He was a very dark man, but I doubt he ever killed someone...probably though of it. I say he used his stories to relese anger, hatred, and revenge.

I LOVE Edgar Allen Poe! He's one of my all-time favorites! I think my favorite is "The Raven", although "The Pit and the Pendulum" run a close second.

I
looove the "Cask of Amontillado". I was so obsessed with that story to the point of memorizing it when I was a kid. Tell-Tale Heart is classic, but The Black Cat was also very amazing. It's too bad Poe wasn't appreciated in life.

Yes, if he was steal alive I would be kissing his feet.
Also, nice choice of a story Yelekiah...that's perhaps my favourite short story from Edgar.
Also, the size of this thread shows not too many appreciate him still today considering the "Appreciation to Johnny Depp" (however you spell this guys name) was heaping of mounds with posts.

I think he's overlooked at times. If one read his stories carefully, his genius really shines through.

Actually The Pit and the Pendulum, in my opinion was not a very good short story! It built up our concern and suspense when the poor person was wondering around in that underground room eating poisoned food after being captured. But when he was just about to get sliced by the pendulum.. the french army came to save him.. which was a bit of a weak ending!! Poe built up all of this suspense really successfully and then raped the whole essence of it with a quick fleet of 'trumpets' .. and walla .. the end.. hmm! rather pathetic.. it is a typical 'close call' ending which you get in children's cartoons! pity!!!!!!
I really like The Fall of the House of Usher!! that was an amazing classic horror short story! The detail and descrition he gives in his work is so realistic which is one of the reasons why he was such a unique writer.
