I think there's been alot cut out for the cinema version of DOOM, i'm sure the DVD will be exceptional.
Neo2005
I hope so.
I'd like to see some weapons more closely examined and some really good behind the scenes documentaries.
I would really like to see the actors doing some comentary like the rock and the guy who plays reaper talking about their experiences.
BurnSide
Did you notice, the guy who plays Reaper is the same dude in Lord of the Rings, Eomer. Eowyn's sister. I thought that was pretty chill.
Neo2005
I honestly don;t recall what he looked like in LOTR.
he did do a great job in DOOM as the totured soul character.
BurnSide
Long blonde hair, abit of a mustache and serious stubble, etc.
He was abit of a one-dimensional character, but played the Doom guy well.
Neo2005
the worst doom character had to be Reapers sister.
She was to predictable and to calm for what was happening.
To planned out for my tastes.
BurnSide
And how the hell did she managed to survive without infection in the same area where hundreds of zombies and monsters are charging at Reaper from every direction??

And then.. the first person mode. My god, it was fantastic. There's a 10-15 min sequence towards the end where we delve into the main characters eyes as he fights and blasts and chainsaws his way through mountains of zombies and demons behind every corner. Oh, it was bliss.

So true... the entire crowd was hailing with joy! grin2.gif

A wonderful tribute to a wonderful game.

If the movie loses points, it's with it's unbelievable, non-game silly end sequence, in which two super-humans, one good one bad, fight to the death. Also, the marines were so screwed up it was to the point of silliness. And there's an interesting twist which is more annoying than anything else.

I agree.
I expected the Rock to turn into the cyber ox demon (forgot it's name), and was kinda disappointed when he stayed somewhat human tongue.gif.

Interesting enough, DOOM arrived to Israel at exactly the same time it was released in the US and Canada, and before it was released in Europe.
I watched it a day after it arrived, on Oct 22.
And oh boy, what a briliant movie thumbsup.gif.

Yeah without a scratch.
That was rediculous.
Maybe room for a sequal with her carrying the virus in her blood something completely far-fetched like her being completely unharmed.
Paranoid Android
Sounds pretty cool by the sound of it. I'll probably watch it some time next week.

In the meantime though, Doom received the worst rating for a movie I've seen in a long time.

Critics rating: 2/10

Quotable quotes:

"Even fans of the famed video game will wince at a careless, boring movie version".

"...Doesn't that (the plot) sound like a bad cross between the 1986 film ht "Aliens" and the more recent "Resident Evil"

"...the finale's imitation video game shots, this is as lifeless as a computer program. The monsters are either unbelievable computer-generated blobs or men in rubber suits; the music is heavy metal muzak"

"...doesn't show you the planet world; the interiors look cardboard. "Doom" has no detail or depth. Even gamers will wonder why they should pay big bucks to see that."

But then again, Rob Lowing is one of the silliest critics I've ever seen. How she's kept her job for so long......?

Regards, PA

Neo2005
I think video game movies are enjoyed more by the people who haven;t played the games.

cause, the main girl always has to live, in almost every movie the main girl lives lol
Neo2005
yeah unfortuantyl that's what always happens.
Directors and writers these days are afraid of killing the main characters.
Talon
Saw it today at a friends house (its not in cinema's here for another 2 months, so he DLed it). While it wont win any 'best movie of the year' awards, it was actually quite fun. I do think its weird though that for the first hour it toned down the action and tried to be more 'whats in the shadows over there' despite comming from a shoot-'em up. Its the complete opposite of RE, which the game was a 'whats in the shadows over there' style game with a shoot-'em up movie.

Easily the best part, however, was the first person mode. It was fantastic. The moment he turned from the mirror and loaded his gun in first-person me and John were screaming 'YES YES YES!'
BurnSide
hahaha i know, i was the same. The whole cinema was practically cheering for it.
Talon
Just wait a few years and we'll actually get a shoot'em-up game which looks that good too yes.gif
Neo2005
When the FP part came on a guy in the back acually yelled out.
"It's about time"!
BurnSide
Well, we all know that's the only reason 75% of the audience saw the movie. original.gif
Neo2005
Yeah.
But i don;t know how they could be dissapointed with what came before it.
Hey BS do you think that C24 is like "god mode"?
BurnSide
No. We know people infected with C24 died, remember the skeleton?

