There is this Abandoned Insane Asylum in my hometown, San Antonio. I had an uncle that died there. He was a patient and died of a brain tumor. It's been closed for years. My best friend and other teens like to go and have themselves a scare. He says that he really does think it's haunted but has never seen anything for himself. he does say that it's really creepy though. Everything was left there. Equipment, documents,... He went last halloween. he said that they opened an old elavator door and inside were all these papers thrown around. He picked up one of them and said it was a record for some lady that was admitted there. He put back and didn't touch anything after that. I told him to let me know when he'll be going back. I want to get some video and voice recordings of the place. Another friend of mine said that it is definitely haunted. He's a volunteer firefighter and went there on a call with one other guy. He said they got lost in the place and saw lots of crazy things. He said he saw shadow people. He called shadows that looked like midgets. He said it was terrifying for him and that he'd never go back. i was wondering if anybody else knows about this place. I'll see if I can google up any info.

Hi,
You will get farther in your searches if you use alterntive nomenclature for "Abandoned Insane Asylum...".
Try this site
http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online...s/MM/smmun.html.
It is a professional journal with an abundance of information and probably includes the one you speak of.
If you can send/post pictures do so. But don't do it drunk...If you tresspasss and are drunk it's dangerous.
Most professionals, like myself, in the field (psychology) are able to get information because we know how the buildings were once named.
Good luck and let me know. Where I live now I have haunted castles, Roman forts, Stonehenge, Woodhenge and on and on.
If you go back take pictures. I won't be traveling in the states for a long time (my husband is a full time International Lawyer and I am a full time researcher and Solitary Witch. My husband finally met or saw the ghost that has been with me for a long time...it's funny because he is not only in law but is a scientist....so many things. He is brilliant and we will travel around with my camera once the University is out in May/June. He is busy.
In Scotland, about 8 hours from me, Halloween or Samhain (pronounced Sow- wen) is our higest holiday. It's our New Year and up there (Scotland) they have a huge celebration. You can probably catch it on TV. On the History or Discovery channel...I 'll find out
Be well and stay safe...I be checking in.

Ok. Well Ive actually been to the Insane Asylum in San Antonio. Ive been a few times. It took me awhile to work up the courage to go until last halloween. I was with a few friends and we went and bought a few flash lights. When we got there, there was some other kids there also, but they got to scared so they left. We were kind of scared that the cops would bust us because we heard stories from kids at school going and getting caught.
We took our chances. There are 3 buildings. All look so trashed. Yes there was paper everywhere. It looked like torn up dictionary pages..and files I supose. We didnt actually read them. It was "tagged" everywhere from previous kids. We went the the second building where we heard a story about some "unknown" force keeping you from going past the second floor. It wasnt true. There was old elevator doors and we looked down..it was kind of creepy. There seemed to be bathtubs and broken toilets in most of the rooms. I didnt see anything left behind though. We looked in every single room. My friends from school told me there would be like padding on the walls and face masks and all sorts of things. All I saw was some old matresses and cans and junk people left behind.
It was really scary. We were only there for about 5 minutes when our new flashlights were going out. We ended up with one working..and went onto the roof where there was a fire escape. I also heard stories of that same fire escape being a slide that they transported "bodies" because they didnt fit on the stairs. Stupid because there was totally an elevator. I also heard that the first small building is the place where they burned the dead bodies.
If you walk in the feild past everything you will come across some wooden crosses. I heard its where people had been buried.
All in all, even if it isnt haunted, it looks and feels damn scary. I loved it. It scared the sh** out of me and probibily anyone else who has gone.
and the story i heard is that it closed because the doctors went insane themselves and killed everyone?
i dont know.
but yeah thats my expierience. i would love to go again.
its located off of highway 37 and southton rd behind the TYC bulding.

WELL, ACTUALLY I WENT BOUT 2 OR 3 YEARS AGO WITH SOME FRIENDS. FROM THE VERY FIRST STEP THAT I TOOK IN THE PROPERTY I SAW SOMETHING IN THE BUSHES. TO THIS DAY I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT IS OR WAS. I REMEMBER US WALKIN TOWARDS THE SECONG BUILDING AND ME FLASHING MY FLASH LIGHT TOWARDS THE GRASS IN THE DISTANCE. I SAW A FIGURE OF SOMETHING THAT ONCE THE LIGHT HIT IT IT DUCKED DOWN UNDER THE TALL GRASS. I WASNT THE ONLY ONE THAT SAW IT THOUGH IT WAS ALSO MY FRIEND WHO SAW IT. I TOLD THEM, "HEY LETS GO", SO WE STARTED WALKIN BACK TO THE CAR WHEN I TOLD THEM DONT RUN BECAUSE IF YOU DO...WHATEVER IT IS WILL CHASE YOU. AT THAT TIME SOMETHING MADE US RUN AND AS SOON AS WE STARTED RUNNING I HEARD ALOT OF DIFFERENT CRIES OF SEEMED TO BE PEOPLE ASKINS FOR HELP...IT WAS WILD AND SCARY BUT I'M WILLING TO DO IT AGAIN.

