THE ROLE OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD
PROPHET'S ONLY DUTY
The Quran utilizes "the double negative" to emphasize that the prophet had NO duty EXCEPT delivering the Quran.
"You have NO duty EXCEPT DELIVERING the message." 42:48
"Your ONLY duty is delivering, we will call them to account." 13:40
"The messenger has NO function EXCEPT delivery of the message." 5:99
THE QURAN IS THE MESSAGE
"We have sent down to you a scripture containing YOUR MESSAGE. Do you not understand?" 21:10
MARMADUKE PICKTHALL'S TRANSLATION :
"Thine is ONLY to convey (the message)." 42:48
"..thine is BUT conveyance (of the message)." 13:40
"The duty of the messenger is ONLY to convey (the message)" 5:99
"Now we have revealed unto you a Scripture wherein is YOUR REMINDER." 21:10

"And when you preach your Lord, using the Quran ALONE, they run away in aversion." 17:46

"The messenger said (on the Day of Judgment), "My Lord, my people have DESERTED this Quran." [25:30]
PROPHET MUHAMMAD FORBIDDEN FROM ISSUING RELIGIOUS
INSTRUCTION OTHER THAN THE QURAN
"This is the utterance of an honorable messenger. Not the utterance of a poet; rarely do you believe. Nor the utterance of a soothsayer; rarely do you take heed. A revelation from the Lord of the universe. Had he uttered any other teachings. We would have punished him. We would have stopped the revelations to him." [69:40-46]
PROPHET MUHAMMAD FORBIDDEN FROM
EXPLAINING THE QURAN
"Do not move your tongue to hasten it. It is we who will collect it into Quran. Once we recite it, you shall follow such a Quran. Then it is WE who will explain it." 75:16-19
GOD - TEACHER OF THE QURAN
"The Most Gracious. Teacher of the Quran." 55:1-2
QURAN - FULLY DETAILED AND ONLY
SOURCE OF RELIGIOUS LAW
"Shall I seek other than GOD as a source of law, when He has revealed to you this book fully detailed? Those who received the scripture recognize that it has been revealed from your Lord, truthfully. You shall not harbor any doubt. The word of your Lord is complete, in truth and justice. Nothing shall abrogate His words. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient." 6:114-115
"This Quran could not possibly be authored by other than GOD. It confirms all previous messages, and provides a fully detailed scripture. It is infallible, for it comes from the Lord of the universe." 10:37
OBEYING THE PROPHET IS UPHOLDING
THE QURAN ONLY
Prophet Muhammad obviously was a believer, and as a believer he followed the above verses from the Quran, which came from his own mouth. Now that Muhammad is dead, obeying him is upholding what he upheld. To suggest that Muhammad violated the above verses, by issuing religious laws or following other sources besides the Quran (like the insistence on hadith/sunnah), is to say that Muhammad was a disbeliever.
DEAD, NOT ALIVE
God in His infinite Wisdom, has clarified the meaning of DEAD, a meaning the idolators cannot comprehend. Muhammad is dead. How can you obey a dead man?
"They are DEAD, N O T A L I V E, and they have no idea how or when they will be resurrected." 16:21
Glorifying Muhammed, the truth and the myth
AL-SALAT ALA AL-NABI and AL-TASLEEM
Modified after an article by : A. Muhammed
This very common phrase (AL-SALAT ALA AL-NABI and AL-TASLEEM) derives from the following verse, 33:56:
"God and His angels ‘Yossalloon ala al Nabi’, O you believers you shall ‘Salloo alayhee’ and ‘Sallemoo tasleema’."
Since this is a clear command from God, we must surely obey it. However, and before obeying this command we must first understand the meaning of it. We notice that the verse contained two commands, the ‘Salla ala al Nabi’ and the ‘Tasleem’.
First we should inspect the present interpretation of these words among Muslims today, then we must find out whether this interpretation is in line with the one contained in the Quran. To do this, the easiest method is to ask any Muslim as to what is the meaning of the simple and widely spoken words ‘Salli ala al Nabi’.
Strangely enough, when most Muslims are asked as to what these words mean they are not really sure! The reader is welcomed to try this himself.
The simple question asked is:
‘When you say ‘Salli ala al Nabi’ what do you really mean? Are you praising the prophet? Are you imploring him so that he may intercede on your behalf on judgment day, are you praying God to grant the prophet His highest mercy? or what?
If the common Muslim has not made up his mind as to the meaning of the words he repeats many times a day, what then is the opinion of the the interpreters?
