever so desired by enough people.

As far as doubting what the government would or would not do, I have no doubts that they are doing everything imaginable and have secret technologies that would boggle our minds. I am confident they know the day and hour you started your potty training and they aren't going to stop with that. Remember, now they want to put a chip in clothing products that would also record your credit card information at the time of purchase so that you can be traced to wherever you are. Big Brother? No, this is Giant Brother.

...the system intercepts 3 billion communications daily, clients must know which intercepted communications to monitor before they can realize an intelligence advantage. For example, in the months before the September 11 attacks on the United States, signal intelligence produced by ECHELON developed considerable "chatter", or snippets of dialogue, that suggested some sort of attack was imminent. Analysts were unable to pin down the details of the attack, though, because operatives planning the attack relied largely on non-electronic communications. Even overt signals, such as a dramatic increase in futures trading related to companies that were to be damaged in the attack, failed to alert analysts, apparently because they did not know where within the daily deluge of electronic messages to look, much less how to connect the dots pointing to a specific attack.

Exactly! Agree 100%!!

When I first started "becoming aware" about this stuff, I blamed it all on Clinton. Then I saw Carter added bricks. Then I blamed "Liberals", but "Liberal" is just a co-opted term. Then, I blamed "Socialists" but no, I noticed there's some hard Right wingers just as involved voting for this stuff. And then why do they vote that way? For that specific agenda, or because they believe they're actually doing what they think is right, without concern or belief in a concequence.

FDR, LBJ, Ford... Lincoln... Not ALL of them, but enough... and then, you look at *Congress* and it gets Really smarmy. Should be a list of Senator Wives, Ex-Wives, and their business relationships. It gets Super Smarmy following history...

It's up to the people. At one time we had a semi-ok press we could turn to, but not even that anymore. If it wasn't for radio and bloggers and the internet, Everyone would believe the lies the mainstream media peddle. We as a nation without a doubt would have fallen for Kerry's "refined" poppycock.

I think it seems highly unlikely that the government could do this, it seems a little too farfetched. Plus they would be able to stop the majority of domestic terrorism and criminal acts.

lol, the agency that monitors, all types of communication is called the NSA. and believe me they can, have and continue to do this. better watch out what you say lol

The trick is to to keep under the wire, lol, hide in plain sight and try not to bring their attention to yourself.

Lord Umbarger
Celumnaz brings up another good point. No president could do it on his own. The laws of hte U.S. have to go through the Congress, then the Supreme Court. All these people hvae to be in favor of the new law. (In the case of Congress, a majority).

I don't know that it would be possible to get all these different people to openly and willing agree on any one thing at any one time. But, if you could get a little here now. Lose this freedom for safety. Then a little there later. I don't mind if they're watching, I'm not doing anything wrong. Let's set up an oraganisation to handle this for us. They need to be able to do this to catch terrorists. No rush, we've got time. Let's give them a little more leeway act without our oversight. Eventually something congeals. And by then, you're in it and deep.

What about all that stuff that Wal-Mart is on the verge of doing with RFiD tags? Who cares, it's just a company. It'll help them develop items that I might want to buy. True, now what happens when someone takes over the government and nationalizes all the big businesses? All that info that Wally-world has on you is now in the hands of someone else, maybe someone evil. They now have a record of you buying shotgun shells, you must be a troublemaker. Then you wake up "missing". You have been effectively "disappeared".

I think that they have the technology to search the net at all times
but I think that there computers look for keywords to be used in
succession. I wont say them as I do not want the FBI at my door. lol
But I do believe there are people who's job it is to post on forms "anti
government ones" and relay info to higher ups.

Right, that's why most of the major terrorist attacks are done by intelegance agencies in our own government and then blamed on a group they want to demonize.

I wish I was the leader of some of the skeptics in this board. I would lie to them all the time, and being gullable as they are and trusting of there government, I would have so much fun being a dictator. I would tell them that black is white, and blue is red. Then I would say who do you believe, your infalable government or your lying eyes. Some of the boot lickers would say they believe the government no matter what. You know who you are.

Like it or not, Scoobysnack is back in the house.

I got banned for 30 days. This is my first day I'm allowed to post on the board. The conspiracy section will get interesting once again. Prepare yourselves for the great awakening.

Pumpkin_Blythe, that is the funniest and sickest avatar I have seen yet. I don't know what to think of it. If I say more, I risk getting banned again.

This is like the food chain, they monitor us, some aliens monitor them and us and God monitors everything.. I think so, I can't think much beyond God.

Interesting discussion. About eight years ago I worked in the part of Qwest Communications that handled wire-tap orders for law enforcement. I was one of the order writers, and SDC for you Telco types, that wrote the actual service order for the taps. It was good business for the company in some ways because the actual 'taps' were relatively easily installed and removed; generally we only had them in for a few days and we got to bill the locals or the Feds for a whole month.

Now its my understanding that the Feds don't need the traditional wire-taps anymore. They have nifty technologies like 'Carnivore' and 'Magic Lantern'. I read somewhere that the only problem with 'Carnivore' was that it captured so much information that it was difficult for the FBI to sift through it all.

Now 'Magic Lantern' is a lot more spooky in some ways. It is apparently a sort of keystroke capture device. Since it captures all the users keystrokes as they type them, before a computer encrypts them, it effectively defeats a lot of security devices. The real mystery there has been how they get 'Magic Lantern' on your computer. I did hear that they have to get physical access to the targetted computer but I've also heard that they created a worm that allows the program to be migrated through E-mail.

One of our ministers wants all UK citizens to have thier dna on file.

For what purpose?

I don't believe electronic surveillance is limited to the United States. As I understand it quite a few nations have invested in the capability under the guise of drug enforcement or ant-terrorism. The basis switching systems at the heart of almost all telephony lend themselves to domestic surveillance.

It doesn't surprise me. We are living in a Big Brother world. We are monitored everywhere we go on the High Street; satellites can zoom in on our properties to such a degree that they may be able to tell what colour shoes you are wearing.

Even as a children in the 70's; we knew that we would be adults in a Big Brother world. It was on the cards even then. They are even talking about microchipping people and in some places people have been chosen to be microchipped to get into certain businesses. We don't know what the satellites can pick up, but there are so many satellites up there, we don't know what their capabilities are.

It is, unfortunately, an inevitable evolution of the justice system. Surveillance has always been a part of law enforcement, and as civilization grows and expands, so must surveillance grow and expand, or our peace-keepers will be left blind.

Thats why they use computers and software programs to do it more efficiently...every form of electromagnetic communication is vacuumed for later analysis using special programs to produce red flags. If enough red flags are raised then that would warrant further inspection from an intelligence agent. Ill go a step further and tell you I have seen research done by Darpa leaders into mind control experiments using elecromagnetic waves at certain frequencies to induce behavioral pattern changes in individuals for furthering goals for use on populations. Look on every corner and street...you will see a cell phone tower. You live in an electromagntic prison where everything you say think and do is monitored. All of this nazi crap does not stop terrorism folks...it takes away from life. Certain forms of monitoring I support but those safe thresholds were passed more than 30 years ago.
