Hey! Is anyone here into beading? Might sound boring, but I have a lot of fun creating pieces using semi-precious gemstones.
Besides using semi-precious gemstones, I love ethnic beads, old trading beads, and such.
Man. I sound like such a loser.

Beading. Now that's a new word to me. Is that when you make necklaces and stuff from beads? In that case I'm into it! grin2.gif I've got a bunch of bracelets I made just a li'l while ago, the only problem is I don't use any kind of accessories unless I really feel like it, which isn't very often... blush.gif
But I like making 'em, so... Mebbe I should start selling 'em...?

Don't feel like an loser!!! Being creative is incredible!

I used to bead a lot -- made elaborate necklaces/earrings -- until my son knocked over my beading box. After picking up about 10,000 tiny beads, I never want to see one again. original.gif

Right now I'm into medieval tapestry making. How boring does that sound?? LOL!

I think that creating of any kind is wonderful. Painting, drawing, poetry, music etc. We have a bead shop here and you can buy crystals and beads and make your own jewellry. I need to get down there because my son accidently broke my crystal bracelet the other day. Hmmm....

There's bead shop here in Stockholm too, where they've got these amazing beads made by Swarowski. They glitter like multicoloured diamonds, and if I had the money I'd buy tons of 'em and decorate to my room with... *dreamy*

Yay that is awesome.

My step mom does this and so does my friend Jose.

I had to string beads the other day. It was so tedious. My dexterity skills are lacking but I get the hang of it after the fourth or fifth string

I bead . . . well used to, but my Aunt is a 'beader' - Native American Arts & Crafts. I was never into making solid beaded items, such as moccasins, purses, barrettes, etc. I only made necklaces and earrings.

Okeeeey!

Anyway, I think that tapestries are interesting. A family friend made a wall-sized tapestry from hand-dyed threads. That would be fascinating to dye all of the threads with natural herbal-based dyes. She must have had some patience to do the whole lot!!

Welcome to UM Lady Deathstrike.
Too bad you had to say this as your first post........

@ Famous Monster: Don't consider yourself boring, or a loser. As someone else has said, creativity in any form is a wonderful and special talent.

While I don't bead, I do paint and write. My daughter, is a beading fanatic! and it teaches her patience and planning.

Good Journey

Yeah, but no one asked for your opinion.

I bought a most amazing painting the other day. It is of a man who lives in a garbage bin area in Brisbane Australia, called Ziggy. Apparently he has a documentary made of him.

It is just a painting of his face, but it looks exactly like Galdalf from Lord of the Rings. It is all white hair, beard and an amazing expression on his face like he is about to impart great wisdom. It reminds me of god, jesus, thor, a spirit, a native american older man, a wizard.

The colours are beautiful and rainbowy. And it literally puts my spirit into another plane when I am looking at it. Extraordinary!

beading is a GREAT hobby to have, famousmonster!
not only do you have something to occupy your time, you also get some excellent jewelry as well!
anyone ever make bead earrings?
FamousMonster
Thanks so much for all the support and input! It's a spirit lifter, for sure. I'm afraid my beading habbit is out of control-I start into it and before I know it, I have a load of stuff, and nothing to do with it!
For those of you who asked, yes, definately sell your stuff! You'd be surprised at how much you can get for it. I've had small pieces of my stuff on consignment for up to 80.00 a shot when it only cost me about 5 to make (No, I didn't price my own items, the shop-keep did. I'd have been thrilled to get twenty five out of a whole set!).
If any of you would like something beaded, just let me know. I make way more than I ever wear...

Lady Deathstrike-welcome to the site here. It's a good place with good people, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
Anything you do for fun and relaxation does have a point-it's a good way to express ones self.
Oh, besides beading, I'm also a psychology major.
Would you care for an appointment to help with that anti-social problem you've got there?
Euphoric Deception
I was into something similar. I used to make necklaces out of hemp, I'd sell them for $5 each to my friends or anyone who wants one.

It's not at all boring, i wish i was able to do it, i tried many years ago but didn't have the patience for it. so now i stick to writing and i also love knitting original.gif although i can only make stripey blankets and scarfs,
