Hi all, I’m having a problem with my Satellite 5200-801 Laptop, it is around 3 years old now (Still under warrantee) but it seems to have developed a bit of a problem, now it was running really slow and using 100% CPU when using media player or flash files, so I formatted it in the hope it would fix the problem but alas not, I am unable to use WMedia Player, if i play .mpegs it uses 100% CPU and is all jerky so i cant watch it, exactly the same with DVDs etc. Also i have the same problem on flash files as soon as they come on they become jerky thanks to 100% CPU usage, however if I minimize the window so they are not on the screen the CPU Usage drops..... I’m really not sure what this problem is but any help on solving it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks In Advance, Jcb33

1) check for viruses and trojans
2) do you have ample cooling?
3) click 'start' click 'run' type 'msconfig' and go to your sart up and make sure that you don't have a bunch of unneccassary programs loading at start up.
4) do a ctrl+alt+del to see where your processor power is going. If you see something and your not sure what it is but it's using processing power it could be a virus.
Try those and let me know, k?

Very strange indeed.. more then enough power to run them... the only thing I can think of is if you changed your resolution and your monitor can't handle it... but very unlikely.... have you contacted the manufacturer yet?

i had this problem a while ago. i think installing service pack 2 updates the codecs. i haven't had a problem with my media player since i updated.
give it a try and let me know if this works.

Change your res to 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768..... 1600x1400 takes a lot of memory...

Unfortunatly have tried that

it makes no difference what so ever... and i have ran it at 1600x1400 since i got it so iv no idea what it is.... but im sure a 3 or so year old laptop that is of quality make should not go wrong

hope i can get it fixed

if you live near carson city ,NV, i can help!
but if you dont, heres my suggestions.
1. find all your important programs and back them up to disk, then reformat the harddrive.
2.get better cooling and overclock the CPU.(as we discussed)
3.send your computer to me!
4.move j3 to A1&A3(LOL, if your a computer geek)
5.if you dont want to reformat but do something close to that, backup stuff, the go to start-programs-accesories-system tools-system restore-then chose the furthest back date there is(this will work if its a software problem, it'll do nothing if its a hardware prob.)

I will try formating

(Again) but i cant overclock the CPU as i cant get into the BIOS and you cant realy upgrade the heatsink on a laptop :| if only i could stick a nice SLK on lol but any way and im afraid i live all the way accross in England so not just round the corner

You might have a Boot Sector virus. If you format normally it will not get rid of it. Use partition magic or BootNuke. If that doesn't work, use your warranty because it's probably a motherboard, processor, memory, and or hard drive problem (It's there to use). O_o
