It's called degeneration, Saru. I weep, I really do.
Someone can dump crap on a discussion board all day and in the end is actually
proud enough of this "accomplishment" to start
yet another thread of verbal diarreah.
Where did it go wrong?

Phantom, as per, has dinged the nail on the head. The number of new members in recent days who have a fuzzy concept of the difference between a forum and a chat room is astonishing. I garauntee that if you put three of them, mentioning no names but uranium101 and UnsecureMistress would be a good pair to start with, if uou put three of them on a thread by themselves for 20 minutes, the thread would run to 10 pages and be be composed entirely of one word answers, smilies and question marks.
In fact, SaRuMaN should set up some clever little rule that means each post is automatically checked and if your post and if it's x times shorter than your signature, it's automatically deleted. We could call it TJNM's law.

I think it's amazing that I joined not too long ago and already over 1000 new members have joined after me. Yet the site was around a while before I joined....so, where are they all coming from? By the way Aslan, What is your favorite cheese?

This is not a problem unique to this forum by any means, the site's traffic base has grown exponentially over the past month, we are on the brink of 1 million page views per month.
With forum traffic, you inevitably get people who post in this way, it's not something that can be avoided or prevented. Fortunately the number of individuals involved is quite small, 99% of people who post here do so in a perfectly acceptable manner.
I have deleted hundreds of nonsensical posts ( from this same small group ), over the last couple of weeks, and I'm not happy about it either. I think it may be necessary to make use of the forum 'warning' system, and to better emphasise what is and is not acceptable posting. I'm also considering recruiting additional moderators to help keep an eye on things.
I'm as fed up as everyone else is of viewing a topic about Mars to find the next installment of Uranium101's 'Pete the smiley' saga. I think it's time to lay a few ground rules before this all gets way out of hand.

Well i suppose it does have some relevance to this forum, It's an Unexplained Mystery why anyone really would want to start a thread like this.

Actually I think it is called "Get a Life" or "Get Back to Work."
Depends on where you are.

youre the greatest, Al. you are the master of posters. i remember many a day seeing dozens of great on topic posts coming out of you. you've truly earned your position

that being said, i am ready. give me the iron fist and it shall fall on these smiley faced punks! how dare you ruin our forum? (suddenly feels old and runs to hide)
more rules! yes. i want more rules! let us punish these infidels. i will draft the commandments:
1) you may have strange Gods but you cannot argue about them angrily in Metaphysics, Astrology, and Psychic Phenomenon.
2) thou shalt not take Saruman's name in vain.
3) remember the Sunday chat time.
4) honor thy news posters and moderators.
5) thou shalt not kill a thread with useless talk about cheese or dozens of smilies.
6) thou shalt not have cyber sex on a thread.
7) thou shalt not hijack a useful thread with idiotic nonsense.
8 thou shalt not insult or gossip about anyone on the forum (unless its Kimm)
9) thou shalt not covet neen, SpaceyKC, Kismit, Connecian, Starlyte, Nancy, Racerette, Djdodo, Reese, Halo, UnpopularLola, Celticwitch, Tioria, Anirbas, EminemsGURL or any of the other sexy forum ladies that my pathetic aging mind may have missed as they all belong to Bizarro. well, except for emmy, who is quite sexy, but belongs to Althalus.
10) thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's post count.

Dust19 runs away from "Rogues Gallery" (sodam) and "Forum Members Having Sex" (gamorrah) without looking back as to avoid being turned into a pillar of salt
