The fish we catch range in the 30-40 inches...The largest being a 39 incher caught off Tippy Dam...I swear I had a 45+ inch one. It spooled my whole real (300 yds +) of line in 1 minute...It never stopped running, and with a twang, it snapped the line.
Good luck and post your pics!
I was only able to stay out for an hour but I did get one and land it but the SOB snapped my 9' med. St.Croix Avid in half..... I have to send it in for a new one.
BTW I did get a few pics, but I have to upload them from my camera. You shoulda seen me pull in this King with half a rod....

When I was younger, I used to fish. With my dad, my sisters, & my stepmom together as a family. I would never catch a fish no matter how hard I tired. It was always fun though, & I do like to fish. It's fun to spend time with my dad that way.

then you should ask him to go fishing again. I go with my dad and brother, its not so much about the fish, but spending time with them and enjoying the beauty nature has.

If you haven't noticed yet, yes I do

For trout, I normally aim for rainbows, browns, and steelies. My friend takes me to Wymoning every year where we catch cutthroats

Two of the salmon above were caught on a fly ( 1 on a salmon drake, the other on a egg-sucking leech) I also lost two on a Manistee Hex pattern.

That's the point of anything outdoors. Catching fish or downing a trophy buck are just bonuses

I have been priveleged to have met and know many great fishing/hunting buddies.

True. But we used to be so close then. Now we spend our "time together" another way. I brough up the topic of fishing again. And he said he'll like to go fishing again. Maybe I'll catch something this time. We used to fish near our house which had the water nearby.

Actually, I am not agree with the killing animals for pleasure. Huntong, fishing, waling. Horrible. I dont find any need in killing animals.

I'd like to give fishing a go, as I live close to the River Mersey. But knowing my luck I'd somehow hook a jellyfish and manage to fling it onto my head. Or fall into a swarm of jellyfish. Plus, the closest things I have to a fishing rod are string tied to a pole and a pond-dipping net. PLUS fishing rods cost too much, just like everything else I want.
I COULD go crab-fishing though, since all you need is a piece of string, a bucket full of water and some bacon. But I'd end up catching a Japanese spider crab which would kinda freak me out (no, you may NOT ask why there would be a Japanese spider crab in the Mersey, when they're more suited to life on the Japanese archipelago).
QUOTE

You don't have to kill them. You can just take a quick photo and release them. Btw, frogfish, if I find that you kill the fish, I shall hunt you down and...give you a good talking to.

Fishing is one of my favorite hobbies. I enjoy it much more than hunting, reading, or even playing them video-games.
I have never kept a fish. Unfortunately some fish have died, I get angry about it when it happens. I blame myself, I blame the fish, and I would blame anything that could even be connected.
I practice Catch & Release, taught to me by my grandfather. My philosophy is that if the fish is big this year, next year it will be even bigger. I also like to tell the fish to go and find their daddy fish and granddaddy fish.

I fish for the thrill of the catch not the pride of keeping it. I don't even bring a camera, the less time the fish spends out of the water the better for all.

I am the same way, I release most of my fish. But we know families that could use the food, we keep trout, bass or perch for them to eat, as well as give them vension. I do not hunt much anymore, but i fish almost everyday.

Ok, no offence meant. Why is it that every time I post late(ish) at night I post something stupid...?
Besides, fish is nice. I just don't think I'd be able to kill the things. I'll just leave it to the trawlers, so they can kill dolphins and throw about half the catch back again.

I think for me it's more the getting away from people (Montana, Idaho, Washington). Spring fishing (small creeks) is my forte', but I've been known many times to not bother to put a fly on, and just sit there under a tree and let the little buggers snap at the knot.

Because I am a hunter. Because I have taken hunter safety classes, and qualified for a hunting license. I guess that you are not in a country where hunting is popular...
First, millions of dollars spend by hunters and anglers go purely to conservation and the fisheries and game departments. The majority also belong to clubs that advocate fair chase and conservation. We also know our limits, and want to protect our wild more than other groups. Just look at SCI, IHEA, B.A.S.S. and IGFA.
As always, there are a few exceptions, those that spoil it for the rest of us.

i plan on doing some ice fishing this year, never done it before, no one i knew wanted to sit around a hole in the ice on a lake freezing their butts off drinking whiskey. I thought i'd give it a try though.
as far as having a gun, i grew up around them, but they were not toys, me and my brother were taught how to use and handle a gun with responsiblity. We were taught to respect nature, not abuse it. Through hunting and fishing i gained a much greater love and respect for the outdoors.

It can be fun. Even when deathly cold. I've already been out on the lake at -40 with windchill and was having a blast.
A space heater and/or a small shelter will help greatly. Make sure your blades are sharp as razors to for cutting through the ice... Nothing sucks more then getting out there and killing youself on cutting holes over and over for moving and such with a dull blade.

I can't stand catching sheepshead, we always pick them up while fishing for walleye or LMB its like pulling in a log, but they do fight some of the time.
I've been doing some fly fishing for trout lately, but the water is so high on all of the streams we're fishing. Trout season is closed here, but there are a few streams that have about 10 miles catch and release all year, but they are all raging! a stream i like to fish is at perfect height and temp, but its closed! ahhhh
