I heard that if you use a helmet when your on a motorcycle you only have a 29% chance of survival.

At least it's something you know, because I have seen some serious accidents, so please wear your helmets, thats what I tell my hubbie all the time and he does not understand angry.gif , but I have also seen that some guys do have their helmets on, when an accident happens and believe me, it has saved their lifes!

It may save your life, but it will 100% of the time mess up your hair. tongue.gif

yup... and we cant have messy hair now can we?

no seriously everyone should wear a helmet. Its a Law here in Massachusettes

Never gave me messy hair.

Although with my dirtbiking awhile ago it did save my life a few times. I was going down a dirt path and hit something. My bike stopped, I flew over the handlebars onto my head in the middle of the road, over onto my feet and flipped over on my head and onto my back again. If my head wasn't supported like it was, I would have either broken my neck or gotten a really bad concussion. mellow.gif

My cousin was in a horrific motorcycle accident. His helmet was actually cracked in half from being hit by a truck. He had a slight concussion. If he hadn't been wearing a helmet, his head would have disintegrated.
distortedpandy
yea...they just passed the law here last year that you didn't have to wear one...

I look at these people and and shake my head...why? b/c I'm the one that has to put these people back together...

once I seen this dude riding his motorcycle, no lid...smoking a cig...and talking on a cell... huh.gif wtf?

This is similar to wearing a seatbelt in a car, I saw something on tv a few days ago about car crashes with crash dummy's. I couldn't believe some of the things which happened to the dummy's. If an adult has a child/baby sitting on their lap under one seatbelt than the child normally suffocates, or if their's no seatbelt on at all than the child will smash the windshield with their head. There was loads of other things but I won't go into it. But it was disturbing dontgetit.gif

I remember this accident where the head of a motorcycle accident was totally unmarked. There was not a single scratch, and I'm sure that he could have walked away from the whole thing if his torso wasn't torn from the rest of his body. grin2.gif

^Eh? o.O

Did you actually see it?

Some people just don't know that the pavement is harder than your face when you hit it at 50 mph..
The Skeptic Eric Raven
I have one. I have to admit I don't wear a helmet around my neighboord or close by. If I get on a highway or interstate I always wear one.

Isn't it always? rofl.gif

I have an uncle who raced motorcycles for years & years. He never once thought twice about putting on the ole brain bucket. no.gif This was before it was mandated.

Sure it might not save your life, but it can prevent a small accident from becoming more serious. I remember years ago a bicyclist who didn't wear a helmet & their tire slipped in to a grate of a rain gutter. They went over the handles & gave themselves a very serious concussion. blink.gif A helmet might have prevented that. Yes, that happened to be a bicycle, but the same thing has happened on motorcycles I'm sure.

While a helmet won't save you if you crash into a semi, but it might if you have to swerve all the sudden & loose control of your motorcycle. It's the law here in CA & I have a tendency to agree with it.

In Montana, we do not have a helmet law.
A couple months ago, a friend of mine was a passenger on a motorcycle traveling at high speeds on the interstate. Neither one wore a helmet. She fell asleep, and fell off the motorcycle. She survived, amazingly enough, but has severe road rash, the few broken bones, and her face was destroyed.

Well I think it's been 4 years since I saw this accident with one friend of my hubbie, I was with my hubbie riding on back and of course none of us had a helmet, we were about 15 riders that day, so this guy wanted to take the lead, he said he knew the road where we were going to, and so he did, at 120 hpm, he drove thru the curve and that was the last we saw of him, we were on back of him, the bike flew so far away and the sad thing is that he hit a fire hydrant with his head and of course he didin't have a helmet, we went running to see if he was o.k. he was gasping for air, a few minutes later he died crying.gif . Everybody was crying the people from the near houses came running and there was a nurse who told us, he was gone, ambulance came, we all went to the hospital, the toughest thing was to tell our friend's parents he had died...

Well, maybe they think that as you pick up speed, the pavement gets softer?
sweet_butterfly
yea right, softer? I don't think so, just ask some girls that were riding with these guys, one of the girls hit the medium so hard, she broke her jaw, a few teeth, I think my hubbie told me that she needed plastic surgery, she was really messed up...

The other one only broke a few bones....

I don't ride a motorcycle. But I once had an accident on my bicycle. I don't really know how it happened, but one moment I was riding down the road, the next I was heading headfirst into the concrete.

I stood up dazed and confused. My helmet was cracked cleanly in two. I can't help but think if I didn't have a helmet, my head would be cracked cleanly in two.

As for motorcycles, a major accident and you've got no hope really. You're not protected in a shell like you are in a car. But a helmet will help from keeping a minor accident into a major disaster.
