A while back when my cable company came to install my cable modem, the guy told me my Ethernet drivers weren't installed or weren't working. So he installed on USB. Now, sometimes my internet can get really laggy, and I've heard alot of people say that your net runs a bit slower on USB. I searched the net for Eathernet Drivers and I installed some. But each time I tried a different one, my computer acts if Ethernet is working but my internet screws up major and I can't even get online. Does anyone know how to find the correct Ethernet Drivers?

Open up your comp. and locate your Ethernet card. When you find that you should see the manufacturer of it and a number to coincide with the model. Look up the companies website and you should be able to get the drivers directly from the source.... anything else is like mixing oranges and apples.
If your not comfortable with doing that or just don't know how to, see if there is a computer shop near you that builds and repairs PC's and see what they can do for you.
Let me know how that works out.

why on earth would he need to repair his CPU(thats the proccesor you know),the problems with his drivers, to fix this, re-install the software that came with your ethernet card, if you still have it.

Oops... I meant PC.... I always tend to use CPU as short for computer.. when in reality it's the central processing unit... good catch

Yeah well it didn't come with a CD. Computer was bought a long time ago. I'm not good with hardware, mainly software, where is the ethernet card located?

Is there a program I can use to tell me what the manufacturer is? In device manager it says "Ethernet<!>" With a yellow "!". Meaning it's not installed, but I can't find any information on what drivers are needed for it.

Where you plug your internet connection to in the back is where your ethernet card should be. You'll have to open up the thing though to see who made it and the serial number though. What year was the comp. bought in?

wait, maybe the problem is in the connection type. did you switch from one kind of internet(dsl, cable, dialup, etc.) to another kind? if you did you will need to chang your mac address, or buy a new modem, if its from cable.
but if its drivers, i hope its not really old, or you may not get a company name, or serial address.

If your cable modem is a USB type connection, you cannot automatically change that to an RJ-45 ethernet connection, as the cable modem installation software installed it as a USB device.
There are ways around this, but the best advice I would give is to contact your cable modem provider and explain the situation that you wish to resolve. Since you are a paying customer, they will bend over backwards to make certain that you have the correct equipment and device drivers.

Ok, over a year ago when we decided to get cable internet, the internet guy came over. He tried hooking up our cable modem VIA Ethernet. When he tried, it didn't want to work. He told me that he thinks the drivers aren't installed, he said it didn't want to work on Ethernet so he was going to install it on USB.
So, he installed it on USB and it's been working fine ever since. Well, not really, it lags at times and dissconects every few days. But back to the point. I decided it's time to fix my Ethernet to get higher download speeds. I installed new Drivers that I found on www.dell.com. Everything seemed fine, Ethernet light shows up on the modem, online light is on, but when I check my connection status it says "Acquireing network address" then when I check the IP, it's 0.0.0.0.0.0. After a few minutes, an alert pops up saying "Connection has little or no connectivity" or something like that and my internet doesn't work. When I retry with my USB, it says the SAME thing. I had to unintall the drivers for my internet to work properly via USB again.
What in the world to do? I want Ethernet! When I connect VIA USB it says "12MBS", when I connect VIA Ethernet it says "100MBS", so I can see that Ethernet is faster.

the best thing to do is deal with it, or go to a proffesional repair man.

First of all. Don't create two topics about the exact same thing. It's against the forum
Rules. Which I suggest you read.
Secondly. Take it too a damn repair shop or your going to do more bad then good. Trust me on this.

USB internet is slow, get a new network card. Or if you don't want to spend any more money, just find the drivers.
