Hi

Have any of you read any true stories on parnormal beasts around the world? Like for example i once read a short story of a giant hound that attacked a couple on the Isle of man in england. Just looking for good books on that subject. Also anything about real life werewolves etc.. I Am thinking of buying some new good books but I dont wanna waste my money and get something crappy again. I am very interested in the beast of gevaudan so I ordered the book from online. BIG MISTAKE lol it was a HORRible book so far from the truth! I am sure if i had of spoken with some book critics I would never have bought that book, none of you have probably heard of it though because as soon as someone reads it they never speak about it I bet LOL the book is called beast by nick blackstock. I also have GHOSTS ttrue encounters with the world beyond. Another not so great book the author of this one is Hans Holzer its so thick and so boring almost impossible to find a good entertaining realistic story! LOL

There's a great book about hidden creatures (yeti, giant anacondas, tatzelwurm, etc.) called On the Track of Unknown Animals by Bernard Heuvelmans. It is difficult to find, a newer one (1995) may run you about $100 and a used one (1955) will be about $50. those prices are expensive, but the book is like a dictonary and is THE book about mysterious creatures. I had to order one from Barnes and Noble. His other book, In the Wake of the Sea-Serpents is more common, although all the copies are used(1968) and are about $40.
My library has that one so I check it out about every couple of months.

Of course they don't have much on "paranormal" stuff like ghosts and werewolves. However if you can get a copy at a library or something, they are definately worth it.

Here's a link where you can download a few classic monster books for free. The list includes Mythical Monsters by Charles Gould, and The Great Sea Serpent by A. C. Oudeman.

These works were written in the late 1800s, but contain some info that's still relevant today. thumbsup.gif

Great link! Thanks.

What kind of books are you looking for? I guess to recommend something you'll like I'd need to know a little about your taste in the paranormal.

If you want weird stuff I'd suggest "Strange Creatures From Time and Space" by John Keel. I'd recommend all of his books, actually but that and "the Mothman Prophecies" are the only ones still in print. You could probably find Mothman Porphecies very cheap used.

I think the best way to find books you'll enjoy would be to go to amazon, type in "paranormal" or "monster" or some such term. There are lists of books that people assemble. Most books will have a number of reviews and by paying close attention to them you'll find what the people liked and didn't like. Or, if you go to one of the big chain books stores you can grab a couple to look through over a cup of coffee.

If you are looking for some good books on werewolves I have three titles that might interest you (if you haven't already picked them up):

The Book of Were-wolves, by Sabine Baring-Gould

The Werewolf in Lore and Legend, by Montague Summers

The Beast Within: A History of the Werewolf, by Adam Douglas

All three of these books look at the legend and accounts of werewolves and werewolf sightings. I own the first two, and have read the third (actually thinking of picking that up as well). You can find the first two on Barnes and Noble or Amazon new, but you'll have a better time finding the third one used.