First they will say that God has exclusively honored Muhammad when He said :
"God and His angels Yossalloon ala al Nabi (for the prophet)"
Immediately, their claim is exposed by Quranic evidence. In the Quran we read that God and His angels do the same to all believers and not just to the prophet:
"He is the one who ‘Yessallee alaikom’ (for the believers) and His angels, to deliver you out of darkness into the light" 33:43
we also read :
"These (the believers) have deserved ‘Sallawat’ from their Lord and mercy, they are the guided ones." 2:157 … again the same meaning, but the matter does not end there, in Sura 9 we find God commanding the prophet to do the same for the believers :
"Take from their money a charity to purify them and sanctify them, and ‘Salli alaihom’ for your ‘Sallawat’ reassures them. God is Hearer, Omniscient." 9:103
Now if this verb ‘Yessalli’ is done by Allah to the believers, also by the prophet to the believers, how can the interpreters say that it is an exclusive honor bestowed by God on the prophet?!!!
To verify that let us study the use of the word ‘Sallat’ in the Quran. Immediately we find that the word ‘Sallat’ has been mentioned in the Quran in two different context :
a- The ‘Sallat’ for Allah, which is an act of worship, as used in the following verse :
"I am God; there is no other God beside Me, Thus you shall worship me and observe the ‘Salat’ to commemorate Me." 20:14
b- The ‘Sallat’ of the prophet on the believers or of the believers on the prophet as mentioned in previous verses.
The difference between the two uses of the same word all depends on the letter or the word that comes immediately after the word ‘Salat’.
The word ‘Salat’ is either followed by the Arabic letter ‘L’ which means (to, for) as in:
"……..observe the ‘Salat’ to commemorate Me." (Sura 20, verse 14)
This first use, means the act of prayer, which is done exclusively for God.
The word ‘Salat’ can also be followed by the Arabic word ‘Ala’ which means (on) as in all the previous verses.
Now, if ‘Salat for’ means the act of worship of God, what is the meaning of the word ‘Salat on’ as the one done for the prophet or the believers?
Going back to (Sura 33, verse 56), and since the two verbs (Yossalloon and Salloo) are used in the same verse, without any insinuation of a change in meaning, then by logic they must have the same meaning.
Consequently, when God informs us that He and the angels (Yossalloon ala al Nabi), then in the same sentence commands us to do the same, we must understand that it is of the same meaning.
Here we reach the heart of the matter. What is the meaning of (Sallat ala al Nabi) that can be done by God and by the believers equally? The same thing that is done by God must be done by the believers, as per the previous example.
The only meaning for the words ‘Sallat ala al Nabi’ that is found in the Quran and that can apply to God, His angels and to the believers alike is to ‘support the prophet’. God and His angels indeed support the prophet and by the same token God commands the believers to support His prophet. This correct meaning is confirmed by Quranic verses :
1- God supports His prophet :
[48:1] We have bestowed upon you (O Messenger) a great victory.
[48:2] Whereby GOD forgives your past sins, as well as future sins, and perfects His blessings upon you, and guides you in a straight path.
[48:3] Additionally, GOD will support you with an unwavering support.
2- The angels commanded by God to support the prophet :
[3:124] You told the believers, "Is it not enough that your Lord supports you with three thousand angels, sent down?"
3- Believers commanded to support the prophet of God :
[59:8] (You shall give) to the needy who immigrated. They were evicted from their homes and deprived of their properties, because they sought GOD's grace and pleasure, and because they supported GOD and His messenger. They are the truthful.
See also; 9:40 and 7:157
It is clear from these verses that God commands believers to do three things regarding His prophet :
1- To believe in him.
2- To support him.
3- To obey and follow his message (the Quran).
Thus the correct meaning of the words ‘Sallat ala al Nabi’ is to support the prophet. Since the prophet is now dead and no longer with us then it is not possible to support him personally. The support now is directed to his message which is the Quran.
With that correct meaning of the word, it is right to think that when God ‘Yessallee ala al Momeneen’ it means He supports them and guides them out of the darkness. This meaning is indeed confirmed in the verse :
"He is the one who ‘Yessallee alaikom’ (supports you), together with His angels, to lead you out of the darkness into the light." 33:43
Similarly when God and His angels ‘Yessalloo ala al Nabi’ it is in the sense that He supports the prophet together with His angels. God does not go around repeating the words ‘Sallee ala al Nabi’, ‘Sallee ala al Nabi’ !!!
