Super-soldiers may get brain-chip

BOFFINS working for the US military are experimenting with creating super soldiers by sticking microchips in their brains.

Apparently the Pentagon has decided that one of the things its soldiers are missing is brains, or at least the ability to remember details of their training.

Now researchers at the University of Southern California's bio-engineering department have developed a chip which they claim acts in exactly the same way as the hippocampus.

This is the part of the brain that deals with memory and the chip can send out electrical signals which are similar to how it operates.

So far it worked well on rats, and it is hoped that one day experiments will be carried out on soldiers.

Not a bad idea in principle...
The problem is, theres 2 ways of doing things... the way they train you to, and the way that works best in the field.

it will never happen. and i'm pretty sure you will remeber boot camp training. wether you have a chip in your skull or not. thumbsup.gif

and if you cant remeber how to do your job, why you there anyways? huh.gif
Radioactive Man
I would be more interested in battlefield preformance stimulators. You know, like the stuff they give pilots [a form of speed]. Who knows what else is out there....

Yeah like nootropics. Nootropics are usually very safe... I sometimes take vinpocetine and it works great... but there are supposed to be better smart drugs that will be available soon. The more we know about the brain the better we can make it and more safer drugs can be developed.

Some nootropics you can pick up without prescription from supermarkets or any health shops.

I sometimes use this one because it also works on healthy people and is VERY safe.

VINPOCETINE: LONG- AND SHORT-TERM MEMORY, VIGILANCE, CEREBRAL ENERGY
Vinpocetine, an extract of the periwinkle plant, has a powerful stimulating effect on memory function. By enhancing blood flow (hemodynamics) in the brain, vinpocetine increases the rate at which brain cells produce ATP (the primary energy molecule). This speeds up the availability and utilization of both oxygen and glucose (the primary fuel of your brain's neurons) in the brain resulting in enhanced mental performance. The cells of the brain can better retain information; so the individual can remember more. Because of its stimulating effect on blood flow, vinpocetine has been used to treat circulatory problems in the brain and memory problems due to low circulation. The dose range for memory improvement is in the range of 15-40 mg per day with the dose-response curve falling after 40 mg per day.

Back to the brain chip...

I would eventually have one if it benifits me but first I would like to make sure it's very safe first of course. I embrace a future where we can expand our knowledge and become better than we are today. The future I'm looking forward to doesn't seem too far off.

I'm not really interested in that nonsense. They think the RFID chip means the end of the world rofl.gif

So what happens when the enemy at hand gets a hold of an EMP and all our soldiers are back to "stupid"?
