When I was a kid, I used to ask my dad why he went fishing as I thought it was boring, so he took me along one day and guess what????? I did catch something...the cold!! and still say IMO it's boring, but I can understand how a lot of men & women finding it intresting, as for me I too would rather be doing something else!!

It might seem boring BM, but in fact, it takes much patience and strategy. Each fish has a different technique in fishing. Sheepheads, drum, bullreds, trigger, croaker, flounder, all different.
frogfish
There is a difference between salmon fishing (in a river), panfish fishing, or off-shore fishing....Bass fishin is one of the most unique...

Every style has different paces....some very fast paced, while others slow
NME_locus
Hey has anyone heard of a Grundle/Grendle? Sorry geek.gif ..... They are freshwater. The are good fighting fish, and will eat anything like carp and mud catfish or channel cats
frogfish
Nope, never heard of them...
XSAS_Daughter
I like fishing in mull and scotland my dad and my brother go fishing alot I enjoy it but it usually rains when I go but that is supposed to be the best time to fish.
FLY SPITTA
This topic is making me sad lol I wish there was a place to fish out here... the only lake is gone now. But it was only Catfish.
frogfish
Find a new place...explore! Or go on a trip somewhere and fish...

Hehe, I saw a fishing-related thread, and thought I would ressurect this one original.gif
Let the mindless fishing ranting begin!

I went to Ft. Myers, FL 2005 over winter break, and the day before Christmas, I caught this 11 lb, 30 inch snook of a restaurant fishing for black drum/sheepshead. I was using 30 lb braid and a whole live shrimp abou 4 inches long on a size 5 Gamakatsu hook with a egg sinker.

I probably hooked and lost 7 BIG fish over the week...

I've never heard of catching carp with artificial lures in the first place original.gif
Catching Carp on artificials is a BLAST, you can only get them right around now when they school to spawn. 6# line 1/16oz Crappie jigs and spikes....

jigs still in his mouth

25#er, 26", its hard to tell on the tape measure cause he kept moving his tail so its not streached out all the way, 6# line.

WTF? Is that a Nile Perch?

Salmon fishing is my Favorite....Nothing better than hooking a fiesty 30 lb salmon in a clear, beautiful river, watching the breathtaking aerobatics and the bull-like runs, and trying to keep it away from fallen timber original.gif

What's your personal best Twisted?

Mine is a 400 lb Blue Marlin caught of Hawaii, followed by a 250 lb Yellowfin (Hawaii also), then a 180 lb Sailfish (FL), and various sharks I haven't weighed.

These fish were all released in the water, so no pictures sad.gif

LOVE FISHIN' caught my share and have never
used artifical lures.

Nice salmon FrogFish

Artificial lures are sooo much more fun than live bait...sometimes better too.

Walleye is the one freshwater fish in MI I have never caught. My parents have caught many, but for some reason, I always get skunked by them...or they break off around the trolling motor mad.gif

What's your personal best?

Very nice, Im going Marlin fishing in Nov. this year so well see what happens.

I only fished the ocean 2x and got AmberJack up tp 50# maybe alittle bigger.

My best in fresh water on Lake Michigan was a 34# King on 6# line spawn fishin on shore...

Fishing is an old hunt that has been going on forever! I adore fishing, especially in the ocean, i've caught two 38 pound white spring salmon in the same day! (don't mean to brag)

Yellowfin is a lot like Amberjack yes.gif I caught a lot of small amberjacks and snapper/grouper of SC.

My best is a 22 lb King in the Little Manistee River in MI...Along with various pike, bass, and such. I hooked into a monster catfish in the Tennesse river in TN...I swear it was at least 50...sadly, it broke off. It was at least 4 feet long.

Also, my Dad managed to hook into a gigantic Bluefin Tuna of NJ...I got to fight it for sometime, but he caught it...It tipped the scales at 500...

What I really want to do is to go Tarpon fishing and flats fishing off Panama, or Threadfin and Barramundi fishing off Australia.

Ahhh, Mexico...I would say Hawaii is the best for Marlin...Mexico is definitely a good Sailfish, Bonefish, Snook, and Tarpon fishery...Are you fishing the Gulf Coast?

I am a huge fly fisherman...One of my goals in life is to land a 200 lb tarpon on a fly yes.gif
Harks
G'day froggy mate, I thought I might throw in a few picks of mine . As fishing is as Aussie as drinking beer and kangaroo pie. Well when we can finds some bloody water anyway. Inland Australia is a fairly dry place, but there are billabongs through out the Topend with big fish and huge geckos.
Anyway the big fish got away and we stayed away from the oversized geckos, so we come home with our lives and some Barramundi too. tongue.gif
[attachmentid=25704]
Harks
But the good thing about Australia, is when you can not find water inland, we head for the coast. It doesn't mater which direction you go, you can always find the ocean, being an Island an all it is easy. tongue.gif

This little Spanish Mackerel was used as live bait for the big fish we caught.

Love fishing!! I am hopefully going this weekend. Speck's and Red's are running good this year here in SE Louisiana.

Yup the Gulf, I got 4 AmberJack when we were in cancun..

Sounds good, I woun't mind that myself...
frogfish
I would love to hook into a big Barramundi, Harks. Especially since their closest relative is one of my favorite fish to catch...the snook.

A pic of a snook I caught this winter..

Any big barramundi you have caught?

Nice fish Froggy, good colour too, my biggest barra was 72 cm, and I think it was in the centre of the photo I sent. Anyway that was years ago so maybe I should show you some more recent conquests over the elusive fish. tongue.gif
[attachmentid=25740]
This is a one I posted on Rouge photos, but I think it would be appreciated here more. This Red Bass 7kg, supposedly a none eating fish, but local PNG people eat them.
Harks
But wait there are plenty more where that comes from Froggy. tongue.gif [attachmentid=25741]
My mate Westy and I caught these two Flowery Cod up near the Kimberley's in north of Western Australia, at the same time. But we released both cause we did not need any more fish.

The red bass reminds me of the vermillion snapper and red grouper we have here in the States...I have some pictures of them, but they are in the camera. I will download them when i have the time and post them.

28 inch barramundi...nice. My snook was about the same size...32 inches.