Similarly when the prophet ‘Yessalle ala al Momeneen’ (believers), as God commanded him in (Sura 9, verse 103), it is in the sense, that is he is to support them. Obviously God’s command to His prophet in this verse does not mean that the prophet should go around saying ‘Sallee ala Zeid’, ‘Sallee ala Ali’, ‘Sallee ala Belal’ !!
If this is the correct meaning of the words ‘Sallat ala al Nabi’, then what is the meaning of the word ‘Tasslleem’ as in ‘Wa sallemoo tasleema’ (Sura 33, verse 56)?
Sadly, the corrupted interpreters have found another corrupted meaning to these words as well. They claim that these words are a command from God to salute the prophet and send him our greetings! This is based on their false interpretation of the word ‘Tasleema’ to mean greetings!
This is contrary to the meaning of the word in the Quran where " Tasleem" means recognition and acceptance.
As in the subject of this search (33:56)
The word ‘Taslleem’ is found in only three verses in the Quran, and in all three verses it means to recognize and endorse:
[4:65] Never indeed, by your Lord; they are not believers unless they come to you to judge in their disputes, then find no hesitation in their hearts whatsoever in accepting your judgment. They must submit a total submission.‘Yessallemoo Taslleema’
[33:22] When the true believers saw the parties (ready to attack), they said, "This is what GOD and His messenger have promised us, and GOD and His messenger are truthful." This (dangerous situation) only strengthened their faith and augmented their submission. (Iman and Taslleem)
[33:56] "God and His angels ‘Yessalloo ala al Nabi’ (support him). O you who believe you shall ‘Salloo alayhee’ (support him) and Sallemoo Taslleema , ( fully recognize him and accept him as the messenger of God)."
A very simple and effective way of proving that the word ‘Tasslleem’ means recognition and not greetings as the corrupters would have us believe, is to substitute each of these two words, first (recognition), then (greetings) in place of the word ‘Tasslleem’ in each of the previous verses and see which one of the two words make more sense.
The correct meaning of verse 56 of Sura 33 is thus:
[33:56] GOD and His angels help and support the prophet. O you who believe, you shall help and support him, and regard him as he should be regarded.
Indeed it makes perfect sense that God should command the believers to support His prophet and totally accept him rather than to be primarily concerned in people going around saying (Sallee ala al Nabi) without understanding what it really means and sending our greeting to the prophet who is dead and can no longer hear us, (see Sura 35, verse 14).
This accurate and precise meaning is asserted and authenticated in 7:157
[7:157] "...... Those who believe in him (prophet) , respect him, support him, and follow the light that came with him are the successful ones."
This verse includes all that God commanded us to do for the prophet :
1- To believe in him, which corresponds to (Sallemoo Tasleema) in 33:56
2- To support him which correspond to (Salloo Alayhee) in the same verse.
3- To obey him (to follow the message that was revealed to him, which is the Quran).
This is what God commands any people to do for their prophet, whether they are the people of Moses, Jesus or Muhammad.
The importance of this last verse is profound since it exposes the corrupted interpretation of three prime concepts :
1- ‘Sallemmo Tasllemma’ is a command from God to the believers to recognize and believe in His prophet, it is not a command from God for them to send him greetings!!!
2- ‘Salloo Alayhee’ is a command from God to the believers to support His prophet, it is not a command to the believers to go around like parrots repeating ‘Salli ala al Nabi’ without even knowing what it means!
3- To obey the prophet is a command from God to the believers to follow the light (Quran) that He has revealed to His prophet (7:157), it is not a command to follow that which is falsely attributed to the prophet, and called his Sunna, and which was never mentioned in the Quran, not even once! The only Sunna authorized in the Quran is the Sunna of God.
The difference between
'Prophet' and 'Messenger'
according to the Quran
"The Most Gracious, teacher of the Quran" 55:1-2
With this promise in mind, one has to remember that the teaching of God is the BEST teaching, and the knowledge given by God is the most accurate knowledge. All the teachings or knowledge given by the human beings can be compared to that given by God and only those teachings which agree with the teachings of God can be accepted as truth, irrespective of how many scholars agree or disagree with it. As God promised, those who will not accept the words of God in the Quran will not have access to understanding the Quran. They have shields placed around their hearts and deafness in their ears.6:25, 17:46 and 18:57
"Who is more wicked than one who is reminded of the proofs of His Lord, then disregard them, while unaware of his sin ? Consequently, we place shields on their hearts, to prevent them from understanding (Quran), and deafness in their ears. Thus, if you invite them to the guidance, they can NEVER EVER be guided." 18:57
One of the issues that always comes up when discussing the Quran is the issue of the definition of the Prophet (Nabi) and the definition of the messenger (Rasoul). As a believer would imagine, NO ONE can define these better than the One who sent them both, the prophets and the messengers. It is interesting to note that the definition of the prophet and messenger is very clear in the Quran. Most of the scholars, and their followers, however, do not accept the definition given by God and instead accept the definition they gave themselves or given in the dictionary by older scholars.
