Why bother at all making a movie of a video game if you're not going to follow it? Why not choose a different name? There is nothing wrong with fans of a video game wanting to see a movie with the same title have the same characters and story-line. You're a Silent Hill fan arn't you? You're telling me you wouldn't be just slightly dispointed if the Silent Hill movie was based in an unground facility in Aera 51 where people are breeding evil monsters under project 'Silent Hill', but the town, hell and all that weren't in it.
I'm not saying it's wrong to want to see that, I'm saying it's highly unlikely, so you should not expect to get exactly what you want.
I'm sure even Silent Hill is going to have it's pick of things that aren't exactly like the game. I know that. But after following the progress of the movie for so long, my expectations have grown a LOT.
And as for your example of Silent Hill....I don't think ANYONE is stupid enough to do something like that...not even Uwe Boll.

You give him far too much credit.
I could easily see Boll taking Silent Hill and turning it into a quarrentined town with virus monsters.

That, I could see...but that's not what Talon said.

Feb 3 2006, 09:56 PM
I know, i'm just sayin i could see Boll doing just about anything with a script if he had the chance.
He'll put El Gigantes in Metal Gear Solid.

Man i hate that guy.

Yes, but what I said was an example.

Another example would be Street Fighter. US movie didn't really follow the story and was dire....... the Japanese movie followed the story pretty closely and was fantastic.

I've never seen either of them, so I wouldn't know.

Then again the Japanese are much much better at telling stories than we westerners are.

Na, not really. I can really see how this movie definately wouldn't appeal to alot of people.

Yeah alot of people didn;t like it.
I've never been a big fan of the games and thats probably why i liked the movie alot more than other people did.

Going out to pick up DOOM now.
I'll let you guys know if the extras are any decent.
Neo2005
Feb 7 2006, 10:33 PM
Just picked it up and sorry to take the glory away from you BS but....
The features are lackluster at best.
There is an awesome behind the scenes stuff about he whole FPS sequence which was very cool.
The other stuff is the gaming history of DOOM which was cool.
Then there is a helpfull DOOM 3 video game tips.
Weapon training for the actors.
And if you have a Xbox you can even plug the DVD into it and play a Demo of DOOM 3.
The best part of the DVD by far is the fact that you can choose the elongated FPS sequence and watch the whole thing uncut.
Other than hat it's a pretty basic DVD.

No worries man, it was only just incase no one else had picked it up yet.

Yeah so much for it being 'unrated extended version' since the only thing extended is the FPS scene.

I will still buy it anyways, even if the features aren't that great. I was supposta get it today, but I didn't. Not surprised though, since this always happens.

it's not worth the $28 i paid for it.
But i have no regrets.
NO COMMENTARY is what really pisses me off.
They could have a had some Carmack or something.

I have to say, i really didn't enjoy it as much the second time around.
Man, it really is a silly movie.
However, the very small bits of demon blastin, when they're there, make it at least a decent movie to own.
Neo2005
Feb 8 2006, 10:24 PM
Yeah it does have it's moments.
I do like the BFG although you only see him use it twice and he does more damage to his own teamate with it than he dos the monster.
The coolest part is obviously the FPS sequence.
But the part that i really love....well line really, is when the rock comes out and they start fighting hand-to-hand(which is so UN-DOOM) and the rock says Semper Fi Mother F%$#er!.
Just love that line.
BurnSide
Feb 8 2006, 10:29 PM

But it's so badly given and it's so cliche!!
I really think they could have done so much more with this. The whole freaking movie should have been like the one FPS part, there's too much wondering around and talking doing nothing, not enough action.
Tillghast
Feb 8 2006, 11:59 PM
Well, you never know, they could make a war movie from 1st person perspective, pioneered by Doom of course.

Feb 9 2006, 12:20 AM
Well it looks like I won't be getting this movie, yet again...
If my parents would actually help me finish my driving and get my license, which I should have had months ago, then I could go myself. But noooooo!
Damnit, I hate them.
BurnSide
Feb 9 2006, 12:21 AM
Meh, it'll be there when you get around to it and besides, you're not missing a whole lot.

I have watched the FPS on the DVD a few times and i unfortunately fail to see what's extended about it.

Tell me Burnside since you liked this movie, did you think The Rock(sarge) was any good in it..do you think he made the movie?
Thats the best thing about buying the actual dvd itself..you get to view the extras that come with it..unlike when you download it...not the same

Now that BS mentions it i'm not sure the FPS scene was exteneded at all.
I don;t remember all of it in theaters but i'm pretty certain it was the same thing.
