Where i am we had a bass tournement and i cauht a 3.6 lb bass, the way that sucker jumped in the air would have done a Great White proud, I thought i had at least 3rd place in the bag, but when we got back to hq the winner was a 7.2 lb bass!

My friend Josh Emerson from Jensen Beach, FL sent me an email in April talking about a HUMONGOUS hammerhead he caught off the beach on one of our favorite beaches. He was going to submit it to the ILSFA (Landbased Shark Fishing) for a the record of largest hammerhead caught from land. So I finally recieved the pictures from him, and word that he IS the new record holder. It was caught on a 8ft Star Rod, with a Penn Senator 12/0 reel with 6000 yds of 125# Triplefish, 15 yds or 100 lb wire, 10 yds of 200 lb wire, and 5 yds of 350 lb wire. Bait was a whole amberjack.

Congrats Josh on your record 13' 1", 758.16 lb Hammerhead Shark. The fish's monstrous girth measured 76".

Sadly, the fish fought itself to the death (as hammerheads have a tendency to do). Most of the meat was donated to homeless shelters and families in need in Miami, while the head and other parts were donated to research, so we can better understand these magnificent sharks.

I went fishing this weekend in a river across the state that my friend and I like to hit often. Our main target were spring steelies. We focused mainly on the big runs, although we did spot several steelhead on the gravel. It's been a chilly week here, but the weathershould start warming up. Because of that, the steelhead run should start tapering and only the skamania should remain.

We also got this surprise:

A fat 27" walleye

All fish were caught drifting nuke eggs, estaz eggs, and stoneflies. Had a couple small brown trout taken (11"), but they were promptly released.

one time my dad caught a big cat fish and he was so heavy and the fishing line snapped and now the cat fish is probaly swimming around with a hook in his mouth.and yeah i like fishing grin2.gif

Hooks should fall out of the fish's mouth after some time...So don't worry, it's probably hook-free now.

I wonder if anyone has done a study on how long hooks stay in and what happens to the fish. I have never caught a fish with a hook in it's mouth, I have found them in their bellies while cleaning. I fish barb less sometimes cause it is easier to get them off after you catch them.
frogfish
Yea, I found hooks in grouper stomachs also. I fish all my flies barbless, and I crimp most of the barbs on any lure I use. Makes it so much more easier.

I spent a couple days at my dad's place in Northern Chicago (Libertyville to be exact). There are a bunch of lakes and ponds in the area, so I headed over to Independence Grove Forest Preserve to do some flyfishing. What an amazing lake that is. The water is FULL of bass, walleye, pike, sunfish, perch, and even some mucky and catfish. I managed to land MANY bass in the 16-19" range, and had many breakoffs (hopefully on pike and walleye). The hot fly was a white zonker.

I did catch one fish that bested my personal best by a few lbs.

a 23.5" bass, estimated around 8 or 9 lbs.

I can't wait to get back.
