Rant about your fishing exploits, the big one that got away, or just fishing... here...

Me and my friend went fishing yesterday, and we caught a 30 lb. Carp grin2.gif
FLY SPITTA
I like it, but there's no place in my town to fish..... sad.gif
Yelekiah
I love fishing, it's good to just get away from everything. Even fishing when you know they're aren't any fish. Congratulations on your catch!
Irish
I have heard of fly fishing and ice fishing but what is rock fishing?
grin2.gif
wrighty
I love fishing.

There is nothing better than catching your own fish and eating them.
amybutts
I love to take my girls, and 6 and 13. None of us catch a thing! But it is just plain fun.
wrighty
Great time to talk with your family isn't it.
Sofia Alexandra
My dad used to take me fishing when I was a li'l kid, but I can't remember any specific catch... *wants some fishing gear*
frogfish
even if you dont catch anything, its nice to be just in the great outdoors and relax...I would lkike to hear your big catches too

I love salmon fishing...We live in Michigan, so we go up to Ludington (lake Mich) in the Last week of Sept..this year, i caught 3 (12 lb, 12lb, and 7 lb) king salmon. we Also have a lake close to my home in Canton (near Ann Arbor). me and My friend have caugh 6 bass over 4 lbs there in the last 3 months...
twpdyp
I would rather have my tonsils removed with a grappling hook than to ever go fishing again.
frogfish
yes Wrighty, its a great time to connect with your family...
Sofia, you live in Sweden, so I dont know any specific stores there. but they have excellent salmon fishing...they used to be the best. not BC (british columbia) is the world best salmon fishery...were going there next year original.gif

twdpyd, this is not a place to bash fishing...go and start another thread if you like
Sofia Alexandra
I know where to buy the stuff, but I don't have any money right now... Maybe I can get my papa to buy a rod for me...?

There is a really nice lake not far from where I live, with a beach where I use to go in the summer. Last time I was there I saw a decent-sized pike only a few metres from the shoreline... original.gif

frogfish
thats preety nice, how long was the pike? original.gif
If you get that rod, go and catch it!
wabbit
Fishing is such a relaxing pastime and my very favourite. I would give up my computer in an instant for a life where I could go fishing any time I wished to.

Two of my 3 children love fishing also. My brothers don't like fishing, so that when we meet up at my parents' cottage, my nieces and nephews flock to me for me to take them out on the boat and go to my favourite fishing holes. wub.gif

My biggest catches in the past little while were a 4 lbs small mouth bass, a 7 lbs pike and a 14 lbs muskie.

The only fish I abhor catching (aside from eels) are catfish. I cut the line when I catch those. The touch of their "skin" makes my own skin crawl.

I could go on and on with fishing stories.. I have so many of them ... blush.gif yes.gif
Dowdy
I've been fishing a couple times with my friends. It's pretty fun but i'm a crap fisherman sad.gif
frogfish
Dowdy, it takes time and patience to be a good fisherman.
Hey Wabbit!!!!!!!!!
Im just like you! I would almost give up anything to go fishing (except family and religion...etc.). I have been fishing since i was very little...my Mom likes fishing, so that probably why I do! original.gif
The one part I have to disagree with you is about catfish... I love catfishing, but I dont have th chance to do it often sad.gif...where I live, there arent many good catfishing rivers...why dont you like catfish...the best way to hold them is behind the pectoral fins (so you dont get impaled by the spines). BUT the one catfish I ABSOLUTELY HATE rae bullheads...I hate them, they are the most slimy fish ever, and they always take the hook deep.

Where in Canada do you live? I live near Detroit Michigan. The closest I have ever ben to fishing is in Minnesota. My parents took me when i was 1 yr old (i was born there) so i actually didnt get to fish... we moved to Detroit when i was 1 1/2. I always wanted to go fishing In Canada...My family and I are going to Minnesota for pike, walleye, and muskie, and then B.C next year for some Salmon fishing (in Vancouver Island and close to Prince Rupert...the Skeena River)!!!!!

Ahhh, I could go on and on about fishing
wabbit
I lived on Vancouver Island for 2 years, never had a chance to go fishing there though, but I have observed quite a few people while they were salmon fishing.
Let me tell you that after spawning season, the rotting salmon carcases in the streams along some of the highways near Victoria are the most vile smells you will ever experience! lol but I'm sure you will definitely enjoy your fishing trip original.gif BC is a beautiful province.

I won't touch catfish because their skin is more slimy then any fish around and I hate the fact that they have those "whiskers"and the spines... yuck! I know, I know, I'm such a wuss when it comes to those. I remember catching a small catfish once, unhooking it and keeping it out of the water for an hour (I was around 12 at that time). Believe it or not, I put it back in the lake and the darn thing stayed on it's back for approx. 15 seconds and swam away!!! I swear, catfish are evil! lol Needless to say, it spooked me.

I don't mind putting worms, minnows and even frogs (shhhh, some don't like that frogs are used for fishing but frogs are excellent for muskie fishing thumbsup.gif ) on hooks to better my catches. I've taught myself to fish, since no one in my family but me likes fishing. I remember getting up at 5am when I was 12-13 years old, getting my fishing gear ready and heading out to fish; I would sit for hours on rocks by the lake, trying lure after lure to catch perch, small mouth bass and sometimes would get surprised by catching pike.