yea i went there last night. It was a scary place we went with like 4 to 5 people. You got to watch out when you go theres a neighbor that protects the property that has a shotgun. It was just okay you know seeing what it is and everything, but when we were walkin we saw a figure in the bush and all of a sudden a girl screamin came out of no where 4 times they scream same tone, same length, and same volume. It did not crack or anything. Yea it freaked me out.
Also i read that if you go bring some protection, theres people that will hi jack your car, rob you, and other things. i didnt know this till after i went so next time i go im bringin somethin in case.

Would anyone know the name of the Hospital? I've gone to San Antonio nearly every other weekend to go play, camp and hike and rafting.
The San Antonio Railroad tracks where the school bus full of children who died is a fake.

Hey there guys. I was hanging out with my friend Angie and sis-in-law Bo yesterday. we got to talking about the asylum and ghost tracks and set out to find them. we new were the tracks were and heard that the asylum was close by. after a bit of searching we found it. we didn't get off our car. just parked and stared at it for a while. then somebody from the house across the street shot off their shotgun. To scare us a away i suppose. Well it freakin worked! lol anywho. We went back home and Angie start doing a bit of research on the web. when googling the subject, she found this thread. I told about this site and my screen name so when she saw it she called me right away. WE're making plans to go back there soon. I'm taking a digicam and hopefully a voice recorder. I'll make sure to post something up even if we don't catch anything just so you guys can get a glimpse of the place. toodles.

Pff as if the guy is going to shoot someone for tresspassing. Its not even his land! This is mind boggling to me. Do the legal enforcers know about this guy? What if the bullet were to ricochet off of something and actually hit someone? What kind of a hillbilly moron is this guy.
Im wondering now about the legalities of it all, and if this guy has fought to have the town/city tear it down. Why havent they gotten rid of this place, it wreaks of bad things possibly occuring such as rapes or murders.

Interesting building. Do you know the name of the building?
Sometimes when such buildings are left abandonded. They're usually have everything there when it was left. That's how it is sometimes.
Shadow people? It's probably the spirits of the dead people there. Trying to scary or going around the building acting nothing is wrong. ^^;

Have you ever seen
Session Nine? There are quite a few abandoned government structures around. I don't know if Danvers (the place in the film) is still standing or not but there are others. The TB Hospital at Waverly in Kentucky is one of the most haunted locations in the US. Check it out on this site.

that abandoned mental hospital is currently home to the cities homeless...I dont recommend anyone going there to see for yourself...dangerous place
also its full of asbestos, so maybe the govt is planning another random airliner attack on the building so they dont have to pay for costly asbestos removal...(i was being sarcastic)

The old Brice hospital here in Alabama was locked up with all the equipment and patients' records left behind also. This seems to be the case with most of these old places. Maybe there's a federal law forbidding the reuse of old hospital equipment.
Also, I believe these places are saturated with residual hauntings due to all the pain and suffering of the patients. I believe it also attracts evil spirits. Take Care...

geek. yeah there's like a detention center right next door isn't there? There's a lot of haunted crap in San Antonio anyway. Especially downtown Alamo area. The Crockett hotel is supposed to be haunted. I suppose it would be much easier and a lot less dangerous to just stay a couple of nights there for a ghost experience.

The missions are said to be very haunted too. My Grandmother lives right near Mission San Jose. It's a pretty neat place to see when you visit San Anto. The Alamodome has produced quite a few ghost stories as well. here's a link i found of some ghost pics. I don't know how genuine they are but thought it interesting enough to post.

alamo ghost? Most of these types of places are full of asbestos, lead and who-knows-what-else. There are a lot more health hazards than there are hazards from haints. There are also the ever-present homeless and former mental patients and the occasional Satanic dabbler not to mention police and landowners with understandably itchy trigger fingers. Any of these little investigations is fraught with real danger.

soo i went there the other night and a lot of what yall have to say happened to us as well.
when we got there we looked around and simply debated whether to even go in or not. then the neighbor fired a shot into the air which scared us half to death so we drove away. we decided to go back like 20 minutes later and got up the courage to actually go inside. it was all tagged up and dirty. we began to hear what sounded like moans. this gave me chills as you can expect. our adventure can to an abrupt end when the cops were called on us. they told us to just go home and not to go back. we bought along video cameras but for some reason the battery died when we got near the asylum so we couldnt capture the noises. we also tried to use our cell phones but that didnt work either.
good luck to those of you who are brave enough to enter.

