The world WILL NOT end.
The Mayan Calendar is NOT linear like most people talk about it; it is a circular calender, going through cycles of birth, death, and rebirth. . . .
*sigh*

I think I'll dance a little jig when the end of the world doesn't happen in 2012.. Yeah that's what I'll do. They'll call me Mr. Bojangles and I'll dance.

How many times is this discussion brought up
It's just the end of their calendar and nothing more. However, they were smart people so I think something will happen around that time, like a polar shift, which wouldn't affect us too bad. If anything happens I think it would be for the better since the Mayans were very spiritual beings if Dec. 21st, 2012 holds any meaning.
I agree with some people on here that things could get worse down the road with the direction society is heading but that could happen anytime.
The only thing to do is live life each and everyday and stop bringing this stuff up

Hi all,
Hope everyone had a good festive period

For some reason I had 2006 as well as 2012 marked down for events.
I guess whether it is a new begininng or the end of the World, the thing that worries me most is that someone, somewhere comes up with the idea of doing something stupid to make a sell fulfilling prophecy (sp?) for want of a phrase.
It could be possible that someone out there has decided that 2006/ 2012 is the end the world and they are the ones chosen to fulfill this task.
I enjoyed the book by Graham Hancock, and awaited the (1999?) 2000 alignment of the planets which was meant to bring an end to everything.
I have only started to read the Maya briefly and certainly would appreciate any direction to further books either of relevance or specifically the Maya.
regards,

SpRoflmao.
I have posted in so many threads about this.. still, people keep believing.
It's all stupid, the Mayans were smart, but not smart enough to predict the end of the world.
All it is, is the end of the god damn calendar
The Earth survived the `divine event' more than 150,000 times already!
What's more, the last six times the phenomenon occurred, modern humans already walked the planet. Obviously, it didn't have much effect on our spiritual lives. It certainly didn't stop the Spanish from butchering some 800,000 Maya's in the sixteenth century.

I know EXACTLY what will happen in 2012!... We'll run out of gas! or at least we will notice we are running out of oil( the world's gas gage will all of the sudden be on empty), there will be a shortage of gas and prices will rise exponentially, severely slowing travel and severely damaging world economy, the era where there where 1st worlds will end, 1st will become second, and second will become third.. and poop will be turned into bio diesel, but it will take some time to convert that much poop into usable oil :/.. Ok ok I rant, I kid, oil wont run out.. or will it?

After going through many end of the world dates in my lifetime, I have come to the conclusion that I will live each day as I normally would.
1987, 1991, 1997, 2000, 2001...there are more, but it seems like every few years someone decides that the end of the world is coming in some form or another.
Sooner or later one of those days will be my last day, although my guess would be that it will be a good old fashioned death like everyone before me, and not an end of the world for everyone.
I can only hope that I have done a good job here while I have had the chance and helped as many lives as I possibly can until I no longer have the opportunity to do so.
I don't think worrying about what may or may not happen 6 years from now is going to do anyone any good...do the best you can everyday; let December 12, 2012 be just another day that you are trying to do your best.

This oil peak event gets me quite scared. It's not some supernatural theory of the world ending, but rather a "feet on the ground" reality that could happen in the near future. Remember, oil is not only energy or gasoline. We live currently with 500 000 products made from oil. Our worldwide economy depends primarily on oil. If nothing is done to replace the dependency, US will continue to make wars to guarantee its oil supply, and then China too, and then Europe too, and etc etc...
Just google "Oil Peak" or "Hubbert Peak". You'll get some nice thought-provoking information on that...

Crossreferencing with the spiritualists on that 2012 date will reveal a differentfuture. They work with the evolving dna and the apparently invisible change in the forces of nature, i.e. matter becoming Lighter. But that is the problem. since the greeks, the one science was split into astronomy, mathematics, geometry, writing, healing, arts, etc etc. so no scientific field of investigation today, holds the complete picture. One has to cross all fields to gain anything close to what the mayan calendar and works of the mayans actually meant.
I believe it is a time of destruction and renewal, but it begagn already and we are gradually changing. so by 2011, much will be changed, perhaps before then many would haveleft this earth. the atmosphere is changing man. things are changing. Meditate and you will know this. prayer or whatever you like, but prophetic writings are only clues and perhaps not the whole story, just as the book of Revelations detils mainly with the destruction, but not much of what follows . So how can we tell what the calendar really means.

I've seen alot of stuff about 2012 over the years, and I've decided not to worry about it and just fly by the seat of my pants. Also I've seen on Discovery that the year 2012 is only an estimation, and that the prophecy could range from around 1960-2050. . . the year 2012 is just the interpretation from the most renown professor. Though I could be wrong.

December 21st 2012 is the correct date. This date is the Winter Soltice and that is why it falls on this day. From my research the belief is that this is when we finish the current Iron Age we are in and begin the Golden age.
The Iron Age is a time that is suppose to be a time of various forms of chaos to some degree. For example, wars, famine, violence, and all sorts of things that we see going on today. Also during this time, time should feel as if it is flying by. It is suppose to seem as if we never have time to get anything done and that all the sudden we realize we are 35 years old!!
To look at how this is explained, imagine a spear with two funnels connected in the middle, one opening at the top of the spear and the other opening at the bottom. Imagine energy waves spiraling around this spear from bottom to top and then entering the top funnel. At this time the energy waves take longer to make the complete cycle around the spear. Once it enters the funnel, the waves begin to speed up. Towards the bottom half of the top funnel the waves are beginning to move very rapidly. It is this bottom part of the funnel to the point it reaches the lower funnel that represents the Iron Age. The point at where they connect will happen at December 21, 2012. This is where we enter the Golden Age and those waves begin to slow down and the chaos begins to lessen.
Look at the way the world is today and the ever increasing chaos that you see and how time is in relation to our lives. Over the past 100 years you can see the increase in a dramatic fashion. The peak of this chaos is yet to come in the next 6 years which is obvious to see coming the way the weather, politics, wars, rumors of war, et cetera continue to increase. This does not necessarily mean the end of the world, more just as what others have said, it is a changing into a new age.
One thing that has spawned in the past 20 years as result of this is the ideas of the Davinci Code and the holy grail or the idea that Jesus Christ did not die on the cross and has a bloodline. This revalation could send shockwaves through many of the religions and create problems.
Needless to say, the next 6 years will be interesting.

Our sun is expected to become a red giant in about six billion years. It will become sufficiently large to engulf the current orbits of the solar system's inner planets, including Earth. That my friends is the end of the world.
