Today is Veterans Day in the United States, and Rememberance Day in Canada.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all Veterans for serving their country in time of peace, as well as war.
It it these citizens who, answering their nations call to service, allow the rest of us the security to enjoy the fruits of liberty and freedom.
So, to all who have served: Thank you for your service.
If you know a Veteran, tell him or her, thanks.
Its the least you can do.

Here. Here.
They are our forgotten heroes.

Its a shame that we only remember and show appreciation for them once a year.

In Australia, we just had Remembrance Day, in memory of those who fought and died in World War I. A minute's silence at 11am on 11/11.
Unfortunately for me, and I find this quite rude, a delivery man knocked on my door at 10:59 as the bugle was playing the Last Post/Reveille on the radio.
But the day's still the same. We should thank and remember those hero's of yester-year, who gave up their freedoms to ensure ours.
Regards, PA

I'm going to edit the topic title. it's an important day for Rememberance in alot of countries besides just the US and Canada, as Walken pointed out, so instead fo having topics for different areas, we can all use the same.

At least it's nice to know that it actually means something to some people...

It is so strange to think that today at Eleven o'clock the entire country was silent...
It really makes you think.

I think you're forgetting that it's Rememberance day in Britain and Australlia.

No, I didn't forget, I was unaware. Thank you for pointing it out to me though.
I think you could have done so in a politer form, but I'll not argue the point.
However, I am somewhat disappointed that with the 'thousands' of members on this board, there have only been 10 responses to this, and two of them were not in the spirit of the thread.
One was a rude reminder that no one is perfect, and the other an administrative 'correction.

Those who serve give more than people realize. They put their lives on hold for the rest of us. They put their country ahead of families. They miss out on what most people take for granted because they answer their country's call. To me this is my favorite holiday.

Not to the delivery man who banged on my door. And not to the builders at star child's school.
But yeah. I think its an important day. I don't think we do enough for our veterans - we have, what? one day a year to remember them.

Dear God
Rest thy souls of those Brave enough to stand for a cause,
Brave enough to fight for their beliefs,
And Brave enough to fight die for their families, their countries, and their people,
Make thy reward great in Heaven for those who are not with us, and for those whose turn to pass has not come yet,
O great and loving Father, heal their pains of war, and protect them from sin and violence,
Thy Lord, grant them peace and assure them their rightful place in heaven, as they are truly the your Children.
In the name of our Father, his Son, and the Holy Spirit,
We say AMEN…
WE SALUTE YOU,
The members of the U.M. Forums, and the Whole of Humanity,
P.S.- sorry if anyone reading this is not Christian…feel free to post your own prayers

Yesterday I was downtown, playing with my Regimental Pipe Band at our citys Remembrance day ceramony. Feet are sore, and im tired, but I never feel better than after doing that parade.
Thank you Veterans, new and old and everywhere.

The Remembrance Day crede for the ANZAC's:
"They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them. Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.
Lest we forget."
Lest we forget!

In Flander's Fields
By John McCrae
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Indeed. Many were unwillingly drafted...pressed with stress as they were transported to the local airport...flew to a training fort to learn 4 months of training...psst....travel to Alaska...then Japan...finaly...insight came Vietnam and all its ....green splendor outside the port windows. Closer....closer they got. Fear overcame the recruits as the plane landed with little difficulty. Stepping out to hear the rabeling of the wildlife...the birds calling...the bugs buzzing. Mosquitoes attack the new comers without mercy...issued their tools of war...they move further into the green abyss.
