The green dot just kepted going around in circles, did that happen to anyone?

"The green dot just kepted going around in circles"

Exactly, and the pink dots disapear.

Thats a good one, I love illusions. thumbsup.gif

The pink dots disappeared, all that I could see was the green dot going around in circles, and the red underscore appearing whenever the green passed over it.

*thinks to himself: Shut up, shut up, shut up! Don't even think about it! There is no need for you to make any sarcastic comment!*

You know, looking at the picture, I've come to the conclusion that there isn't a green dot at all yes.gif

If you concentrate on the moving dot, you'll find it's only purple dots disappearing.

In our human perception, purple and green are opposites, and, I think the green dot is just our mind perceiving an afterimage of the disappearing purple......

Just a thought. I haven't worked out why the dots dissappear though, except perhaps our mind is geared to block out erroneous data, but.... I just don't know about that.

I went back to the LINK to try to see what you were saying, and your right the green dot does disapear, but I think that is because if you focus on the purple dot only the green dot goes past so quickly you can nolonger see it.

I dont think I explained that very well?

Perhaps there are two illusions in one? wacko.gif

Here is an explanation from a guy who explained this on another forum I like to visit. He is a science teacher.

QUOTE
OK...here's the scientific explanation for those who care:

The phenomenon is called adaptation. It has to do with sensory cells. A good example is when you wear a hat. When you first put it on, you feel it, after a little while, you cant feel it there anymore. Then when you take it off, it feels like its still there. Those touch receptors in your scalp have adapted to the presence of the hat.

In the eyes its a bit different. There are two kinds of sensory cells in the eye...rods and cones. Rods are responsible for low light vision, and cones are responsible for color and acuity in bright light. Our eyes sense three colors...red, blue, and green. Everything else is some combination, or partial combination of those three. Yes, I know the three primary colors are red, yellow and blue, but trust me, the eyes sense red, blue and green. As the cones are bombarded by the pink as you stare, they become "bleached". They have adapted to the pink and so only the green and blue sensors are still active. Green is the complimentary color to red (or pink). So the dot appears to turn green. It is still pink, but our eyes are seeing its "negative" counterpart. All the dots except the blinking one eventually disappear for the same reason...they are being adapted out. The blinking one stays because every time it blinks, it stimulates the receptor cells to re-acquire it. Pretty cool, huh?
