Very interesting topic. Spooky stuff indeed! If I understand the general view on haunted places, it's believed to be caused by the restless spirits of those who have died physically, but have not yet passed over fully to the "non physical" realm. Who knows ? One thing's for sure; it definitely makes for spine-chilling reading.

this place doesn't really have anything to do with ghosts.

Hi All,

Drove out through Cossart Rd. yesterday with my brother. They removed the street signs and the side roads seem to be blocked. The "trees" look as though they have been trimmed quite a bit and many removed. The skull tree was there but covered in a lot of graffiti...

I pass through this way once a month from DC to visit family in West Chester. I always take 141N to 100 and then pick up Rte. 1... I like the scenery. I always thought it was creepy, but just recently heard about the legend.

When I was a kid, maybe 8 or so my older cousins drove us somewhere they called Hell Gate or Gates of Hell... I remember a long dark road with these huge red gates that truly looked like hell... I have since forgotten about it and really was too young to know where it was... Is this the same area? I was unable to find any gates on Cossart Rd.

Now almost 30 years later I find this interesting.

BTW- If anyone is from NY near White Plains there's a road up there called Buckout Road... I got a few scary stories from there.

Wow, I can't believe this is still being talked about! Lol. I only get on here like once every few months or so, and I think I posted on this a LOOOOOONG time ago. . . Lol, yeah, the Most Haunted team. . .so we can see that blonde woman scream over little fox things and that fake medium get possessed by the evil of the big tree.

This topic is the most talked about 'legend' in our area probably. Our documentary has been finished since October and we still get 100s and 100s of emails asking if there is a cult house.

woh sure took me a lone time to read all of that, wuite suprised ive never heard of this before but as soon as i read the first few stories it reminded me of a place by my area. basially there is a very long lane that starts in an area we name lego land becuase there a house that seriously looks like a house made from lego its hard to explain but anyway this land is extremeley long miles long it connects to another lane at the top and basically about 3 or so miles in basically in the middle of no where there is really all i can desribe as a compound or a yard filled with junk with a house looming over it on top of a hill, a big house. now there has been stories chicling this area for a very long time, my freinds dad told me he once was turning around in the lane and he drove slightly into the yard as soon as he did 2 massive dogs we set free from a shed they litterally crashed into the car a man then approached shouting dont get out of the car leave! he did promptly. there is fields at the back of the compund/house that go for miles. a few years back a couple of freinds and i were basically just walking up the fields without any intention to invesigate this house tbh we handt really had that many expericences but this time was different. right at the back of the house there is a very steep hill and we arrived on our 'travels' at the top of it, as teenagers do we started to dare eachother to go in so me and my freind sean did, and this is no word of a lie as soon as we reached the bottom of that hill a tatty old 4x4 jetted across to our postion really agrssively i couldnt see anyone in the vehicle since i wasnt really payin attebtion i just wanted to get out of therethere was quite alot of bushes at the bottom mainly nettles so we didnt want to risk being stung so i began to crawl back up the hill shouting sean come on he stayed put... hiding. as i got up to the top of the hill i said to my freinds chris and david ''we have to go were getting chased, sean still dnw there'' we then began to shout SEANN!! no answer turns out that he was still in the bush we the 4x4 cirling round another had join in my absence aswell so two 4x4. we didnt find this out till l8er. as we were shouting my freind david sed is that a car? and as weird as this sounds about 20 feet in front of us there was a large bush on the top of a small bank and i dnt know i didnt hear it but another 4x4 was actually creeping slowly round the left side of the bush ( its the onlli was i cn desribe it) we ran me and david ran into an opening into a near by field, it wasnt a gate it was basically a hole in the bushes big enough for a car to fit into it, we then porceeded to jump into a bush, my freind chris told us l8er that he also jumped into some underbrush and 2 more vehicles came up the bank searching for us he sed one looked like the van of jeepers creepers all tatty and rusty and one was a hatchback care very old and rusty again, me and david were in a bush for aboutt 5 minitues when he sed we have to move, i said no i had a really bad feeling if we moved then we were goinnt to get caught turns out i was right 2 vehicles approched the bush and stopped but with the engine still running i was closing my eyes and biting down on my hand thinking we were goin to get caught - we didnt the cars proceeded to go in another direction we then ran out of the bush onto a field which is basically just one big bank and stopped by a large oak tree where we could get a good veiw of the hill we just ran down, we were out of breath but as sson as we stopped a figure apeared on top of the hill pointed ran back about 10 seconds later we seen the jeepers creepers type van crest the top of the hill we ran and and ran and to this small steel fence that we jumped over and ran somemore, the van could not cross and we began to run for about 10 minutes or so and i swear i could hear the rumble of the vans engine trying to fin an alternate route to us we porceeded to discus how we were goin to get back to sean and chris we kept moving until we reached the nearby town of flint there was houses across a large bush and we proceeded to crawl through into an abondoned house and threw into the street we then decided to go and wait near chrises house since that where we always meet they were already there when we got back and sean swore as he was hiding he could hear the voives of about a dozen people in the yard chatting about what there goin to do when they find us! i was really scared the next time i go there i could take some pics if anyone is interested