Believing in God means to believe Him and accept His teaching and His word. Choosing the scholars or the dictionary over God reflects a disbelief in God and His word (Quran). God called this kind of practice, idol-worship.
"They have set up their religious leaders and scholars as lords; instead of God....." 9:31
God's Definition of
PROPHET and MESSENGER
(Nabi and Rasoul)
In 3:81 God described exactly the function of the Prophet (Nabi) and the function of the Messenger (Rasoul). Both definitions come in the middle of a very important verse that is dealing with the Messenger of the Covenant. For the sincere believer both definitions are clear and well described by the Teacher of the Quran, the Most Gracious.
"God took a covenant from the PROPHETS, saying, "I will give you the SCRIPTURE AND WISDOM. Afterwards, a MESSENGER will come to CONFIRM all existing scriptures. You shall believe in him and support him." He said, "Do you agree with this, and pledge to fulfill this covenant?" They said, "We agree." He said, "You have thus borne witness, and I bear witness along with you." 3:81
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall translated 3:81 as follows:
"When Allah made (His) covenant with the PROPHETS, (He said): Behold that which I have GIVEN you of the SCRIPTURE AND KNOWLEDGE. And afterward there will come unto you a MESSENGER, CONFIRMING that which ye possess. Ye shall believe in him and ye shall help him. He said: Do ye agree, and will ye take up My burden (which I lay upon you)in this (matter)? They answered: We agree. He said: Then bear witness. I will be a witness with you."
Verse 3:81, among many other verses, provides the definitions of "Nabi" (Prophet) and "Rasoul" (Messenger). Thus, "Nabi" is a messenger of God who delivers a new scripture, while "Rasoul" is a messenger commissioned by God to confirm existing scripture; he does not bring a new scripture. According to the Quran, every "Nabi" is a "Rasoul," but not every "Rasoul" is a "Nabi." It is not logical that God will give a scripture to a prophet, then ask him to keep it exclusively for himself, as stated by some Muslim "scholars" (2:42, 146, 159).
The Quranic definition of Prophet, and how all the prophets were given Scripture to deliver, is also confirmed in the following verse:
"The people used to be one community when God sent THE PROPHETS as bearers of good news, as well as warners. HE SENT DOWN WITH THEM THE SCRIPTURE, bearing the truth, to judge among the people in their disputes" 2:213
Those who are not sufficiently familiar with the Quran tend to think that Aaron was a "Nabi" as stated in 19:53, who did not receive a scripture. This claim can only be made by those who do not believe the Quran, since God ascertains in 2:213 that all the prophets were sent with the Scripture. Moreover, the Quran clearly states that the Torah was given specifically "to both Moses and Aaron" (21:48, 37:117).
In other terms ALL THE PROPHETS are MESSENGERS, but NOT ALL the MESSENGERS are PROPHETS.
MORE PROOFS from the Quran
PROPHETHOOD AND SCRIPTURE
Whenever God mentions prophethood in the Quran, He mentions scripture and sometimes wisdom. The association of prophethood and scripture cannot be missed except by those blocked by God from seeing the truth. The following are some examples:
"Never would a human being whom GOD blessed with the scripture and prophethood say to the people, "Idolize me beside GOD." Instead, (he would say), "Devote yourselves absolutely to your Lord alone," according to the scripture you preach and the teachings you learn." 3:79
"Those were the ones to whom we have given the scripture, wisdom, and prophethood. If these people disbelieve, we will substitute others in their place, and the new people will not be disbelievers." 6:89
"We granted him Isaac and Jacob, we assigned to his descendants prophethood and the scriptures, we endowed him with his due recompense in this life, and in the Hereafter he will surely be with the righteous." 29:27
"We have given the Children of Israel the scripture, wisdom, and prophethood, and provided them with good provisions; we bestowed upon them more blessings than any other people." 45:16
"We sent Noah and Abraham, and we granted their descendants prophethood and the scripture. Some of them were guided, while many were wicked." 57:26
MESSENGER PROPHET and not, PROPHET MESSENGER:
The first example for messenger prophet comes from 7:157, and 7:158 where God described the Prophet Muhammed as, "the messenger the prophet" and not as "the prophet the messenger," not a coincidence, [God does not have coincidences]. The reason is that not every messenger is a prophet and therefore the word PROPHET is used to further define and clarify the description of that messenger.