It was more like a blue orb i thought. One that keeps you healthy, doesn't run down.
Neo2005
Yeah that makes sense
I sorta though of like the Quake symbol in Quake when it put you into a hardcore dangerous mode.
BurnSide
You mean Quad Damage?
I guess it could sorta be like that.
Neo2005
^Yes that's what i was thinking.
But it only lasts for a bit of time.
Nadal
Gah...I can't believe I listened to you guys and watched this crappy movie...once back more to hell with Doom and I want my damn money back! sad.gif It didn't stick with the storyline so it wasn't really doom just cheap rip off!
BurnSide
No one ever said it did stick to the story. tongue.gif
No game-movies too. It's always completely different. Still DOOM though, still evil demons, infact i actually liked this story more than a simple 'they're coming from hell!'.

Shakezulah
I agree. I'm sick of people always trashing videogame movies because they never stick to the original story. There needs to be changes for it to be more interesting. I also really like this story more. Just accept it for what it is and you should find it more enjoyable. If you go into a videogame movie expecting it to be exactly like the game, then you're bound to be dissapointed.
Nadal
It was so stereotypical though...the "good guys always win" thing...why don't we win? People Like me?
BurnSide
Because that would be stupid.

So you are some evil person that wants to kill men, women, and children. Whats you address? The cops are on the way. original.gif
Neo2005
Yeah i like going to the theaters and watching a movie and not knowing how it ends.
With any video game movie that's how it should be.
DOOM wasa a great movie because it changed the story but was still DOOM.
BurnSide
I wouldn't say great movie, no one is saying great movie. original.gif But entertaining enough to make it worth the money i spent.
Neo2005
IMO when i go to a movie and spend 8 bucks for a ticket i look for every bit of good in it to make it worth the money.
So just for my benifet call it great just once
BurnSide
lol. Maybe when the DVD comes out. Apparently it was cut quite abit for cinema, there's alot more to it on the DVD version.*crosses fingers*
Neo2005
Yeah i'd be really looking forward to hearing some Carmak commentary on the DVD that would be sweet.
BurnSide
I think the Rocks commentary would be awesome too.
Neo2005
Oh yeah i;d like to hear him and the guy who played reaper talking about their experiences making the movie.
I'd also love to hear John Carmak and the director go head to head.
Mr Ed
Nick Fury and I saw the film yesterday.
I would give it 7/10.

The main problem was to do with Reaper becoming 'super human'. I know he fought Sarge whilst he was turning into a 'demon', but apart from that and the fact that he healed quickly when first injected, you didn't really get a feel that he had actually become super human.

Apart from that a pretty cool film, nice and unpredictable, well I haven't played Doom so I don't know how far it stuck to the storyline (I have heard not a great deal) or if the rest of you saw it coming.
Tillghast
Instead of making a new topic, I decided to be actually noble today.

With the new DVD Unrated Edition coming out, anyone going to buy it. I thought I would, but ill have to see what money I have stashed away.

Thoughts on the new edition?

Why bother at all making a movie of a video game if you're not going to follow it? Why not choose a different name? There is nothing wrong with fans of a video game wanting to see a movie with the same title have the same characters and story-line. You're a Silent Hill fan arn't you? You're telling me you wouldn't be just slightly dispointed if the Silent Hill movie was based in an unground facility in Aera 51 where people are breeding evil monsters under project 'Silent Hill', but the town, hell and all that weren't in it.

I haven't heard anything about the DVD yet. It's an unrated DC version? Good, that means they'll put back in some of the gore they cut. When is it going to be released?

I can;t say anything except good point back to that. thumbsup.gif
Neo2005
The DVD comes out this Tuesday Burns.
I'll be picking it up just to see that FP part again.
BurnSide
$&^^%&*$!!!!!!!!!!!

hahahahah i had NO IDEA. That's awesome, i'm dead excited, i'm picking it up the day off. I just hope it's got some sweet extras.

*goes off to hunt for info*

edit

This doesn't really give any info, but if that's what the case looks like, that really freaking sucks. Bah.
http://www.doommovie.com/
Tillghast
Yea, the front cover sucks.

It got a tour on the monsters and weapons of the movie, commentary with the Rock, and the 'unrated' cut. This is misused alot. As in the case of Alien Vs. Predator 'uncut'. What BS.
BurnSide
Yeah, don't even get me started.

It also has a 'making of' for the FPS portion of the movie, which is also extended in the unrated version. Sweet.
Tillghast
I would have had the Doom cover as this...

It all black, execpt for a blood splatter on the right. And the words D00M at the top.

Now thats what I thought of as coo.
Neo2005
I think it would look pretty awesome if it was in a video game cover box style.
BurnSide
Yeah exactly.
Hell they could have used the DOOM 3 boxart and i would have been happy. Or happier anyway.
Shakezulah
Yeah I'm definately going to buy the DVD. I can't wait for it.