I love fishing!!!! wub.gif blush.gif
frogfish
yep, I researched about B.C. a lot...It looks very beautiful...
Ha...I dont blame you for not liking catfish...Its your opinion original.gif I dont like holding catfish, but I like the bend they put in a rod original.gif Catfish can live a LONG time out of water...When we went to Tennessee 2 years ago, we did a lot of cafishing..One day we were out catfishing (me, my sis, my mom, and dad) and we caugh 3 catfish within the first 30 min. After 2 hours we went home (we emptied out the water of the bucket...my mom forgot to put them in the freezer (we like to eat fish). She realized 3 hour later that there was a thumping noise in the bucket in the garage (we have timeshare units from RCI, and that place had garages original.gif ), and when she checked it, all 3 catfish were still alive!
Muskies like frogs? Thanks for telling me...i never knew that. I weill be sure to try that in Minnesota...I knew walleyes liked frogs!

Btw, I dont think We will be there for post-spwan, it will be July
wabbit
doesn't surprise me one bit about those catfish still being alive after that while lol I tell ya, they're evil fish! blush.gif

I forgot to mention, I live in Quebec.

My ex-Mom-in-law and I used to rent lakes to go trout fishing a while ago. Those were small lakes on a private property where they had only trouts (rainbows, brown, speckled, etc.). Only electric motors were allowed there. We would see Moose, bears, deer, loons, ducks and all kinds of wildlife while we were out on the lake. It was so dreamy! blush.gif I was thinking about calling her up next spring/summer to do that once more (we get along very well, fortunately). I love the way the rainbow trouts would leap out of the water when hooked.

ahhhhhh those were the days... I'm sure she would love to take me up on that offer original.gif
frogfish
I like trout fishing!...well, i like any kind of fishing! original.gif

We would go to Wyoming and Yellowstone Nat'l Park, and go flyfishing for cutthroat trout, brook, and browns. When we went to Tennesse, i did some flyfishing in the Smokie Mountains, and caught a 5lb Rainbow...

We do a lot of river fishing in Michigan, so we catch Great Lake Chinnok/ Coho salmon, Shad, and Steelhead...where we live, there even a walleye run from the Detroit River!

If you love how Rainbows jump, then i would advise you to try some salmon fishing (in the runs (rivers) not out in the ocean)...its a bit expensive to buy all the gear (salmon rod/fly rod, high quality reels/ fly reels, line...etc.)..we have 2 spinning rods for salmon. the rods and reels cost about 300 US$ in all. we also have a flyrod and fly reel for salmon. That cost about 400 US$ original.gif. I know, we're crazy tongue.gif
You would love Salmon fishing during the spawining runs...They are the most acrobatic fish ever! Imagine a 40 lb (20 if in Michigan sad.gif ) fish jumoing 6 feet out of the water, and doing a triple summersault, and the landing broadside into the water...i bet you saw that when you watched people salmon fishing original.gif

I cant wait to hook into one of those famous BC salmon!

BTW, where in Quebec do you live? I know Quebec has world-class pike, muskie, smallmouth bass, and walleye lakes original.gif
Would you happen to know any good lakes that dont require Fly-ins or staying in a lodge?
spacenut
I like fishing and the good thing is that there is a creek behind my house.

I like love fishing! I'm not very good though, just lucky!
frogfish

Fishing hurts crying.gif
Fish are so friendly and smart, I would never want to hurt and kill them crying.gif
frogfish
Well, I'm not vegetarian original.gif
You can always let go fish too... Fishing is a passion, you can't just give it up...

Fish are friendly??? Hmmmmm...
greychupa
My fish in the ponds are so sweet and kind, they always greet me when I come near the pond and they beg for food..And they are so smart ! I put my hands in the water as if was going to feed them, and the fish bump and touch my hands then. If they dont get anything, they will lose interest and swim away, they are so smart! There's no way a goldfish could have only a '5 sec memory', if they had, how would they come to me and ask for food? blush.gif

My brothers go fishing too, and I used to go with them, but not any more. They dont kill the fish, but throw it back into the water. This is called ' sport'. Ive seen they drag the big carps out of the water, and its mouth is really bleeding and it looks terrified, and it gasps for air and swings its body trying to escape.. hmm.gif I'll post some pictures of my carp, look how cute they are !! original.gif
frogfish
I have koi too, and they eat out of my hand...

But the fish are not terrified, what you see is stress

I've caughten a LOT of fish, and the only ones that bleed are the ones that swallow the hook..They all gasp, because that is how they breathe....Like catfish can breath air out of water...
If we are not fishing for food, I release what we catch...
darkknight
now thats a catch...user posted image
frogfish
Ohhhh, looks like a 200 pounder...

Fishing is a grand pasttime. I normally hit the panfish or walleyes around here. I live next to a river but it's so polluted that it would be insanely nasty to eat anything from it, but it's awesome for catch and release. So many carp in there... those are fun to catch.

For bait, I go for live or natural bait first. The fake stuff just doesn't work as well.
frogfish
I've never heard of catching carp with artificial lures in the first place original.gif
I've caught a bullhead on an Texas-rigged plastic worm though...that was crazy....

Bullheads are nasty. I learned real quick with them you need a steel leader. I just used a straight night crawler on a hook for them, they suck it right down.

Bet he gave you quite the fight to get in, that's their nature. tongue.gif
frogfish
nah, it was not the fight, it was the fact that he mauled my hook....THROUGH the plastic...
artymoon
Fishing is awesome, good therapy. Nothing like catching a 4 foot redfish off the jetties, at sunset, with a trout rod. Oh yeah, and drinking a brewsky.
*tear in eye*

or chasing after salmon in the Little Manistee River, and finally landing one after a hard battle...

WTF? Is that a Nile Perch?

Salmon fishing is my Favorite....Nothing better than hooking a fiesty 30 lb salmon in a clear, beautiful river, watching the breathtaking aerobatics and the bull-like runs, and trying to keep it away from fallen timber original.gif
