is it a Cadillac?
No, it's a Tucker 48. (AKA Tucker Torpedo)
Preston Tucker thought up the car company, because he felt that American cars were unsafe and needed to be changed. The car featured a third center headlight, that turned with the steering wheel (only recently have some cars started to use this), a windshield that would pop out in an accident, preventing the driver from being thrown trough the glass, and a safety frame that surrounded the passenger compartment.
0-60 m.p.h. 10.0 sec.
Top speed 119 m.p.h. at Sebring, 1956
30-35 mpg
(Not great today, but amazing in 1947)
Due to false allegations started by newspapers, GM, and Ford, Tucker almost immediately went out of business in 1948. Only 51 Tucker 48's were ever made.