Hey guys, this is my first post...
Last night myself and 3 friends visited this "abandoned asylum". The place is very creepy, and well worth the visit. If you venture past the small house and large office building there are two other structures in the woods. We did not go into these 2, but will return to do so.
Anyway, while there, in the office building i found what appears to be an evidence jar; perched on a ledge about 8 feet above the ground above a doorway.
The top of the jar was labled: "4240 Kings Lane, 9-27-5ld353, Debris from west wall south bedroom". Inside the jar is what appears to be burned pieces of wood. Very weird, i cannot find any streets in san antonio w/ this address.
Also about 45 mins. into our investigation we too heard a load gunshot like the others. This shot came from behind the facility (north of Farm Road).
if anyone wants to see pictures of the jar and place, let me know... i will be investigating this place more in a few days.
Btw, if you use google earth or one of the other terrain programs, and look up: 3621 Farm Road, it will take you too the Krier juvenile corrections treatment center. Directly east of this facility you can see the group of buildings that make up the "asylum"
i cannont find any records in the Bexar county zoning files as to what this place actually was, if any can help me in researching what exactly this place is, it would be greatly appreciated.
*If anyone wants to get together and go check this place out in the next few days, contact me at **EDIT** *

wow how neat. i lived in san antonio for 25 years of my life and never heard of this asylum. ill have to check it out when im back in town.
as far as the ghost tracks go, im SURE its just a bunch of silly scary fun and no truth to the story, but i CAN vouch that i have been there, on the tracks, on an incline, with the car in neutral.. and was pushed over the tracks UPHILL by unseen forces.
im sure theres some kind of scientific explanation for this (and please dont say optical illusion- thats just too easy, and if youve been there, youll probably agree with me that its definitely uphill). anyone have one?

I just got back from this site with 3 of my buds and let me start off by saying it's not haunted and it's a total wreck. Tons of gangs have been through there and tagged it to sh**. Also, all items inside it have been destroyed too. It wasn't scary at all because of this. We explored the 3 big main buildings. They were pretty lame IMO.
The house to the south of it with the supposed crazy man with the shotgun was no threat at all. There seemed to be a figure standing at the window staring at us when we first arrived, but it turned out to be a bush inside the window or other form of shrubbery that vaguely looks like a person.
We spent a good 2-3 hours there and cleared all the buildings with nothing truely interesting showing up. We did, however, loot 3 of those Jars with evidence from the fire marshall or whatever. Sorry to burst your bubbles, but I poop out more haunting things than this dump.

This is my first post here, and Id like to add abit to this topic. From the research I have done here, by asking locals, and what not alot of the stories seem to colaborate that something bad did happen there. As for the man watching the place its true. He does watch closly with a shotgun and fires on anyone that he finds trying to tresspass. My uncle was one that he fired on at one point in time. As for local authorities, yes they know about him, and he has good reason, aparently he owns part of the land around the asylum that is why he guards it.
Now this is my own speculation, and nothing I have heard, but I kinda believe that this guy might have been tied in to what ever happened there, or might have even worked there at some time, IDK but it only seems logical that he did if he guards it so well.
Rumor also has it that down in the basments you can find several severed limbs which were never taken out because of the rush of the abandonment, and local officials, have been noted to say that this area is deseasied and that people should not go in there for such reason. I dont know about this but it seems to keep alot of ppl away from it, as I have seen plenty of ppl just sit at the gate then take off. Either too scared, run off by gun shot, or they dont want to be contaminated. What ever the reason, the Asylum is the home of an evil doing.
Just from beeing in the general area of it I know this, believe me or not that is up to you. PM me if you want more details on why I believe this. Anyway, Im up for going out there, if anyone wants to make a visit. Or even to the surrounding area, I can take you to a few creepy areas near the Asylum which ppl dont know about that I have found.

