Me and my buddies floated the potomac river on memorial day, drank a few beer and did some fishing, i caught four but the strange thing was we saw like at least 30 dead carps, then saw in the paper the next day that there must be something wrong with the water, still had a blast though, some of my friends went swimming though hope they don't get some sorta rash or something

According to my 2006 IGFA listings, the world record (hook-and-line) white crappie is 5 pounds 3 oz and black crappie is (tie) 4 pounds 8 oz.
Your "7 or 8" lb crappie is nothing more than a fish story

15 lb bass, eh? Beat my personal best by 2 lbs. Well, you live in Florida. You have the advantage.
This Saturday, I went fly-fishing in a lake for bass a half hour away from my home. I came home disheartened. I lost my two best bass flies, One to a lily pad and the other to a bass weighing about 6 lbs.

When it is dry the oxygen is sapped from the water, and it kills fish. Did that in 2 lakes here last year.

What a coincedence, I was just goung to post my fishing story. Today, me and my friend went fishing at a local lake. We go catfishing for channels there. So we set up 3 rods in ( 2 of mine with nightcrawler, his with a bluegill fillet) 3 rod holders. We were fishing of a point so we went fishing for bass on the other side of the point. About 2 hours in, I hear a ringing sound ( we put fishing bells on our rods to detect bites). I spin around in time to see a rod going crazy. I tell my friend his rod has a fish on. As soon as the words leave my mouth, I see his rod go crashing into the water. We run as fast as possible, thinking he lost his rod. When we get there, we see the metal rod holder bent and the ord nowhere to be seen. Then my friend points out the rod is wedged inbetween two big rocks. He jumps in and grabs the rod.
After a 15 minute fight, he lands a nice 29" 15 lb channel cat. The girth on this fish is enormous...Over 20 inches! We let the fish go after snapping some pics.
When we develop the film, I'll post the pictures...including the 27" I caught in May.
BTW, cut bluegill and shad make great catfish bait

If you use a not so well known lure known as a Kelly Striper, preferably the purple and white ones, you will HAMMER large mouth bass. I love fishing and that's my favorite lure, aside from Gary Yamamoto's.

Depends on what waters you are fishing...Sometimes they are only attacking buzzbaits and topwater lures...Other times a spinnerbait....Crankbait...etc.
Like I said, it depends.

There is a huge difference in what kind of float you use...Never use the conventional round bobbers...Try to use pencil floats and wagglers...they are the best..
Use small hooks, and KNOW how to balance pencil floats and wagglers...The majoriy of the float should be underwater. Use small split shots.
Also remeber to use a light spinning rod with 4-6 lb mono...
That's your key to catching big panfish.

The float should just be so that the tip is just over the waterline...That way the panfish don't feel any resistance, and you see more bites...

Yeh I have caught a couple of Threadfin Salmon in Darwin, and they are a good fighting fish, espesially on a light rod like mine. They jump out of the water a lot and put on a good show. I haven't any photos sorry. Coral Trout are the go though, if it is a good eating fish your looking for, and they grow to 20 kg too. I haven't seen one that big, but I have seen a few caught around 10- 12 kg, nice looking fish.

frogfish,
i've been trout flyfishing @ a local river for last three days and everytime I get a strike and raise the rod to set the hook...it never does. What gives? I've had like 8 strikes and I can feel the fish for like 2 seconds then the line just gets loose and I lose the fish with my fly still on! Any advice? Should I wait longer to set the hook or set it as soon as I see/feel the fish on? Maybe I'm raising the rod/setting the hook too long or hard? I'ma gonna try again today though...
thanks

When you set the hook, try stripping
in some line AS you raise your rod tip. Remeber to give a good, solid hookset. If that doesn't work, wait a little longer when you get a strike, then try what I said.
Good fishing to you!

My claim to fame as far as fishing goes is that my Grandfather invented two fishing flies (called the Hallier Killer and the Hallier Guinea - both featuring guinea fowl feathers) a while back that are still in use today. Am busy looking for photos, and will post them up if I am successful. The flies were for trout and bass, mainly I hear.

As a kid living in San Antonio,we would drive up to Borene or more often Blanco State Park in the town of Blanco and my dad and brother would fish while us girls would go walking around, though sometimes my sister would fish too. We caught mainly sunfish ,perch and a few others, no 4 pounders, but nice sized fish my dad would clean and cook for us when we got home.lot of people around here go to Canyon or Calaveras Lakes or Choke Canyon State Park south of here or up to Lake LBJ (Lyndon Baines Johnson)
near Marble Falls or some of the other lakes and parks around here.
We used to have some good times then.

I don't like charters that much (except my friend's boat, as all we have to pay is half the gas) so we fish the rivers...Mainly the Pere Marquette, The Little Manistee and the Manistee (Tippy Dam).
We're going up to only Tippy dam this year. My friend's dad fishes there every year and limits out with a friend withing a couple hours. They hook maybe 70 fish a day.

The fish we catch range in the 30-40 inches...The largest being a 39 incher caught off Tippy Dam...I swear I had a 45+ inch one. It spooled my whole real (300 yds +) of line in 1 minute...It never stopped running, and with a twang, it snapped the line.
