Forgive the ignorance, folks-

but i seem to recall reading an article over at FT abou how both moons dissappeared
for no apparent reason.
Anyone know what all this was about?

Okay, I've been Googling and can't find anything about the two moons disappearing. I went to Fortean Times and did a search. Are you perhaps referring to the theory that Mars once had a very large moon that "disappeared" and left the remnants we now know as Phobos and Deimos? Anyway, here's the FT article I did come across.
