Oh yes, they do put up a good fight.

You want reasons?
1. Its a great way to bond with friends and family
2. Spend time outdoors
3. It's the most damn fun sport. Hard fighting fish+light tackle=LOADS OF FUN
4. Conservation
5. Food

I bet most anglers are better conservationists than you'll ever be.

? A rod, dangling in a lake catching little fish..wow, big mighty men.

I laugh when fishermen say things like "OOOOh yeah that one put up a real good fight" when really they're holding a tiny little fish!

Oh, you definitely don't know anything. Here's a hint, KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT so you don't look like an idiot. You sure look like one big fool to me.
You don't have the slightest clue what fishing is.

Let's see you try to catch one of these, I bet you couldn't:

And for the sensible people, here's a photo album of my best catches over the past 3 years, from most recent to least.

I still have one roll of film left to develop from over the summer. I'll be sure to add it and let Y'all know.
The pics with me with glasses are from 2003. Everything else is after. Keep an' eye on this thread through 2007 for some monster fish!
frogfish
I don't have the trout on this album because they're stored on a different computer. I'll add them later.
Ciraxis

Thanks I'll bring the beers! Actually looks like fun. You know looking at it from another angle- I think I've changed my mind about fishing after all.

The next step is to go aboard one of the topless charters in Hawai'i or FL. tongue.gif

Oh yes sir.

I have a pond next to my house, but not many species of fish in it. We have largemouth bass, bluegill, minnows, and several sunfish species.
frogfish
I wouldn't call minnows a game fish mellow.gif

No, I'm just saying that I have a few species with sunfish in their common name. I wasn't referring to their family history. I just added the minnows to the list because I don't have much to account for and wanted to list all of the fish species (I'm attempting to convince the pond owner to get a group of bowfin.)

On another note, my grandfather once caught a pretty fair-sized great hammerhead.
frogfish
We catch sharks in Myrtle Beach and Florida all the time. They get quite annoying. We catch bonnetheads in both places, and sand sharks in Myrtle Beach.

My friends dad caught a 9 foot hammerhead when fishing with us.

I can't believe we let this thread fall to the second page!

Anyways, i went fly fishing yesterday with my dad, only one fish, nice little brown, water was pretty cold though. I ike fishing the stream here this time of year, but man have you ever got to work for them! I did almost step on one, can I count that one?
frogfish
Very nice Ciraxis...people are nailing the browns and bows good on the Farmington in CT...The average fish is going 16 inches.
Ciraxis
it was beautiful here yesterday, it was around 50F, not bad for the first of the year, and no snow on the ground either! I'm hoping to go out again this weekend. I need to tie some more wolly buggers when i get home, thats what they seem to like this time of year.
frogfish
You should take a trip to the Salmon River...I heard the steel are pretty thick up there.
Ciraxis
yup! i'm going out with my brother on a stream off the salmon, i've just got to pick up a new reel for my uncles old 8/9 weight fly rod, we should be going in a few weeks, he has a friend that lets him know when they come up this stream. I guess they head up this stream the first two or three weeks of Jan. I will bring a camera!
caboose :)
just wonderin if there is anyone that enjoyes fishing in alaska as much as i do gunsmilie.gif
frogfish
Well, there's a fishing thread already but....

Where do you fish? I only fish for salmon up in BC and Alaska, and I fished with a bunch of great soldiers stationed up in Alaska called the Salmon Slayers. How often do you fish up there?
Lottie
caboose original.gif, I have merged your thread with this one. thumbsup.gif

Hearing reports from CT Fisherman...spawn is always working, and so are wooly buggers...Here is a link to some SR reports.

it's all the Steelhead reports.
Ciraxis
Well, I should be off to buy my new reel in a few days. I tied some wolly buggers last night in brown and olive, I'm going to tie some more tonight and I need to make a few black ones. I just started tying my own flies, i really enjoy it. It helps past the winter days. You tie any of your own?
frogfish
nah...I don't tie any flies. I do however recieve some free flies from my friends on the North American Fisherman BB.
Ciraxis
well when I get better at it i'll send you some, just let me know what you would like. I finished tying my wolly buggers last night, not bad for a guy just starting! I say that, but I'll get on the stream and the whole thing will unravel!
frogfish

Lol, it happens to all beginners...

thanks for the offer, Ciraxis!