Or even to the surrounding area, I can take you to a few creepy areas near the Asylum which ppl dont know about that I have found.
you =

there
is not anything of the matter going on there.

wow how neat. i lived in san antonio for 25 years of my life and never heard of this asylum. ill have to check it out when im back in town.
as far as the ghost tracks go, im SURE its just a bunch of silly scary fun and no truth to the story, but i CAN vouch that i have been there, on the tracks, on an incline, with the car in neutral.. and was pushed over the tracks UPHILL by unseen forces.
im sure theres some kind of scientific explanation for this (and please dont say optical illusion- thats just too easy, and if youve been there, youll probably agree with me that its definitely uphill). anyone have one?

This sounds alot like an 'Electric Brae' to be honest. There is a famous one in my area and it's quite a mind trip! It looks like you're on a hill going up and from a stationary position your car will start to crawl up the hill on it's own! But it's actually just an optical illusion, you're really going downhill not uphill. It's just the way the land lies either side that tricks the brain into thinking it's uphill.
See here, it talks about it. Pic as well

Well my friends and i have gone to the asylum two times already. The first time we only got in one building and f*** yea we were all scared!! the second time we got in all of them the third building is the scaries one we found all kinds of sh**!! i took my camara and took pictures as you can see on the bottom what freaks me out is that in all the pix i took somthing orange came out as you can see........OH and about that man with the shotgun its not true we went two time and he never did sh**!!!!
Nice pics man! I know ive said before that i was going back out there to take some pics myself, but this weekend when i went i forgot my camera. I went through all the bottom floor of the building closest to the road, but was unable to search the top floor. I climbed up a broken staircase to get to the top floor, but it was just to creepy (and i was alone). As for the shotgun guy, he DOES fire his gun, just not all the time. He didnt do it this time i went either.
I think this place really holds some mysteries that should be explored. The next time i head out there i will photograph EXTENSIVELY
btw Dyce, what kind of camera did you take the pics with?

Did anyone notice how dirty and dusty the place looks?
To the one who took the photos: I am curious about the light anomaly in the photos. I'm just wondering if you have ruled out a camera flaw. How many pictures had a similar light? Was it film or digital (or did you say already and I missed it).

hey guys, dyce just sent me all the pics he took
the orange light is NOT the same in all the pics... in some of them it takes up half the screen
and it's also different shapes
check them out here:

you guys are sad.
I've been to the asylums twice.
first of all the guy who shoots out there, has a right to shoot at you. In texas it's legal to fire at someone who trespasses on your property.
secondly, those aren't orbs and they never are. they're dust spots. I'm a photographer and a ghost-hunter so I'd know.
third, the train tracks ARE on a downhill slope. It's very obvious and I'll take photos next time to show you.
finally, no one left "confidential documents" behind. the asylums were used by fire marshalls, and then others just plant stuff behind to make you believe it's not supposed to be there. they were totally gutted out and then abandoned.
don't believe everything, just hunt for ghosts.

It's not ghosts or anything spiritual. In those particular photos, the aperture on his camera was opened too much (prob. b/c it was a dark setting) and whatever light that was hitting it caused that effect to happen...the flash didn't freeze anything, and whoever took those pictures slightly moved the camera. I do band photography as well and can easily get this effect.

Welcome to UM, thanks for the info about the Asylum, but may I humbly and respectfully suggest that saying...

Well, color me impressed! You KNOW this because you are a photographer and a "ghost-hunter". Tell me, where'd you get your license to kill ghosts?
Kidding... welcome to UM, although I would agree with Onxydk that wasn't a very nice thing to say to people you've never "met" before. People might take offense!

I'll see if I can google up any info.
new to forum and wanted to give my input on the post
My girlfriend, her friend, and I went there a few months ago, i think it was in may. It's not so bad there, during the day time, i have yet to go at night, but it's not that bad it's kind of peaceful...but the insides of the buildings are what throw it off, there's one area of the grounds where the building, there's like moss or some kind of plants growing covering the entire room it looks black and there's a huge drawing of a figure on the side of the wall, it's pretty creepy. Also, the main entrance of the "asylum", to the left of the stairs there's a plaque posted it's bronze and it says that it's a home for young men that have left home and have no place to go..has anybody else seen that plaque? Well anyway just thought i'd throw in my experiences.
also, there's usually a bexar county sheriff around cause of the juvenile facility just up the road, so beware of him...he'll give you some bull warning about trespassing and whatnot, and the dude with the gun..can't say i've heard a gun go off...oh and there are a lot of bees in the main building mainly on the second floor, they're all over the walls so be careful i think that's about it, oh and one more thing...people love to break the glass that hasn't been broken yet cause i guess it's a thrill to them so be carful with the broken glass too, that's about it thanks for your time.