"follow the messenger, the prophet (gentile prophet) (Muhammed), whom they find written in their Torah and
Gospel . . . " 7:157
"..........therefore you shall believe in God and His messenger, the prophet (gentile prophet), who believes in God and His words. Follow him, that you may be guided." 7:158
MOSES, THE MESSENGER PROPHET:
In 19:51, Moses was described by God as a messenger prophet (Rasoulan Nabyya), and NOT as a prophet messenger (Nabyyan Rasoula).
ISMAIL, THE MESSENGER PROPHET
In 19:54, Ismail is described with the same words, 'Rasoulan Nabyyan'.
The reason is that, NOT every Rasoul (Messenger) is a Nabi (Prophet), BUT every Prophet (Nabi) is a Messenger (Rasoul), so God defined the word Rasoul by adding to it Nabyya. God does not make mistakes and He does not choose His words haphazard, it is meant to be in this order.
OTHER EXAMPLES are found in the Quran to clarify this description:
HUMAN BEING MESSENGER:
"Am I more than a human messenger (Basharan Rasoula)" 17:93
Notice, " a human messenger" and NOT "a messenger human (Rasoulan Bashara)."
The reason is that not every Bashar (human) is a Rasoul (messenger) while every Rasoul (messenger) from among us is a Bashar (human).
17:94, has the same expression again, human messenger (Basharan Rasoula), not (Rasoulan Bashara)
ANGEL MESSENGER:
" . . . we would have sent to them from the sky an angel messenger (Malakan Rasoula)" 17:95
Notice, "an angle messenger" and NOT "a messenger angel (Rasoulan Malaka). The reason is that not every angel is a messenger but every messenger FROM God's soldiers is an angel.
SAINT PROPHET:
In 19:41, God described Abraham as "a Siddiqan Nabyya (Saint Prophet)" and NOT as a Nabyyan Siddiqa, (Prophet Saint). The reason is that not every Siddiq (Saint ) is a prophet, while every prophet is a siddiq.
If God would say, Abraham was a Nabbyan Siddiqua (prophet saint), this would indicate that not every prophet is a saint while every saint is a prophet.
In 19:56, God described the prophet Idris the same way, as a Siddiquan Nabyya (Saint prophet).
NO WHERE in the whole Quran does God use these terms different. God never described a prophet as a prophet messenger ( Nabbyan Rasoula), or prophet saint (Nabyyan Siddiqua).
'MESSENGER NOR A PROPHET' :
Perhaps one of the strongest indications in the Quran that the words prophet and messenger do not have the same meaning, is found in the following verse:
"We did not send before you any MESSENGER NOR A PROPHET, without having the devil interfere in his wishes. GOD then nullifies what the devil has done. GOD perfects His revelations. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise." 22:52
If the words prophet and messenger had the same meaning God would not be saying "MESSENGER NOR A PROPHET" ...... would He ? Had the two words had exactly the same meaning , then mentioning one of them would have been sufficient.
---------------------------------------
The Quran is clear that EVERY PROPHET (NABI) IS A MESSENGER (RASOUL) BUT NOT EVERY MESSENGER IS A PROPHET.
Now that we have the definition of Prophet (Nabi) and Messenger (Rasoul) by God Almighty Himself, the Teacher of the Quran, NO SCHOLAR's opinion can change that fact. We, however are FREE to side with God or side with the scholars. Generations before you did just that and were described by God in the Quran in 9:31:
"They have set up their religious leaders and scholars as lords, instead of God . . . "
This kind of idol-worship is leading only to one place, and it is not Heaven"

Prophet Muhammed's Marriage to Aisha
We received this question from one of our web site visitors. It has been repeated enough to post it as one of our articles.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the name of God, the most gracious and the most merciful.
Greetings,
For the sake of information only, I would like to ask you to kindly provide
me with information on the prophet Muhammad's marriage with Aisha. I have
heard that the holy prophet married her when she was six, and consummated
the marriage when she was nine (nine!). How true, and sensible is this?