Hey frogfish, something you said in another thread got me thinking, do you or does anyone else here have a favorite lure, fly or bait? Do you have a go to or secret lure? I'll have to go find a picture of mine, but its the lure I use on this one lake, and I can catch fish all day on it, while the guys next to me won't
frogfish
Hmmm, that's a tough question. For me, I really don't have a secret bait or lure. I adapt to the waters I fish; I change tactics based on the conditions. Sometimes I'm throwing topwater lures...Other times I'm slow rolling spinners. Maybe I'm burning a crankbait here, or jigging a plastic worm there.

I'd have to say though, for a sure-fire "catch-all", nothing beats the classic worm or shiner/minnow under a float. yes.gif

My motto is there is no secret lure, but there is a secret tactic original.gif No lure or bait can catch them all the time.
dantheman2435
Good news fellas, i'm going ice fishing fairly soon! Woohoo!
frogfish
Good news, dantetheman!

There's no ice here to go ice fishing...it's Michigan! ohmy.gif
dantheman2435
Darn. That's no good.
frogfish
Steelhead is my best bet now...
Darkwind
I live near salt water, so that is what I fish. It is snook season now. I like to go out a night but it has gotten rather dangerest around here with all the crime. I go out and sit in the bank of the Imperial River. I don't catch much but I mostly just enjoy being outside and the river. Some times I see otters and manitees.
frogfish
Snook are fun fish to catch yes.gif
Ciraxis
The weather was perfect here this weekend, it was 60F! and sunny, but the bad news is, it rained heavy the night before, so both saturday and sunday all of our local trout streams were muddy and way too high! It did not stop me from going out to them just to check. sunday I pulled out my fly rod had too solid hits in this one pool I like, but never hooked them, I only had about 20 minutes to fish, so I left after that. oh well
caboose :)
I caught an 40 lb octopuss while halibut fishing, up in alaska, but while we were weighing it the octopuss griped onto the side, and gradually moved down towards the prapeller draging four grown men with him. They had to let go or risk falling into the water. that was a great fishing day. gunsmilie.gif
frogfish
Nice reports/stories guys...Still waiting to hit some steel here...
caboose :)
i wish it was summer and i was in homer, Alaska fishing for halibut. I'm Itchin for some fishin!!! thumbsup.gif gunsmilie.gif

I have to head up to Ft. Wainwright in Alaska sometime to fish with some of my buddies, the Salmon Slayers!

I'm looking into going out with a guide on tortola to fly fish for bonfish, i'm also going to St. Thomas, i might go out there too. The nice weather stop here today, we finally got lots of snow and cold!

1000 Posts whooo hoooo!

Congrats Ciraxis! When it comes to bonefish, nothing beats the Yucatan. It's also one of the best (read easiest) places to catch a permit on a fly.

Good luck buddy!
Ciraxis
Thanks! I'm hoping I can talk my wife into going with me! Its an 8 day cruise, I don't know if I can go that long without fishing! Maybe I'll troll off the end of the ship! if only to say I did it, "hey captin, can you kill the engine? Fish on!"

I can dream right?

You said your going to florida Frogfish?

When it comes to fishing, I go crazy over it!...O_o...I can fish all day and night long!..Living here in Australia I normally go Barramundi fishing to catch the really big ones! Of course I have the story about the big one that got away, I hook up a jew fish and i swear it was like nearly 2 meters long! My ultimate goal is buying a good boat so I can start some serious fishing...unfortunately boats are expensive so I'll have to wait for awhile...>_<...

Barramundi is a popular fish to catch here, I was wondering, where you live whats the most popular fish in your area?
caboose :)
thats neat frogfish, i i usualy go to shipcreek, close to fort richardson because about a 5 miles up stream is a salmon hatchery, its crazy fish on!! every where
the worst though is getting your line cought up in soe one elses across from you, but besides that its an ausome fishin spot.gunsmilie.gif
frogfish
Here in MI, salmon angling gets really crowded, and you can have a bunch of inconsiderate jerks ruin your day. But if you avoid them, you can get some good fish on here. Nont the 60 lb+ monsters in Alaska, but upto 30 lbs. The MI state record in 41.

Lost-soul, each gamefish here has their own following, but the most popular here in the states is probably the god ole' Largemouth Bass.

We have goliath grouper in Boca Grande, close to our winter home in FL. Never caught one though.

You should get a boat, it makes fishing a heckuva lot easier.

I would love a boat, sigh, but it breaks my bank account though....lol...for now i'm just gonna have to keep on dreaming....
frogfish
Well, how about a canoe or kayak? Those are cheaper, and you can add a trolling motor to some canoes/small boats. I have two kayaks, that I fish from all the time. It's really fun when you hook into a big fish!