quick question. A few friends and I are planning to go up there to chech this place out. Is this a bad idea?

A few of you mentioned something about a 1000$ fine for going on this road because it is private property. Is this fine still in place?

I'm just curious because I've always been intersested in the Supernatural so I wanted to be able to experience something, but its not worth 1000$
Even those of you who havent experienced anything when they went there, you all said it was deffnitly a weird aura about the place. This sounds cool so i wanna check it out. Please tell me if you think i should or should not go.

I know a bunch of places in Pennsylvania, where they are worshiping the devil, also where a lot of people Wicca People meet, I don't bother them they don't bother me, In pennsylvania you have to be careful when you go hunting, you may kill a devil worshiper, a witch , a dog, or two gay guys in the forest. very commun in my Neck of the Woods. I am very careful tho... I don't bother them they don't bother me

Kevin, it's not worth going up there. There is NOTHING paranormal going on there, I've been there soo sooo soo many times, have done a documentary on the place and have studied and looked up every possible thing about the place and have found nothing. I had one experience down there that 'could be' paranormal, but it was probably just my mind playing tricks on me.

From personal experience and from speaking with the different people who work and live along and around the road, it is patrolled heavily by cops. There has been a big rise in patrols because of vandalism on the road and the cops down there no longer play around.

There is no sign posted as private property. There are no parking signs, but that's it. Like said before, there's nothing there. It's just a place that you may want to see if you've heard about it for a long time.

As with anything else, you should be careful. Cults or not, there are always people who will do you harm if you let them.

Um, there are most definently No Trespassing signs all over the place down there. Cossart Road is a public road, but once you wander off of it, you are on Private Property. There are no trespassing: private property signs on like every 5th or 6th tree.

I think the place you're talking about is in Jersey. From what I understand, Cossart Rd. isn't far from Jersey though.

There's two places like that in PA. One is in Downington and the other is in York.

That house belonged to my grandmother, she owns a lot of the property in that area. Let me assure you that there is nothing special about the house except its collection of art. The man bbhproductions spoke to was my uncle. Please respect my family's privacy, the legend only originated because the property was a place where kids would go to drink in the 70's-present day.

It was a splendid source of stories though, I enjoyed reading them. Not all houses that are slightly secluded and in a forest on its own, is full of devil worshippers.

I did drive through the Pine Barrens once though. I was on my way to a friends bachelor party in OC. Coming from PA. I assume it was the barrens. No signs or anything, but miles of creepy forrest. It was pretty strange.

I think I know were you are talking about. This place is near the Downington Twin Tunnels. Unfortunately, if you are thinking of the same 'Gates Of Hell' off of Saw Mill Rd. they gate and the house that was behind it have been knocked down.
