why do ghosts haunt people this is a subject that realy intrests me can any 1 help what is the purpose for them to haunt

but seriously this depends on what do you interpret that ghosts are. if they are spirits of the dead, then they probably havent compleated everything they should have while they were alive. and if theyre just something like a diferent life form or some energy with conciousness, then theyre probably aint haunting at all, just doing there stuff that seems scary to people

What is haunting?

99% of ghosts just move around as if they belong there, an echo from the past. If they could talk they would probably say they were'nt haunting, just going about their business.

I don't know, if ghosts can realize they're dead (maybe the ycan...maybe they can't, I'm not gonna argue either way) I don't see why they wouldn't haunt people. I know I would.

Well, a good explanation would be viewed as there not ghosts, but demons and angels, see, demons are powerful beings that can break a human soul either if they let them or they invite them in somehow, sometimes demons will go after people that believe in god or have a faith of somekind in him, demons go for the negative, but will also attack the positive, does this make any sense?

I would haunt people for fun/out of boredom, but that's me. Maybe they are just people who can't let go of life, and refuse to accept death.

I'm generally pretty skeptical about hauntings/ghosts, but on a case by case basis. There have been a lot of wierd occurences, even with family members.

Maybe sometimes it's all about having a connection.

i believe that just like in the movies in some cases if we can see them mabey that makes them want to follow us around who knows mabey were ghosts to them and they only see us once and a while ya never know

Spirits usually come into our homes if there connected to us or the building. People often mistake this as a haunting when really there just dropping by. Ghosts haunt for a number of reasons they may be grounded where they can’t move on. They might haunt if they have very strong connections with the building and feel your intruding on them. Sometimes it is because of the location like a house on top of a burial site so your bound to witness paranormal activity. There have been cases when people claim to be haunted through a Ouija board were the spirit has followed them. Most of the time there not exactly haunting its just the spirits way of saying im still around.

I think they seem to be haunting because their sense of time is different from ours. For us, it may seem that a certian ghost's been there for hundreds of years (like the kinds that haunt castles), but for them, they may only feel it as a few hours or days. They're just hanging around the places they used to call home, is what I think.

it's probably because the ghosts don't know that they're haunting people...... i dunno..... or maybe they're seeking for help especially for lost souls....

i don't think they want help, maybe heaven is too boring for them.

In terms of the "ghosts not knowing that they are dead" theory, could we assume if we can see them at times, they then can see us? And if that is the case, and they are "haunting" their old homes, businesses and so on, wouldn't they then find it odd, that people (us that see them or the people they see) continually ignore them? Wouldn't you twig that something was up if people continually ignored and didn't interact with you? So I think, based on my weak assumptions, the "ghosts don't know they are dead" theory doesn't hold water.

The Navajo (and other athabaskan tribes, iirc) have very strong beliefs about the dead and ghosts. There is a very strict behaviour code in regards to the death of a loved one to prevent the return of the spirit. It's believed by some that when a person dies, their soul is split in half. One part moves back into what would be considered, I suppose, the "great spirit" and the other half may or may not depart as well. If there is too much grieving or the body of the person isn't buried properly then the risk is that this other half, which is considered to be full of ill will, may remain. So, the belief is that ghosts exist because they were not treated properly in death.

This belief is so strong that for a long time the Navajo would abandon and destroy a home if somebody died in it. They would block the door, which always faces east and create a hole in the northern side of the home as north was the direction of evil among other things. That way, an earthbound spirit would not be able to continue to inhabit the home because they would not be able to find their way in and if they were, they'd be forced to go in the direction that they should've in the first place.

I guess a Navajo would say that overt and dramatic grieving, mishandling/overhandling of the deceased, and inhabiting the dwelling that they had died in would be all causes for a ghost to haunt.

We all need attention...dead or alive...

Easy, because they cannot or simply do not forget. Sure, sometimes they have a message or whatnot, but the fact remains life is not an easy thing to let go of, even after you are physically dead.

Ghosts don't haunt people, they haunt places they were familiar with when they were alive. There's a difference in ghosts and spirits. Spirits are loved ones who tend to visit us from time to time and want or try to help us through difficult periods in life. Ghosts are energies that don't know they're dead and that's why they tend to haunt places they were once living in and/or around.
