Finally, after God knows how long waiting, the new Wheel of Time novel, called Knife of Dreams is out in Australia.

Robert Jordan - please, don't leave us waiting so long for the next one.

Well I only started the series at then end of last year and tonight I shall finish the 11th book which has indeed been very enjoyable. Although some of the storyline were slightly rushed so they could be concluded before the final battle I thought.

It was a 33 month wait between the 10th and 11th book but Robert Jordan has promised this time it will only be around a year and a half wait. Heres hoping!

I started this series years ago but actually gave up on it because of having to wait to years for each book. I think I read up to book 5. I have all the others after this, but I'd forgotten so much of the story by the time 6 came out I couldn't be bothered trying to carry on.

^lol well I`m lucky that I only started at the end of last year and will hopefully only have around 18 months or so to wait until the final book is released.
Anyway many fans found books 7-10 rather slow and lacking in content but I personally thought they weren`t that bad at all just slightly on the slow side at times. So depending on how you like your stories you may not have missed out on that much. Although I would recommend this series to just about anyone who likes to read.

I started when books 1-4 were released. Since then, I've lost count of the times I've re-read them, because I'd forgotten heaps of what had happened.

But it's worth the re-read. You miss a lot the first (or even the fourth) time through grin2.gif

^I was thinking about doing that but then I looked at my pile of 11 wheel of time books and just couldn`t bring my self to re-read them all again just yet seeing how I only finished the eleventh 2 days ago. Once a release date is confirmed for the 12th book I will certainly attempt to re-read them all. For now though I shall try and find the prequel "New Spring" which seems rather rare in bookstores these days.

And there's apparently another book - "The Strike at Shayol Ghul" - that is not in AUstralia. I haven't read it yet, but it could be interesting. I've got an electronic copy of the series, that one included. If you want it, feel free to PM me, ok thumbsup.gif

^Interesting I might just do that once I`ve read New Spring which I found in the same place I last saw it within a Big W store.
Is "The Strike at Shayol Ghul" one of the three prequels Robert Jordan has decided to write?
Paranoid Android
I don't think so. I'm still reading through the series, getting to book 11 (I've forgotten heaps of what I read all those years ago now). But flipping through it, it has Rand and Mat and Perrin, and Rand seems to be Car'a'carn with the Aiel, so I think it's just an off-shoot story of some kind. I'm looking forward to checking it out though.

Very interesting. After having looked up much on Robert Jordan and his books in the hope of finding out when the 12th book would be released I never came across more than the one prequel New spring which is meant to be the first of three. What I`m concerned about though is that like with the eleventh book RJ may decide to also write a prequel at the same time pushing back the release of the 12th book!..........I need to know what happens!

oops blush.gif I just took a closer look at the Strike at Shayol Ghul. I believe it's a preliminary release of the book only, and I guess it's going to deal with Lews Therin and the Hundred Companions striking at the Dark One.

THe Strike at Shayol Ghul is only a chapter long. I just hadn't looked closely at it, and since it is an e-book, I just skipped a little along and didn't see the break between it and the next book, and just thought it was an extension of the same book.

So, no prequel yet, but it looks like it's started. Again, big blush.gif from me grin2.gif

lol, no worries! As long as Robert Jordan doesn`t give it preference over the 12th book. He can bloody write as many prequels as he likes once hes actually finished the series!

So what does everybody think will happen in the final book?

SORRY ABOUT THE PREMATURE ANNOUNCEMENT

Well, guys, the letter in Locus is indeed from me. I had hoped to be a little more focused with this and get a post up here before anything came out in Locus, or anywhere else public, so you would get it first, but I flat forgot that Charles has his on-line version of Locus now, too. Sorry about that.

Don’t get too upset, guys. Worse comes to worst, I will finish A Memory of Light, so the main story arc, at least, will be completed. And frankly, as I said, I intend to beat this thing. Anything can be beaten with the right attitude, and my attitude is, I have too many books to write yet for me to just lie down. Don’t have time for it. Besides, I promised Harriet I’d be around for our 50th, and that means another 25 years from this month right there. Can’t break a promise to Harriet, now can I?

I had intended to go on with a few answers to questions when I made this post (I see some interesting ones), but that will have to wait, I’m afraid. I have a few other things to get done first. Maybe I’ll be able to get that up this afternoon or tomorrow. No promises, though. Before I go to Mayo, though, I promise. And updates from the Mayo as I can manage.

Oh, yes. When the hair goes, with the chemo — as it is very likely to do — I’ll post some before and after shots, just so people showing up in Seattle and Anchorage won’t think we’ve run in a ringer. Yes, I plan to keeping those signings in late June. The chemo and recuperation should be finished by mid-to-late May, so I can make it. Hey, there will be big salmon running in Alaska at that time, and I never passed up a chance at big fish in my life.

Again, sorry that you got the news in such a raggedy fashion. I really did mean to handle things more smoothly.

Take care, guys. Until the next time.

All my best,
RJ
