w00t.gif Hello to all you lovely people from me here in Monmouth Uk

I had a book some years ago that reported about an unusual haunting.

People in 18thC London were taken aback by a very large demon that sped the streets in the night. The account given by witnesses went something like this:

"Ooer, it was orrible, big n red, very fast and it had eaten people as we could see them inside it." "It has wheels and was the color of the devil himself"

Now, putting all the discriptions together of its size, color and everything else the book went on to say that we know the demon today as being a red London bus.
Now being me, I sold the blooming book at a bootsale it was a hard back book quite big in size and I think it had a black cover...but I cant remember what it was called. It was one of 3 books in a series, another was called ufo's and the other again escapes me. Does anyone else have any information on this London bus event?

Hi jillh10 found this for you dont no if it any good.

The Ghost Bus of Ladbroke Grove

In the 1930's a large red London Bus bearing the number '7' terrorised motorists in the North Kensington area of London .

The dangerous junction of St Mark's Road and Cambridge Gardens had been the scene of a number of accidents. The local authority took the decision to straighten the bend which was partially influenced by a number of testimonials from late night motorists. Many had claimed to have crashed in an attempt to avoid an oncoming speeding bus in the small hours of the morning, long after the normal bus service had ceased for the night.

In one fatal accident a driver swerved head on into a wall killing him instantly. A witness blamed a mystery bus for hurtling dangerously down the road just before the car span off the road.

Whilst the coroner was fairly cynical towards the story, the local paper was flooded with similar tales from residents within the area, who had also witnessed a big red bus careering around this junction.

A local transport official also claimed he had seen a vehicle in the local bus depot in the wee hours of the morning, stand chugging for a moment before simply vanishing.

Eventually the road was straightened and reports of the ghostly bus subsided.