Secondly, where in Quran is the age for marriage for girls (and/or boys)
mentioned? Quran is complete. Thus it must contain everything.
Thank you for your help.
All the guidance is from GOD.

The source of the above information can only be the Hadiths books which are nothing but lies attributed to prophet Muhammad. It has no support in Quran. It does not make practical sense. Any person at the age of six is still a child who is incapable of taking crucial decisions which are essential for marriage under Quranic guidance, like taking solemn pledge, ascertaining mutual attraction, agreeing to the dowry (including adjustment thereto), ascertaining whether the opposite person is an idol worshipper or not and many other issues. Further, marriage involves taking serious responsibilities on the part of both the spouses concerning the upbringing of the family, which a child of the age of 6 or 8 or whatever is incapable of taking.
God commanded us in the Quran not to accept any Hadith but the Quran. The prophet Muhammed himself ordered his followers not to write any hadiths and to write only the Quran. You will find a rich source of information regarding the corruption of Hadith books and how they insult the prophet Muhammed, insult God Almighty and insult this great religion on our web site at;
http://www.submission.org/hadith/ All the stories circulating on the Internet and in the hadiths books about Aisha's marriage at age of 6 or 9, are no more than lies found in the corrupted books of Hadiths and completely contradict the teachings of the prophet Muhammed that came from his mouth, the Glorious Quran. We only need to read the Quran to know how false these stories are.
<<Secondly, where in Quran is the age for marriage for girls (and/or boys)
mentioned? Quran is complete. Thus it must contain everything.>>
Yes, God says His scripture - Quran the final testament is perfect (18:2), fully detailed, complete in truth and justice (6:114-115), containing the explanations for everything (16:89), and in which every matter of wisdom is clarified (44:4). Please see
http://www.submission.org/quran/every.html .
All information relevant to our salvation and our eternal life in the Hereafter is contained in the Quran. The true believers accept, without hesitation, God's assertion: ``We did not leave anything out of this book.'' Therefore if something cannot be found in the Quran, it is only because God knows it is not directly related to our salvation per se It is left out because God out of His mercy left it to us to decide for ourselves how to do it in a manner most pleasing to God and to our community, since we will be living in different communities with different customs and traditions. We should not by any mean or at any price violate God's laws to please our community or our families. God always has to be FIRST.
Some people challenge God's assertion that the Quran is complete, perfect and fully detailed, and they ask questions such as: "But the Quran doesn't say how to cut my nails, or how to sleep, or how to do this and that? I need to know how to do this." The reason why these matters are not mentioned in the Quran, is because they have no importance whatsoever for our salvation, and has absolutely nothing to do with our religion.
God clearly says in 5:6 that He made the religion easy for us. Unfortunately there are so many out there, who are doing their very best to make it difficult.
Coming to your question "where in Quran is the age for marriage for girls (and/or boys) mentioned?", it is not mentioned by numbers in the Quran, but God establishes big clear standards that indicate that marriage can happen when maturity was achieved. As we all know maturity varies from one continent to another, from the hot countries to the cold ones, from one sex to another, and from one civilization to another. God knows that and he deliberately and out of His mercy, did not put an age rule for us. He left it for every community to decide while following the general rules of maturity supplied in the Quran.
As we said before marriage means taking crucial decisions which are essential for a long marital life as per Quran, like taking solemn pledge, ascertaining mutual attraction, agreeing to the dowry (including adjustment thereto), ascertaining whether the opposite person is an idol worshipper or not and many other issues. Further, marriage involves taking serious responsibilities on the part of both the spouses concerning the upbringing of the family, which needs a degree of maturity that can best be judged by the people closer to the individual getting married.
As stated above, with regard to things not specified in the Quran, it does not make any difference to do what one wishes to do as long as the law/s decreed for us in the Quran is/are not violated.
Please visit
http://www.submission.org/women/marriage.html and
http://www.submission.org/women/marriage-q.html for details regarding marriage per Quran. What would be blasphemous and incorrect would be to falsely attribute ones wish / choice to God. In other words, if one prefers XYZ and then claims that God's law is XYZ ,then that would amount to attributing lies to God which is strongly condemned in Quran.
[6:21]
Who is more evil than one who lies about GOD, or rejects His revelations? The transgressors never succeed.
[29:68]
Who is more evil than one who fabricates lies and attributes them to GOD, or rejects the truth when it comes to him? Is Hell not a just retribution for the disbelievers?
I hope the above is helpful, Insha Allah.
Peace
