Fox Television has cancelled a fourth series of reality TV show The Simple Life after its two stars, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, fell out.

The show proved a success as the two socialites ditched their millionaire lifestyles to travel across the US.

Its production company is hoping another network will pick up the show, despite the fact the former friends are still publicly feuding.

Fox said it "did not see a place" for the show in its schedules.

Bunim-Murray Productions, which produces the show with 20th Century Fox, said it was still behind the show.

Replacement idea

"We're very excited about the creative plans for the next group of episodes, and are confident this situation will be remedied quickly," it said in a statement.

Earlier this year Hilton confirmed she and Richie were no longer friends, throwing the series into doubt, but would not be drawn on the reasons.

She had lobbied for the daughter of Rod Stewart, Kimberly, to take over from Richie but Fox rejected this proposal.

Producers insisted Hilton and Richie would be held to their contract to make another series of The Simple Life.

Hilton said she is concentrating on movie projects and a singing career.

She recently called off her engagement to shipping heir Paris Latsis, while Richie is engaged is to DJ Adam Goldstein.

OK, don't all lynch me at once, but I thought the show was pretty entertaining at times.

It's not all that often you get to laugh at your 'social betters' and the mind-numbing idiocy of these girls with their sheltered upbringing and idle lifestyles provided me with plenty of cheap laughs.

I won't lynch you. The first one was amusing. Made me laugh with the Sonic incident. But there is wayyyy too much Paris Hilton. She is so annoying now. If she releases a CD I will leave the country.

Agreed. by the second series they seemed to be glorifying their stupidity, which kinda ruined the joke.
I think the only reason I put up with it so long was because they're hot If it'd been 2 guys running around performing those antics... It shudders to make me even think of it

She is the saddest example of the worst aspects of todays kids...spoiled rotten, with absolutely no idea of what life is like...sheltered and catered to by her parent to the point of being a horrible diservice; if she ever lost her money, she would just never be able to make it in todays society...

So many kids today seem to think that they should be able to have the same lifestyle as their parents do just starting off in life; new care, nice home, best clothes...lots of spending money...stuff that the parent worked years to get, but somehow never took the time to explain to the kids how hard it was to get to that point.

Parent have really dropped the ball when it comes to raising kids with good work ethics, and she is a prime example of that. No goal in life other than to party and spend money that isn't hers. I will have a guilty laugh when she blows herself up, as I doubt she is far away from drug addiction or alcoholism...nothing in life is keeping her from partying all of the time, and she does...

It is just sad.

She is a rich girl who is a bit dull and likes to party, and a heiress to a lot of money.

Mr. Ed, if you were in America you'd "overreact" too, lol. She is always on the news, like she was on the 5 o'clock news when her dog was missing. It is so incredibly annoying. It's as if she is trying to take over the world with her perfume, her CD, etc.
