Ok, well I was wondering something. I ran into this interesting link that shows how the bible is scientifically accurate.
http://www.clarifyingchristianity.com/science.shtmlIs it possible(if God does not exist) that people from over 2,000 years ago were that intelligent as to know the things the bible talks about?
What are your thoughts? Please read the entire page before posting.

"Dinosaurs are referred to in several Bible books."
Interesting site, however, this ^^ can easily be debated.

That particular website is actually pretty lame, and doesn't address the most remarkable thing of all about the Bible, in that the "creation story" in it can be interpreted as a description of EVOLUTION, which fundemantalist Christians, like those who made that website, refuse to accept because of their arrogant pride in themselves. The first version of the creation story in Genesis , if the periods listed in it are not considered "days" but as indeterminate, vast periods of time, can be interpreted as an incredible, inexplicable knowledge of evolutionary development and even the "big bang". As in scientific evolution, the first life is recorded in the sea, later we have "great monsters"(dinosaurs), birds, other animals and in the last period, mankind. How would ancient people possibly know this? This said, the Biblical creation suggests more validity to this theology than any other in the world.
It would be a mistake however to say all of the "great monsters" translated in the Bible as dragons, are simply dinosaurs as that article implies. Those in the creation story probably are just dinosaurs, but the "dragons" contemporary with humans in the later stories are actually heavenly creatures unless you completely dismiss the contexts. For example these creatures very name "Seraphim" literally means in hebrew, a flying fiery serpent, which is a better description of the legendary winged dragons of virtually every human culture, including this one. According to the Bible, these later "dragons" are not dumb animals, but the highest creatures in the heavenly hierarchy. The Bible clearly states that they sing praises to God, God rides on their backs and their huge wings create the wind, they are sent to punish/devour wicked people and are capable of human speech. Satan in fact, is one of these "dragons", and never described as an angel in the Bible. They also spew flames out of their mouths like legendary dragons. I don't think we can assign these attributes as things associated with regular dinosaurs, yet can somone accept one part of the scripture and dismiss the other and still claim the Bible is accurate? I attempt to explain all of this in my new book about the "dragons" in the Bible and their relationship to dragons in contemporary stories and religions of other cultures.
Fundamentalist Christians curiously ignore all of these aspects of Biblical "Dragons", but this is typical of their theology, picking only those these in the Bible they are "comfortable" with. In a way, this very "selective theology" contradicts the very claim they are "fundamental" as they ignore so much of the original Old Testament they don't like, yet have added to their theology in the New Testament, consideable amounts of pagan Greek and Zorastrian doctrine, entirely incompatible and blasphemous to Judaism (yes, Jesus was a Jew, and never purported to create a new "Christian" religion in his name, particularly one filled with pagan theologies as most sects of modern Christianity indisputably have done.)

the bible does not always agree with scientific views for example :Gen.30:35--43 says that placing striped sticks in view of mating animals results in striped offspring. That cleary is false, and has been dispoved by science
also i think its a bit farfetched when that site (in the prooving the bible page) claims that christianity is the only religion that can proove itself, when others can aswell using the same way christianity is prooved, its holy book, if christianity according to that site can proove itself with its book, its hypocritcle to say other religions can't

Well, I can't really make an opinion being that I've never seen anyone try to proove any other religion, but I'd like to see that. =)

i'm pretty sure muslims/islamics are the only other ones who have tried, they quote their holy book just as much as christianity for the justifications for what they do

From your link:
QUOTE
The Bible describes the circulation of the atmosphere.
Ecclesiastes 1:6
The wind goes toward the south,
And turns around to the north;
The wind whirls about continually,
And comes again on its circuit.
This is true ONLY in the northern hemisphere. In the southern half of the world it goes toward the north.
If you wanted debate of this thread you posted in the wrong section.

Ask to have it moved to the Skepticism section if you want to debate
As I have said this is the Beliefs section and we are not allowed to debate here.

it figures, i e-mail them with a list of flaws/errors with the content & "proof" on their site and instead of a proper reply recieve a automated message about how they get so many e-mails that they cannot answer anyones, i highly doubt it is that popular and what is the point of listing the site creators e-mail address for questions when he doesn't reply to any, typical of most christians i've argued with, when something comes out that questions their belief they will either give a irrelevant answer or ignore the question

Actualy it is quite possible they do get alot of emails. It was on the first page of my google search and most sites claiming things about the bible probably do get alot of emails.
Can someone move this please?

then why not remove the e-mail address? its a useuless feature, and besides if its so popular why do sites who obviously have more popularity have time to answer e-mails? kinda a lazy way to escape riducle

You do know what people say about making accuisations, eh? It's not nice, and you do not know if you are right neither do I, so I'm not going to argue about it. Really doesn't matter anyway because I don't even know if any of the information really is legit, being that I don't have a degree in any of the things it's talking about XD. You really should be nicer to christians, it's not kool being mean to someone because they have different beleifs than you. =P

but thats the hypocriticle thing, there are many cases where priests have called for stonings (and it has happend if you want i will link news sources) of other groups and gone ahead with it. Christianity is a founding religion for being mean to groups its bible says are evil (homosexuals, wiccans, people who have sex before marrige, abortionists etc.) so don't talk to me about i should be nicer to christians when they are not exactly nice themselves
ShaunZero

Priests are odd peeps. They think of themselves as higher than others. That's why I would not be in any religion that has a priest.
Don't hold that against all Christians. I'm a nice dude.
I have had sex before marriage. I use to smoke pot XD....
And I'm not mean to people who do those things, I just know it's wrong and that's as far as it goes.

i'm not saying its all christians, just that i find it ironic that the church tries to sweap all the negative things it does under the carpet (crusades, inqusition, witch trials, priests molesting children, stoning of groups it doesn't agree with), besides not accusing you and from waht i understand you are a christian who doesn't go to church, so your not the brainwashed type
ShaunZero
Oct 16 2005, 01:57 AM
I think that's pretty rude also. Calling them brainwashed. Now don't think I'm any less of a christian because I do not go to church. I follow the bible as best I can. And I study other's interpratations of different scriptures and choose wich seems more probable and go with that. Who knows, I may find the right religion one day.

Oct 16 2005, 01:59 AM
guess your right, i am taking to the extreme by saying brainwashed. just i refer them to that as most will listen to the priests without questioning what their being told, and will believe it no matter what, so sorry for being rude
